Turo guest completely trashed out my dads car.
This is the worst I've seen from a guest.

This is the worst I've seen from a guest.
I have a 2023 AMG GT63S that’s my weekend car. I put less than 3000 miles on it last year. figured I put it on Turo and see what happened. i put it for pretty high hoping to deter the knuckle heads at $395 per day. it’s has already been rented twice. first person who rented it was supposed to be a 65 year old GMA but she came with her daughter to pick the car up. in 3 days 2 of my wheels were severely curbed and brought the car back totally smelling like weed. I mean I took a week and half to get the weed smell out. I could tell the car was driven pretty hard and by a lot of young ppl.
then someone else rents it for 4 days for the weekend an actually popular celebrity from one of these house wives shows. and he brings it back and clearly I think a whole bottle of soda or something spilled and the car was so sticky. between fixing my wheel curbs and getting the car properly detailed dunno if the is is worth it long term. I don’t want my car run to the ground.
should I keep renting it out? my goal was just to make maybe $500 a month with like 3/400 miles of usage just for play money. but seems like ppl who rent these cars don’t take care of it at all.

During the drive I took the car on some nice roads at a very moderate pace, nothing reckless or even bordering it. I rented an M3 for this purpose instead of a point A to B car. Anyway, during the drive the host messages me a number of times saying he forwarded the tracking information to Turo. Ok whatever, I drop off the car 30 minutes early to the airport in the exact same gargage on the same floor. I take 50 drop-off photos, the car is in the exact same condition I pick it up in.
A few hours later, I check the invoice and notice an additional 50 dollar improper return fee. I call Turo, they aren't sure what that's about and reverse it. A few hours later I get a notice about a damage claim. The host is claiming a nail in the front driver tire. That'd odd, when I dropped off the car there was no TPMS light and all tires were inflated fully, my drop-off photos show this.
The host uploads a blurry photo with what appears to be a nail about 1/3 from the edge of the tire and claims its a sidewall nail and needs a new tire. I dispute the claim since my photos show a fully inflated tire and no TPMS light. The host also hits me with another 50 dollar improper return fee. This time I call Turo and they say they will stop the host from claiming this as the GPS data shows I dropped off the car appropriately. The host does not respond to my messages questioning the 50 dollar fee.
I dispute the damage claim and lose. When I call Turo I have to wait to get a call back from a supervisor. When I finally do they say the reviewers did not look at my photos. Supposedly I have a good chance since my photos show a fully inflated tire and no TPMS light. Well they re-review the case and the reviewers apparently again side with the host. They claim the nail probably closed a slow leak and didn't show up until hours after I dropped off the car. It is impossible to actually speak to anyone on the team that reviewed the damage claim, which is frustrating.
If it's a slow leak that didn't show up, how can they prove it happened while I had the car? Of course I didn't take any photos of each tire's tread when I dropped of the car, but neither did the host when they dropped off the car. It is certainly possible the nail happened while I had the car, it's also possible it happened a week before I picked up the car. It's impossible to know, that nail could have been in there for weeks.
Turo says without any proof that the nail did not happen under my time, they will continue to support his claim. Why is the burden of proof on me? Why isn't the owner required to have the same burden of proof? This is the same host who already tried to fraudulently charge me 50 dollars twice and Turo agreed they were fraudulent and reversed them. Who is to say he didn't let some air out of the tire, push a superficial nail 1mm into the tire, take a picture, and profit 400 dollars? Normally I'd say that's ridiculous but that pattern already exists here. He already proudly told me he collected over 11,000 dollars worth of damage on this car and had 6 drivers banned. This is so frustrating.
Any logical person would just pay 30 dollars to plug the tire. Instead he found a way to profit an extra 400 dollars on this 700 dollar rental already. He didn't provide a receipt, he just showed a screenshot of what a new tire would cost from tire rack.com. I doubt he got a new tire, he probably just plugged it (if it's even real), and gets an extra 400 for me.
Turo is really disssapointing. I can't get a hold of anyone without a significant language barrier. It's obviously just scripted customer service with no real possible neutral person looking at this entire file. The claims department says they can't take into consideration the other fraudulent charges because claims is separate from regular customer service.
This is all so frustrating. I'm done with Turo, they got me for an extra 400 dollars. My other experiences have been great but when there's no real means for an actual review of these claims the renter is just completely disadvantaged.
I hope it was worth it Limitless Rentals and the owner (I won't publicize his name). I reported your Montana plated car which has evidence of exclusively being used in California since 2024 to the state of California DMV. Turns out you can't evade taxes for a car personal or commercial exclusively used in California. You chose the wrong person to scam.
