Why is there often not one clear “best” European alternative?
One thing I struggle with when looking for European alternatives to American products or services is that there rarely seems to be one clear, widely accepted option.
For almost every category: email providers, search engines, cloud storage, smartphones, social media, payment services, etc. people recommend 5–10 different companies. Everyone has their own favorite, and the recommendations are often very fragmented.
That makes it harder for me as a consumer. With some American products, there’s often one dominant or “default” recommendation people immediately think of. But with European alternatives, it sometimes feels like the market is too divided for any single option to really stand out.
Do others here feel the same way?
And do you think this fragmentation is a weakness, or actually a good thing because it creates more competition and diversity?
