gothamist.comLocal, entry-level jobs? Are you hiring?
Hi everyone, I’m going on ten months unemployed and struggling to make ends meet and am looking for local part-time or full-time employment. I’ve gone down 4th and 5th Ave and to Industry City with my resume and am struggling to find any spots looking to hire—I don’t speak Spanish or Chinese which has been a barrier for a lot of spots hiring dishwashers or similar roles, understandably. I’ve applied via Craigslist and Indeed to local openings and have heard back from essentially none of them even after following up.
I’ve got a Masters in policy, am an artist, have experience as a barista and a server, am great with people, have experience in childcare, am comfortable in a retail environment or a kitchen. If anyone has word-of-mouth leads, I would be super grateful! I know this job market is insane but I’m willing to do almost anything and am fine with minimum wage. Thanks so much in advance.
What were those loudspeakers overnight?
Overnight I was woken up by some sort of loudspeaker on a vehicle. (I think going down 5th Avenue) at like 2am, 4am, and 6amish.
It was pretty muffled and I couldn’t discern what it was actually saying (it might have even been trilingual), there was no music it was just spoken word.
I know for mosquito spraying there’s sometimes loudspeakers but it’s too early in the season for that, and the city hasn’t posted about that.

Someone broke into my neighbors apartment the other day, through a back window that isn't locked. Please keep an eye out and lock your doors/windows, happened near 8ave subway station around 60st 7 ave, NYPD said this person has been involved in other break-ins around the area.
I see you bro. Thanks for the early morning positivity. I hope this finds all other redditors well.
This is not Iceland. It's Sunset Park. 15 degree weather and freezing but the pics were worth it.
I bring a bunch of records to Sea Witch on the first Friday of evey month. That means I'll be there crankin tunes starting at 9pm on May 1st. Bug out on the fishtank or hide out in the backyard. Should be a good time.
Sea Witch is located at 703 5th Ave btw 21st & 22nd Street.
Do you know who installed the flag here? Can you help me connect with the person? It's for my story about puertorricans in SP.
Thanks!
I was just notified that the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in Sunset Park has just opened sign ups for the season. It's such a great thing, so affordable, pickups are Wednesday nights from early June to mid November at St. Michael's Church on 41st st. Check out these beets I got last year that were as big as my hand! Also, last year I was traveling a bunch and it was super easy to swap with other people if I was out.
Just wanted to drop a rec to Hollywood Cleaners for people seeking alterations. Their tailor worked in suiting back in Hong Kong for 40 years and is an absolute expert. Cheap prices too.