I’ve never used Turo but I have friends that have and they say good things about it. However, what I don’t understand is why owners of some very nice high-end cars allow strangers to take them. It seems, to me at least, that the downside is much greater than the money earned. Why would I rent my $100k+ vehicle to a stranger?
Hello - I've posted here a few times but am looking for some insight here.
I rented a car on Turo for Coachella, I quite literally did not use the car. Drove from Palm Springs to Indio and back, that was it. Otherwise the car was parked the entire time. No engine issues, no mechanical issues, no oil issues, no running issues. We dropped the car off at 10am with zero issues whatsoever, left the car and hopped on my flight home. I landed and immediately got off the flight to a Turo claim that the damage said the car was undriveable and there was a huge oil leak. (The host picked up the car at dark so not sure when it was retrieved) The car has had numerous claims that there was oil leaking from the car. Turo is asking me to provide additional evidence, but I have NO way of proving that the car was NOT leaking oil at the time? What are my options here, I'm about to be charged out the ass for a repair for damage that I didn't cause nor was even aware of.
Made a reservation last week for a car in Kona, HI. The pickup & return location on the Turo website specifically said "on-site at KOA". When I landed at KOA, I find out the pickup spot is about 12 miles away. So I paid $50 for the Uber ride just to pick up the car. If I change the return drop-off location to KOA, that'll cost me another $60.
After an hour on the phone with Turo customer support, it turns out I'm the one with the problem. I'm the one who should have known that no matter the default settings on the website, the actual pickup & drop-off locations can be elsewhere. In other words, even though the website said "on-site at KOA", the pickup was no where near KOA. No offer from the customer support manager to compensate for the misleading info.
Note: the agent admitted this isn't the first time this issue has happened.
Had a trip from SFO which was supposed to end this morning at 11-am. It is now 4 pm and they left the car at the San Diego airport. They also went over the mileage and used a lot of on-trip charging which I am going to request reimbursement for.
Very frustrating and I am fearful they will tow my MachE from wherever they left it. They had told me they were going to extend their trip which they never did. Then they stated the “returned” the car when I can clearly see it is in San Diego.
Gonna have to call Turo after work for vehicle retrieval.
My return time for my turo was 12:30 with a 30 minute grace period. I was returning to the airport, so that takes a little time. I got it in the airport garage at 1:09 and “checked out” on the turo app at 1:17pm. The host charged me $40.00 for returning late. I cleaned and washed the car for him as a courtesy, I returned the car cleaner than it was when I got it. It was so clean he could literally give it to someone else without having to do a single thing to it. I also received the car 30+ minutes late at pick up, because his workers were late dropping the car off, so me and my dog were just in the garage, looking crazy.
Mind you, the oil needed to be changed, the registration sticker was expired, and I had to pay to plug the tire!
I just feel like it was such a slap in the face, and he refuses to reply to my messages or cancel the invoice.
Please note, he is the only person I have rented from on Turo and he praises me on how good his car looks when I return them.
Turo gave me ACV of 38k for my Mercedes glc payoff is 44k I have gap coverage but I was trying to see if I’m able to get more of settlement does anyone know how to
I’m 18 and graduated high school early recently. My GPA was around 3.77. I took a few AP classes, but I’m not some insane top student either. I feel stuck in this weird middle ground where I’m not doing terrible, but I’m also not clearly heading toward some big career path.
Right now I mainly do Turo with 4 cars. It’s still profitable overall and relatively stable after getting fked over years, but the margins honestly aren’t that great anymore. A lot of the cars were bought with borrowed money, and the difference between retail value and quick-sale value is huge, so I can’t really just sell everything off without taking losses.
I also tried flipping cars, but in my area it feels almost impossible to do the “buy low sell high” thing people online talk about unless you already have connections, dealer access, or a lot more money.
I’ve done basic mechanic work, maintenance, detailing, diagnostics, mobile mechanic jobs, and managing Turo guests/cars/logistics. So I’m not completely clueless with cars, but I’m also not some master tech.
The problem is I genuinely don’t know what move makes the most sense long term.
If I get a normal full-time job, managing Turo becomes harder, although I could probably still make it work by changing pickup times and only doing longer trips. Because of that, I’ve been leaning more toward finding part-time work instead.
I interviewed for a full-time sales position at CarMax and didn’t even make it through, which honestly hurt my confidence a little.
I’ve thought about becoming a mechanic apprentice, going to trade school, community college, taking student loans, using Pell Grants since my family is low income, or just grinding random jobs while continuing Turo. I’ve also thought about trying to grow detailing or mobile mechanic work more seriously.
But I honestly don’t know what path has the best future anymore.
One problem is that becoming a mechanic apprentice seems rough financially at first. Low pay, long hours, buying tools, etc. But at the same time, cars are one of the few things I actually have experience with and genuinely enjoy.
