Just bought this guy without realizing the root situation

I just got this (I thought the pot was kinda cool) but didn’t realize it was so moist and its roots weren’t looking so hot. I know I gotta get him some drainage. But should I just move it to a bigger pot with drainage and add some soil? Or do I need to do something with the roots first? Thanks, I’m new to this

Pothos refuses to grow

I bought 2 pothos plants in December. Same seller, plant, soil. One is thriving and the other is just… meh. Not dying basically. I water both of them every 2-3 weeks or when I remember to. They get plenty of light. The one refusing to do anything had one stem broken so I cut it and put in water and now is somewhat happy in soil. I’m not sure what to do about it since I treat both plants the exactly same way and they get exactly same amount of light (I even switched the spots between themselves and it did nothing). I fertilised it twice at 4 weeks intervals. The leaves that seem like they’re by themselves in the soil are actually connected to the stems.

Picture 1,2,3 -> problematic pothos

Picture 4,5 -> thriving pothos

Picture 6 -> child of problematic pothos. Spent December and January in water. Put it in soil in March

Got 50% off at Lowe’s

Tag says assorted. I thought Marble Queen, and Google image agrees. Only had a few damaged leaves and no stinky pot. Even the cashier seemed confused about the markdown.

Old leaves with yellow spots

Planted pothos on a fish tank with some Philodendron sp. 'Papua New Guinea' (or know as "Yamasakikazura").

Oldest leaves don't have any problems but 2-3 of it got some yellow spots suddenly one day, luckily it doesn't get bigger and spread? to the others.

Feeding guppy and corydoras once per day. Is this a sign of lacking of NPK or trace elements? Root issue? Spray too much?

Really appreciate any help 🙏

Good setup for propogsting a Golden Pothos?

I recently plucked this Pothos cutting from my siblings plant to try and propogate my own (They let me pluck it i didnt take it). It has multiple nodes and leaves and one of the nodes is under the water (I used regular drinking water). Should I change something or just let it be and see what happens? Also, when should I know when to pot it into soil?

I saw this today and it made me so sad.

I’m pretty sure this is a golden and Home Depot is neglecting her so bad. After all the hard work she put into growing like that 😭

Thrips?

Does my pothos have thrips?? I read a post about thrips and it kind of describes mine (browning on leaves & slow growing).

I thought maybe the plant isn’t growing slow & I’m just impatient. & maybe the leaves were brown from sun burn? But now I’m paranoid.

Please excuse the leaves that my cat snacks on. 😵‍💫

Golden Pothos Help

I inherited two golden pothos a few years ago and I decided to refresh their soil about a month ago. They seemed to be happy in their original soil/pots but the soil had started compacting and pulling away from the sides (and I was feeling adventurous). Admittedly I used potting soil I had purchased a number of years ago, but I added some fertilizer pellets and put them back in their original pots (concrete pots).

Since the soil refresh they seem rather perturbed - their leaves keep dying and there is a grey cast to the top of the soil (see photos). Did I just use bad soil? I did plant them a little more spread out to hope they would fill in the pots a little better and I’m heating pothos might prefer to be more root bound/closer together.

Any help would be appreciated! I’m a plant novice with a historic black thumb but have fallen in love with the greenery and joy they bring to my house and want them to make it!

My very sick pothos 🤞🏼

Hi!! I come seeking help for my treasured (and very sick) pothos.

This plant was originally my boyfriend’s that was grown in a small pot with no drainage hole. It’s always looked sickly, so I asked my certified Master Gardener friend for advice. She told me to repot him and cut him to give him a chance. This was in early September 2025. I put pictures of what it looked like before repotting. When I took it out of its pot, we discovered some kind of previous bug infestation. They were kind of white roll-poly looking bugs. They clearly were the culprit of making the plant to sick.

So now I’ve been stressing tirelessly about how to bring my poor plant back. Pictures below are from now. A few weeks ago I replaced the soil to indoor potting mix and it responded well, he kind shot off a little. But now it hasn’t really budged. I thought the roots looked pretty good for what they were.

I’ve been trying sooo hard to not overwater. He lives under a grow light about 3-4 days a week for 8 hours. Rest spent in an indirectly lit window.

So I am here to see how I can help him take off and thrive. I’m so emotionally attached, so I really don’t want to give up on him 😭😭

Any advice is SOO appreciated 🙌🏼

These are two pothos, identifying and tips?

I was wondering if anyone could identify my two pothos, one has been with me for 3 years (we had to remove its longest stem which was about 2-3 metres in length) but I wanted to know any tips, up until now I was just watering but I would like to start doing a little more for them especially since I got a lovely new one also. Thank you any tips appreciated!!

Can I keep my pothos in the same pot indefinitely?

This pothos is approaching 2 years old, and it seems like an absurd amount of plant to be coming out of the pot that it's in. I have never kept a houseplant alive for this long (although you'll find evidence of previous root abuse in my post history, those plants were intended to be temporary). It appears to be as healthy and as vigorous as ever.

It's become so tangled up in its surroundings, I'm not sure if I could re-pot it successfully. Will there come a point where it's no longer able to withstand the non-consensual bondage I've subjected its roots to? Or is it possible for it to continue to thrive indefinitely in the same pot?

Why is my pothos going banana mode 🍌

Leaves are turning yellow instead of the usual green + variegation. It’s growing in water and it sits on a shelf near my balcony with morning light.

Is this too much light, nutrient related or just normal for this type?
