What is a company like Meta to do when it notices that 10% of it's income comes from advertising scams, illegal gambling & products?
ENCOURAGE IT & RAISE THE PRICES FOR THE CRIMINALS - OF COURSE!
Sadly the good times eventually had to end:
The Consumer Federation of America is going after Meta for it now!
They messaged me out of the blue yesterday, and it's an account made two nearly three months ago, with only a few generic comments, none of which were on any of my own posts. Their art and behavior is very similar to how someone named u/brilliant-show3797 was on someone else's post here (brilliant-show also messaged me which was why I searched their name, but I blocked them.) They also don't seem very good at English.
Somebody just write me down saying he He mistakenly reported my profile as a scam, he give me a discord user to add and talk to don't get my user delete or ban. I didn't trust for obvious reasons. Then I say to them "no hablo inglés" and they blocked me
I left the profile to you be careful

Hi, this is one of the strangest situations I’ve encountered, and to me it screams scam, but my roommate seems content with it.
(We’re college roommates)
She told me last night about how a guy randomly added her on Snapchat from QuickAdd. She said hey to him and they started talking a little, shortly after introductions he started explaining stuff that he does and his background. He said he owns a big company, his wife died, he has one kid, and he has a lot of money that he doesn’t really know what to do with. He said he started helping random college kids with paying bills and setting up a $300 weekly allowance for them. He sent her screenshots of transactions for all these kids he was apparently sending money to. He asked if she wanted to be apart of it. She agreed and he asked for her email, she gave it to him and he sent her a check for $700. She put it into her bank and the money actually went through. She told me she looked him up and he seemed legit, and that the company the check came from was legit.
Today she texted me saying he was acting a bit weird. She said he texted her while she was at work, this is what she said in our groupchat:
- “He text me this morning, and then was like show me that you have the money. I’m like I’m working give me 10 mins. Once I’m done doing what I’m doing I will. Then got like mad saying it shouldn’t take that long and blah blah.”
- “And I also don’t even have the money in my account yet so”
- “I said I got email saying like my account is on hold with the check and what not”
- “Then he’s like well take a picture of the email from your laptop or iPad. Like bruh once I’m at work 😭”
She said the only piece of information she’s given him is an email address. That he doesn’t ask for anything in return, nothing sexual or weird. Regardless, the situation is getting sorta scary. I’m not sure what she should do, I don’t think she should’ve accepted the check in the first place.
I’m a web developer with years of experience, but I almost let my guard down with this one because it started through my own website's contact form. I wanted to share this here so others don't fall for it.
A "client" named Nacho Perez reached out via my contact form asking for a website for a new Spanish restaurant in Houston called "Levante Restaurant and Bar" opening in June.
After I replied to the initial inquiry, I got a long email with the following classic scam markers:
I think, how the scam works. If I had proceeded, they would have sent a fraudulent check for more than the agreed amount, like $15,000. They would then ask me to "do them a favor" and wire $5,000 of that to their "consultant" for the logo/assets. The original check would eventually bounce, leaving me responsible for the $5,000 sent out of my own pocket.
As a dev for years, this is the most low-effort attempt I've seen. If you're going to try to social engineer a professional, maybe don't use a 'private project consultant' as a middleman for a logo that probably costs $50 on Fiverr 0/10 for creativity. DO NOT USE AI on your script
Stay sharp, everyone!
Not the only one* (🙃😐😑)
I saw someone else in the reddit group also got one but for different city. But they’re not changing any of the information other than the region and what number they text from.
That scammer number is 917-352-9269
Which is an Oklahoma number.
And Los Angeles Traffic Court site is already warning about this as well.
Been getting this same message multiple times a day for the past few weeks. What kind of scam is this?
not sure if i’m allowed to post the number that sent it to me but i thought it was interesting. few things i noticed:
- court date is for tomorrow?
- i’m supposed to be in Missouri for court when this is supposed to be an Alabama offense?
- there’s no St. Louis county in Alabama
- the state codes don’t exist
definitely won’t be responding or doing anything with this, just wanted to put it out there for others to see. if someone’s brave enough to check out the QR code, let me know what it goes to.
Got this lovely email into my spam.. from this email support-secretmember09791642@… which I think is obviously fake. They said all sorts from hacking my device, social media etc and that they wanted money in the form of bitcoin.
I’m right in this is a scam right? 🤣
Sometimes old AC customers of my dad’s turn up, but aside from that, I probably met a random person at a kink event, so I threw it out there. The airplane comment was bizarre enough that I twigged and got a recipe out of the deal.
I don't know if is this counts as phishing, but I'm not sure who else to ask. I don't think it’s serious.
I'm a content creator and I used royalty-free music in my videos, but I haven't for a while. They don't list the song, the video, the platform, or their name. “Sincerely, Music Producer…” get serious. I'm just wondering if anyone recognizes the email address or can show me how I can look it up.
I got a call recently from a supposed collection agency called "gotonotice" that claimed I had nearly $1300 in overdue medical bills dating from 2023 all the way to 2025. Asking my primary hospital I go to, they said there was nothing on my account overdue, and checking the emergency room I visited last year, they said the only fee they could find on my account lined up with 2025. The supposed collection agency did have a bunch of information that seemed to line up with a legit place like my full legal name, the last 3 of my ssn, and my current city, but looking around online I can't find anything with the domain name, but there was two direct links to websites along the names of "creditors bureau usa" with sketchy looking websites. Has anyone actually heard of these? Is there some actual legit website/number I can use to ask?
My childhood friend got caught up in a “romantic” relationship with Giles Jones, hes on tik tok and instagram. He posts lots of “romantic” and “relationship” topics. She won’t tell me if she has or has not met him in person, completely dodging that question.
She swears he’s real. She swears they are getting married. Says he got her a ring and that’s proof he’s real. She claims she has a lawyer because she was guarded at first since she met him online. They have been talking for quite some time, and she says she will be moving to California with him, and that she will send me the wedding invitation.
When we first rekindled last month after roughly around 15-18 years of our paths going different directions, she mentioned him to me, all excited, and when I tried researching him, I noticed one comment from a woman on one of his pages saying “stay away from Giles, he and his group trafficks women, they disappear”, but I no longer can find that comment, the other thought tho is how common is trafficking a 40 something year old? Probably not. But scamming, sure probably.
Anyways, she won’t hear me out. She truly believes he’s real and that they are in love.
Did not know if anyone else had any dirt on this man? Or group? Or whatever it is? I can’t find anything on him, if I had some sort of proof I feel like I could convince her.
Very concerned for her. She claims he is tired of doing this influencer stuff and wants to quit.