Mentally it’s also weird because I see people my age online and real life driving supercars, making huge money, doing crypto, e commerce, content creation, scamming or whatever, while I’m over here stressing over margins on economy rental cars and wondering if I should just go work a normal job.
Is becoming a mechanic still worth it in
It is no longer safe to trust Turo service for women. Hosts are posting fake rentals and canceling while en route, suggesting a much lesser valued option or forcing women to call and cancel.
The first time it happened, the Host reported that the vehicle was in an accident but posted it as available again same day. Turo understood and accommodated.
This second time, the Host canceled again while en route. Initially the car was returned late, I was 10 mins away, but after support canceled he asked me to still come. The Host continued to demand I come to his home because he has a hatchback I could use instead of the SUV for our family. Turo was not accommodating at all. I was stranded with ruined travel plans.
Customer Service could care less this time. The agents resorted to being demeaning, blaming me for poor planning, claiming that they exhausted all support and disconnecting. I’ve stressed that their app is allowing Hosts to endanger women. I‘ve urged them to be more considerate. They don’t care! Their agents are empowered to be nasty and not support people they are inconveniencing and putting in danger.
Women. do not trust Turo!!! The Hosts are not safe.
I’m a Turo host and currently dealing with a weird situation. Trying to understand how responsibility is usually handled in cases like this.
Guest got pulled over during the trip and later told me the car was impounded. He claimed one of the taillights/brake lights was out “from the beginning,” but:
• He never reported it at pickup
• No photos were sent
• No documentation/ticket was provided
• Previous trip had no reported lighting issues
• My check-in photos unfortunately don’t specifically show the light illuminated
I contacted the county/police department myself and got a case number. One officer hinted there “may have been an arrest involved,” but another officer later refused to give any details because I’m “not an involved party,” so now I honestly don’t know what the actual stop/impound reason was until 3-5 business day in future.
The car is currently in impound and release fees/storage are adding up.
My questions:
• If a bulb failed during the trip, is that automatically considered host negligence?
• How does Turo usually handle situations where neither side can fully prove whether the light was already out at handoff?
• Does a possible arrest / unrelated driver issue usually change liability for tow & impound fees?
• Should I retrieve the vehicle ASAP to mitigate storage costs, or wait for official documentation first?
Trying to handle this correctly without accidentally admitting fault for something I can’t actually verify.
I've had 3 guest in the last month that stan̈don't and I hope future guest read this. "We thank you for choosing turo! It is a wonderful platform to get the exact vehicle you want for that special occasion! Please turn app notifications, on if you haven't already, as soon as you make your reservation. This will serve as a single point of communication during your trip. Please be mindful of your chosen protection plan and deductible. This is between you and turo. The host doesn't pick a plan for you and can't really help you after the fact. Unless "unlimited " miles are spelled out in the vehicle description, you will be charged the rate disclosed on your rental agreement, if you go over the allotted miles. If you leave trash, personal items, fire arms etc you can be charges a cleaning fee and the weapon surrendered to law enforcement. If there are damages your protection plan or personal insurance will come in̈to play at that time, minus your deductible. If for some reason (like the 2 gentleman who prompted me to write this post) You decide to keep the vehicle. Drive around the city and blow past the return time. Once your grace period has expires, and you have not made contact with either turo or the host, as stated in terms of service, You will be charged a late fee equal to the daily rate you were charged on your trip. And prevented from renting from the host again by internal metrics".... bumass
Do you guys still do airport delivery? Do you charge or for free?
I’ve been doing free but now they do a minimum charge to deliver to the airport. Even though it’s free parking, I still get charged 15$
Absolutely insane. I’ve now started charging 50$ but I know I’m not gonna get any bookings because of it.
Do you guys still deliver? Do you charge?
I’m absolutely done with this garbage platform.
Is it true that if you have a car with a loan from a bank they will repo it. I heard a lot of rumors about this.
Anyone rent on Turo for a young driver? My very responsible 20-year old (clean driving record, no accidents, no tickets, etc) has an internship starting this month and I'm trying to find a car for her to drive (not in a place where I can trust public transit) --(no, the internship isn't providing jacks*&t for this)-- Turo is giving me grief as far as transparency in fees for this, but it looks like the price triples when I put her age in as primary. Super *&^% frustrating - any advice appreciated
Most of the Turo posts are negative experiences. So I’ll post a positive one.
Last week, rented car, airport pickup. Car was exactly where host said it was. Did the check in. Key was in lockbox. No issue. Car drove perfect. Returned to same spot. Put key back in lockbox. Perfect transaction.
Now granted the host hand hundreds of trips. And seemed like a Turo veteran. Also the car wasn’t a 25 dollar a day beater.
For what it’s worth.
