Our local Pileated back at work on the old maple stump
Just so amazing the way he works! I can sit here and watch him all day long.

Red-headed woodpecker in my backyard in Middleton, WI! Are they uncommon in this area? I’ve never seen one before. It’s beautiful!
A little blurry my iPhone has a had time focusing on two different things, but here it is regardless
I'm new to this community. Not an avid birder, but care about birds. I have your average home feeder with seed (general wild variety with black sunflower) and general store bought suet. Woodpeckers tend towards the latter. I just looked out the window and saw this poor dead fellow. I wanted to share as I know birds are on decline. I see no rough trauma, and it was found about 6 feet from the feeder, away from any windows (we have reflective decals). It was unusually cool today (mid 40s- 50 F). I buried it as I do when I find deceased critters. Thoughts?

2 Pileated on the same tree.. sorry its not the best picture, only had my phone. Cool to see though!
Usually downy comes. But birdfy said this one was red bellied.
He had a go at the suet, and turned around to stare down the cat before he left, which is how I got this shot 😅
Hello everyone, I have an emergency.
Last night, someone gave me some very small woodpecker chicks. They had spent the entire day in a truck because the people who had them didn't know what to do with them, and they told me last night that they had them there. They said they found them on the ground after cutting down a tree.
I have pet chicks, and I bought mealworms to give them as a treat. I've been feeding them the headless ones with powdered calcium.
If you're wondering why I haven't taken them to a vet, I'm from Venezuela, and there are two reasons:
I don't have the money to pay for an exotic animal vet.
Here, the most exotic animals most vets treat are cats.
My options were to adopt them or let them die. I hope you understand.
Now my question is, what can I feed them? From what I understand, mealworms are very oily, and it's not good to feed them only that.
I asked at several agricultural supply stores if they had food for them, and they said no and that they didn't know what I could give them.
I read somewhere that giving them wet cat food might also work.
I need advice because I really don't want them to die.

This is Tingting 🥰 For a few years now he's the first guy to arrive and he loves to drum off this beam to make the loudest and mightiest of noises!! None of the others have arrived yet, but he's eager to practice, slowly getting louder and finding his rhythm 😆 The fiesty ego on these guys is amazing, even Mrs Pileated hesitated and waited for him to leave before going to the suet (tingling likes the jelly feeder which is not to far from one of the suet feeders)
So excited to have gotten to watch this guy for several minutes. Love Pileated woodpeckers ❤️
