Dropped camera and lens in water. What can I do?

I have a Canon 70D with a Canon EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens attached. I dropped it in water and it was fully submerged. I have it currently in a sealed bag with silica packs inside and the battery was removed immediately from the camera.

While I’d like my camera to be good, my main concern is the lens. I can see water spots on the inside of it. My first call to a local service centre was unhelpful as the guy said to throw it out. I contacted canon but they say their cleaning service won’t help either.

I guess this is a long shot because it seems like my lens is pooched, but this my last ditch effort to see if there are any recommendations for salvaging this expensive lens (and maybe the camera body, though the plan was to upgrade by the end of this year any way). I would really prefer to keep this lens and get it fixed, but I understand that it is a long shot and unlikely (glimmer of hope is keeping me sane).

Otherwise, if I have to replace things, what are the recommended lenses that are similar to this lens? I was looking at upgrading to the R5 Mark II camera and I’m into wildlife photography and birding.

I’m in Ontario, Canada.

My sewing machine cracked during shipping, can I save it?

So the only part damaged is the plastic part, and it clicks partly in place but there is a piece that sticks up and doesn’t want to click in place. What should I do? I really want to save it😢

Bad unit?

Hi, i just recently bought a Sony SLV-N51 HIFI VCR on ebay. After getting it, i saw that the whole plastic enclosure was probably heat affected at some point, looks like someone left it on a damn stove or cranked up a hair dryer to 11 and went to town. After cleaning the audio head and video heads on the drum, it plays a tape alright, but quickly drops the video after going to static, all the while the audio is very quiet, and behind a wall of whistling static noise. I want to know what could have caused this, common sense would say something bad happened relating to heat, and messed up the components, like capacitors or something. Im a newb when it comes to electronics repair, but i know a few things and could handle something like soldering new components on a board. I just want to know what could cause this. Also its not a tracking issue i dont believe, tracking buttons dont do anything really and for most of the tape it tracks fine and the picture is as clear as its gonna get. Also its not just the tapes, ive tried 5 different movies, pre-recorded ones. Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

So this just happened..

Been using my Tozo Openbuds for nearly 2 years now and they have been nothing but reliable. I had terrible comfort issues with in ears or headphones that clamped too hard. These solved all those problems and I love them.

Today randomly I noticed this crack while taking them off. The earphones are working fine so I want to fix this but I am concerned about what glue I can use.

If the glue seeps out and makes the plastic rough then it will make my ear itchy which in turn will make this unusable.

Any solutions?? Tips on how I can repair this thing?

I broke it. Can it be fixed?

My boyfriend gave me a Canon EOS 7 as a present for birthing our daughter. It was such a lovely sentiment as he went through a lot of trouble to get it, as he already had tried getting me a different camera that didn’t work and had to send it back and and it had been an endless back and forth, but he’d been searching around and doing research to find me a fun camera and ended up getting this one all the way from Japan. I was so excited cause it kept getting dragged out and was itching to shoot some film and having days out together taking pictures.
I wanted it to be a camera I could have in my bag to grab to take photos when out and about, and so I had it in my bag - first day out. Coming home, taking our daughter out the car and swing her up on my hip while grabbing the bag with my other hand and swing that over my shoulder. It was open. I see my camera in slow motion fling out of the bag like I was going for a hammer throw medal and watch it bounce off the cement floor. At least it missed the puddle. I literally felt sick to my stomach and probably would have been happier to crash the car. I’m heartbroken.
The only visible damage is the clip part that holds the camera back, but there obviously might be more internal damage - it had surprisingly little damage on the outside - but I really want to see if this can be fixed somehow and work from there
We live in a country where there isn’t really any places servicing analog cameras so there’s nowhere I can take it in to be looked at.

Should rebuilt motor spin freely?

TL;DR should an unpowered motor with brushed removed spin completely freely?

