[Question] My friend got quietly screwed over on his 1BR lease. So I built this.

A friend of mine signed a 1BR and thought he got a fair deal. Then his neighbor casually mentions they signed the same place, same layout, for a few hundred less and got a free month on top. He only found out because they happened to talk about it.

We kept coming back to the same thing. Theres nowhere to just see what people around you are actually paying. Not the listing price. What they actually signed for, what concessions they got, what broker fees they paid.

So I built a map for it. Anonymous, no account. Just drop a pin with what you pay and see how you compare.

Best places to live in LA proper if I (29M) am starting new job in Woodland Hills?

29 year old single male moving to Los Angeles from the Midwest for a new job (salary >500k) that will be based out of Woodland Hills. ~4 days per week on site in Woodland Hills.

Trying to minimize total commute time but open to a 1 hour drive to work depending.

I don't want to live in the Valley and would much rather live in LA proper. Really seeking an area full of young professionals, ideally, or just a fun, walkable place to live. Any ideas or suggestions on neighborhoods to check out?

Thank you so much!

Pros and cons of living in LA?

I’ve been looking at apartments in LA and it feels like one of those cities where everything looks great on the surface but your actual experience depends a lot on the building and neighborhood you end up in. The weather and lifestyle are obviously huge draws, and I like how each area has its own vibe depending on what you’re looking for, but I’m wondering how much of the rent is just inflated because it’s LA and how often people end up dealing with noise, maintenance issues or bad management after moving in. I’ve toured a few spots that seemed solid at first, but I’m a bit cautious about signing without digging deeper, so I’ve been checking complaint history and even ran an address through streetsmart just to get a better sense of past issues, which definitely changed how I look at listings.

For those who’ve lived there, would you move back, and are there certain neighborhoods where the day to day quality of life is noticeably better?

ISO: Room in Beverly Grove, Pico Robertson, Culver City, Palms, Mid-City

Hi All,

I’m 25M looking for a comfortable living situation in West LA. I’d be moving from Whittier for a position within my career field (PR). The timeline might be a little fast depending on when I get the offer. Ideally move in by May 5th-10th (will pay full first months rent). I’d work remote 2 days a week but would be in office the other 3. I’m pretty laid back. From Ohio and moved here awhile ago. Have lots of friends in the city. I’m gay so looking for LGBTQ friendly. Have tried a bunch of websites and apps but am not seeing much that I like. Open to messages and if you require roommate interviews I’m down to FT if I can’t make it to the West LA area because of work! Inquire if you have any other questions!

Thanks!!

Prime 1 Bed 1 Bath in Silverlake ($2995/month)

My neighbors are moving out of their unit so I figured I'd share the listing here! Amazing location and a really tightknit group of friendly neighbors who are also young professionals (20s-40s). Really safe area, walking distance from the Silver Lake Reservoir, right off of Sunset Blvd, and up to date appliances.

Edit: y'all, I know. I will say, the apartments are renovated and nice as hell, really well laid out for the small square footage. I'm from NYC so I'm well and truly used to this, but it's OF COURSE wild and I'm not defending it for nuts. I only wanted to get a listing out there incase anyone needs a place and is comfortable with the rent (egregious though it may be). But it's why I'm involved with YIMBY Los Angeles, a local advocacy group dedicated to building more housing and reducing housing costs. If anyone is interested in that advocacy, check us out: https://yimby.la/

[Wanted] - LA Apartment Recommendations

Hello Friends!

For personal reasons, I need to move to this area within the red shape. I recognize this is a large swath of LA and I was hoping for some recommendations on apartment buildings.

I've lived all over town, but my favorite parts are the South Bay, Melrose, and Mid City.

A bit about me: I'm 37F, live alone, and work remotely. I work east coast hours (5 am to 1pm) and can be mobile during work hours, so traffic isn't a major concern.

My requirements for an apartment are:

- Priced around $2600 with ~$200 wiggle room

- 1+ bed, 1+ bath

- In-unit washer/dryer (and not the combo machine)

- Off-street parking

- Air Conditioning

- 700+ sq. ft.

- Looking to move mid-June

Nice to have:

- Top most floor, if in a building

- Balcony or patio

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
