Thanks all for the advice!

We decided to go for it! We’re only on this rock for a short while! So we pulled the trigger on this Jayco Jay Feather 16RB. We are pumped to get out and enjoy it

6V vs 12V batteries - genuinely lost and my dog's comfort depends on me figuring this out.

Hey y'all, RV owner here, I've been going down a rabbit hole on house batteries and I keep running into this 6V vs 12V debate and honestly it's starting to make my head spin.

Here's my situation: I've got a 65-lb rescue Lab named Max who goes everywhere with me. My biggest worry on dry camping nights is keeping the fan going so he doesn't overheat, he's a panting machine even at 69°F. We're not doing anything crazy, mostly weekends at state parks, maybe some boondocking once I get more comfortable.

From what I've read, two 6V golf cart batteries wired in series are supposed to give you better capacity and longer life than a single 12V but I don't fully understand why, and I don't know if that's actually worth the extra cost and hassle for a rookie just starting out.

Has anyone here made this switch? Was it worth it? And if you camp with pets, would love to know how you're keeping them comfortable off-grid without blowing through your battery in 4 hours. Any advice is appreciated.

New rig

Picked up this 2021 Kodiak back in January after our previous trailer (2006 Pioneer) was written off due to a tree branch falling through the roof. Plan was to sell the old one this spring anyways, so it all really worked out pretty well.

Can't wait for the first trip of the year next weekend!

Future of off grid Travel Trailers

We have a simple set up and live full time in our 18ft nüCamp T@B 400 which we love. On thing we love is that we can run everything we need off grid since our heat, hot water and fridge can run on propane. We don’t use an ice maker, air fryer, coffee maker, hair dryer or CPap. If we ever want to upgrade to a small TT (maybe a walk around bed in our future), several I’ve noticed only have 2-way, not 3-way, fridges and are wired to use an inverter. My thought was always to run things on 12v when needed.

Are there reasons I’m missing that appliances or systems run more efficiently on electric with an inverter or is the industry trending this way due to market demand for TTs that will do more off grid? Are 3 way fridges becoming obsolete?

FYI… we do run our fridge on battery when driving or turn it off completely for short hauls.

All I’m seeing is needing my future rig to generate more electricity. What am I missing?

Thoughts on my jack drill adapter?

I made a drill-powered adapter for my trailer jack because I was sick of hand-cranking it.

It clamps onto the existing handle and adds a hex so you can just use a drill. No wiring or replacing the jack.

Genuinely curious if this solves a problem for anyone else with a similar style jack.
Feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Here’s a clip of it working:

Gas water heater issues

I have a 2018 Jayco 174BH I’ve had this for about five years and never used the water heater. I just do winterize my camper and decided I want to try out the water heater and make sure it worked. I filled it up with water, but I can’t get the gas flowing to the heater and get it lit. Any suggestions on what the problem may be, is there a cut off valve specifically for the water heater?

Finding Parts Help

Hello! Earlier this year I accidentally popped out the handle on the valve for my water heater bypass. On the black plastic handle, there is a small brass part that goes into the valve itself and actuates it. Unfortunately when I tried to reinstall it, I completely shredded the little o-ring that goes around it to seal the valve. Does anyone happen to know the size of that o-ring or know where to find a sort of parts diagram for the valve? Thank you!

The trailer is a 2011 StarCraft AR-One 15RB

Discharged AGM battery , help!

Hi

I'm in the middle of the night, dry camping in Wyoming far away from home and my Renogy 200AH battery went down to 9.9v in my travel trailer.

My setup is 400W of solar with a 30A charger and a 20A DC to DC charger using the truck alternator when towing.

My question:

Is this battery dead forever, can I recharge it and finish my road trip (mid-May) or do I need to replace it ASAP?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Camper towing long haul

Good day!

I currently own a pop up with a mini van, and wife 3 kids and I looking to upgrade to a SUV and hard top style camper.

Looking at a camper 4170 lbs with a slide out. Wondering will a Honda pilot trail sport with a hitch distribution system tow that.

Or am I looking for certain trouble pulling at my max.

Camper plus the people weight already sitting at 4800. I will be slightly over the max towing of 5000lbs for the pilot.

Yay nay?

It can tow more?

Distribution center helps immensely?

We camp 5 ish times a year, this year doing a trip from Winnipeg to GTA and back with the camper. Hence the set up, tear down time and Tetris game that happens every time we stop..

We wanted a more enjoyable relaxing trip.

Your input would be greatly appreciated

Please and thank you.

Bought my first travel trailer

2026 Catalina 164BHX. Bunk house with Dinette.

I’ve always wanted a travel trailer & I’m turning 30 on May 5th so I figured I’d buy one for myself as a gift.

I’m also a single dad with two kids (2.5 and 14 months) so I really wanted something that fits the size of my family. My children love the outdoors and so do I.

I pick it up this Wednesday the 22nd

Super excited :)

Thinking of switching to a LiPo4 battery. Do I really need a DC to DC charger? Pulling with a 2015 Nissan frontier… details below.

First time trailer owner here! This is a New to us 2024 grand river 19BH. (Bought it from a local family dealership so we avoided Camp Mart luckily)

Thinking of switching to LiPo4 battery. But, Do I really need a DC to DC charger???

My power converter is a WFCO 8955 -AD so it should be compatible for auto detection and a simple swap out (unless am I missing something?? ) BUT I’ve read that I may need a DC to DC charger on my truck to protect the alternator/ battery… is this really needed? My Vehicle I’m pulling it with is a 2015 Nissan frontier…. I’ve read mixed opinions on this so I’ll probably get the same here but just curious what some of y’all say?

Help choosing a replacement door latch; looking for something without a master key

I just got a 2019 Jayco Jay Flight SLX, and I want to replace the door latch as well as the storage lock because I read online that there is a master key that can unlock essentially any travel trailer. I'm a bit confused by some of the product listings though; how do I know which brands to trust and which ones to avoid?

For example, I was looking at a latch.it lock and it says 'unique key to the latchit brand' which tells me that you can get a key to unlock any latch.it lock!

I was also looking at the global brand which seems more trustworthy from the description?

I haven't looked at storage locks at all. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