I'm repairing a DW735 planer. I ordered an aftermarket motor, which arrived damaged in transit--the rotor had been pushed forward and broke the cast aluminum housing cap. So I took the housing from my dead motor and put it on the new motor. When I spin it by hand, with brushes removed, I can feel little bits of resistance. It feels like maybe the armature is slightly contacting the field as it spins. I don't feel this resistance when I hold the rotor by the bearings and spin, so I don't think it's the bearings.

Is this a problem? If so, can I fix it?

Thanks!

Fix student headphones

A bunch of the headphones I have in my classroom have broken in the same way. The sound still works on all of them but the ears are hanging down because of a small piece of plastic breaking off. I’ve included photos of that broken sides and unbroken sides. Any ideas how to fix these??

Super glue dissolving

A person tried to fix the crack on my WH-1000XM5 with super glue. The crack was small, but I don’t know how much glue they poured into it. How can I dissolve the glue without breaking the hinge, damaging the plastic or electrical parts, and restore the movement? Right now, it’s stuck facing sideways.

Repair Help

Hello, I have some rotted wood on the interior of this window. Is there anything I can do to replace this wood and seal so this doesn't happen in the future.

Edit: thank you for the help everyone! I went to the outside of the window and noticed there isn't any sealant/gasket on this bottom part. Is there a way to seal this to prevent water intrusion? Added pictures

How do you guys fix think pads

So, I’m hoping someone here can help me out with a bit of a "dumpster dive" mystery. I recently salvaged a ThinkPad that I found sitting in a bin, and while the exterior looks surprisingly decent, I can’t get it to show any signs of life. I’ve tried the basics—plugging it into a known working charger and holding down the power button—but there are no status lights, fan whirring, or keyboard backlighting appearing at all. I’m wondering if these models have a specific "emergency reset" hole on the bottom or if it’s more likely a dead CMOS battery or a fried motherboard given where it ended up. Has anyone else rescued a dead unit like this, and are there any specific internal components I should check first before I call it a lost cause?

A bit of fungus and haze has appeared (not very noticeable in the photos , but I promise it’s there) on my lens and was wondering if anyone had a good guide or tutorial on how to disassemble and clean it. I’ve checked on YouTube and tried to find a manual, but so far haven’t found anything that is thorough and clear enough to inspire confidence. I was told the first step is to unscrew the front element by hand counter clockwise. I tried it, it was too tight. Am I meant to unscrew any of the small screws first? Or has it been tightened overtime and I must oil it first? Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I cannot afford a CLA at the moment, especially for a Leica lens. It is a beautiful lens , I would love to save it.

I need all the help I can get. I broke my boyfriend’s parents’ $300 vacuum and want to get it repaired ASAP. I’ve heard that Sharks are extremely hard to get repairs on.

I pulled it out of the wall by the wire, and the wire broke off like butter. I call a vacuum repair guy near me and he said “Is it the plug or the wire?” I said it was the wire. He said “We don’t do Sharks. No one really does.”. And then I called a second place that is a super inconvenient drive. The guy goes “We do some Sharks. Bring it in and we’ll see if we can do it.” So now I’m supposed to take this drive to see if maybe they can fix it? I have an extremely busy day tomorrow and this is stressing me out so much.

I don’t want to call and electrician that I don’t know and bring them to my boyfriend’s parents’ house. I also don’t know what model is since I am not very handy. I’ve included some photos that I’m not really sure are of much help.

Then, ChatGpt told me that this was just a plug repair? Even though the wire broke off a few inches BEFORE the plug meets the wire. So maybe I can call the first guy back and say I just need a plug replacement? But seems weird to me since it’s still by the wire. The rest of the cord is still in tact aside from the few inches that broke off with the plug, as pictured. If you look closely, it detached very cleanly. It almost looks as though the piece with the plug attached to it was tucked inside of the rest of the wire that broke off.

Again, I’m not handy. Can someone tell me what needs to be repaired? What to say? And potentially where to go that will 100% get this fixed so I don’t have to run around as much? I would greatly appreciate it.

I stupidly left a used car battery on the back seats of my car. It stained and caused the top layer to tear a bit. How much is this looking to cost me? I’m planning on selling my car and wondering if it’s worth fixing before selling to Carmax or possibly a private seller.
