“psychiatric” service dogs

“psychiatric” service dogs

i don’t really understand psychiatric service dogs, and i say this as someone who would qualify for one of these dogs. a lot of the tasks i see for autism/anxiety/ptsd/etc are just DPT, “blocking,” or crowd control. all of these seem like things that can be accomplished very easily without a dog (weighted blanket and therapy.) getting a dog to circle around you or stand between you and a stranger in line won’t get people to leave you alone, especially if you’re slapping a bunch of excessive, colorful gear on it. i also see the most owner trained/off breeds being used for this work. it just seems like a really complicated and expensive solution to a problem that has a BUNCH of other fixes. i feel similarly about POTS or diabetes service dogs because there are SO many technological advancements made recently that eliminate the need for a service dog for these disabilities. i feel like a majority of the fakers i see use psychiatric service dogs in place of therapy or meds and i just don’t see how they’re at all helpful?

mom left me alone for 30 minutes today. am i entitled to financial compensation?

hi okay so my life is very hard and this is probably the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. it’s harrowing even recounting this.

after our walk today mom said she felt “tired” and went to take a bath. first of all, i think she might be mentally ill because she willingly put herself in the bath tub. second of all, she SHUT THE BATHROOM DOOR. she shut the door and didn’t let me come in and stare at her for 30 minutes like a creepy haunted doll. i am thoroughly traumatized by this situation.

obviously mom knows that i need to be staring at her 24/7 or there’s a problem. that’s why she pees with the door open, so i can stare at her. obviously i let her know about her mistake of shutting the bathroom door by screaming and clawing at the door for 30 minutes. but she just ignored me and told me to “be quiet” and “go play with my toys.” preposterous. how will she know that i disapprove of her if im being quiet? so of course i screamed until she came out of the bath.

but get this, she didn’t pet me after she got out. she just started doing laundry. are you kidding me? it’s like she was ignoring me on purpose to teach me a lesson! i of course continued my screaming until she sat down on the couch and snuggled me.

obviously this was a deeply traumatizing situation and the worst thing that’s ever happened to anyone. am i entitled to financial compensation? i feel like i should get a lot of treats in order to cope with this. pls inform.

why do people ride e-bikes fast as fuck down the schuykill trail and weave through walkers or joggers? the trail is meant for exercise and it’s not an effective way to get from point a to point b. i’ll be walking my dog and some asshole blaring loud music on an ebike whips past us going 30 miles an hour and doesn’t warn anyone. it’s so dangerous and one of these days someone is gonna get hurt. why is this even allowed?

zoloft and i stumbled upon this gorgeous park during our walk today! she was a very good girl and had fun enjoying the nature and getting pets from a group of old ladies

zoloft went to the vet yesterday! she is “exceptionally healthy.” she was so brave and such a good girl. the vet really got a kick out of her name! good zoloft :) she had to have some face pets to recuperate after

zoloft LOVES the lawn chairs and will sit there and refuse to move until i sit on one and she gets to lay down in front of me.

hi all! zoloft is a very good girl and very smart, but she is still learning not to pull on the leash, which is a hard lesson to learn in a busy city environment if you’re a puppy with a short attention span. i don’t want to keep walking her with the flat collar and lead because she pulls even with treats and reinforcement (yes we are working on her leash manners but it’s a hard lesson for her) and i don’t want her to damage her neck while we’re training her. i’ve heard front clip harnesses can stifle their natural movement and aren’t great for puppies, and i know poodles are hard to fit for gear because of their long necks and narrow chest. does anyone have a recommendation for a harness i can use while i’m leash training her? preferably something on the cheaper side since she’s a pup and will eventually grow out of it. the end goal is to be able to walk with the flat collar, but i don’t want her hurting herself because she really wants to wander into the street.

i’m not a fan of slip leads because it can hurt their trachea and it feels cruel. same with e-collars and prongs, and i’m not a fan of the mechanics of the head harness. i just need something that’s relatively affordable, good for a growing puppy body, and won’t hurt her even if she does pull. thanks!
