ID help please?

Apparently I trimmed this back last year but I don't recall (or ever knew) what it is. I'm trying to decide if I keep it or make room for someone new.

What would be a good evergreen plant to grow for a privacy trellis?

I’m still brainstorming so any tips or ideas are welcome and appreciated. I have an area in my yard that is in clear view of the neighbors next door. I am trying to think of a relatively affordable way to add some privacy to my yard using plants. I really like the idea of a simple trellis with something that can grow vertically and survive the winter. I’ve seen some people who have jasmine, but really don’t know too much about it.

Advice on an ornamental cherry tree variety?

I’m trying to decide on an ornamental cherry to eventually serve as canopy for a dogwood. I’ve sort of narrowed it down to Yoshino, Okame, or Shiro-Fugen. Main requirements are that it be in the 15’ to 20’ range, tolerant of heat, the space has good drainage, summer water isn’t a huge problem, and I’d actually prefer some fruit (for the birds). My info source is https://www.epicgardening.com/flowering-cherry-trees/.

All Wood Recycling; compost/dirt questions

I am fairly new (2nd yr) to having a fairly large hobby garden.

I live in NE portland, near Glendoveer golf course for ref.

We live on a property that was overgrown with trees with bramble for 40years, so as we slowly plug away at getting it cleared...we take our yard debris to all wood recyclers in Fairview.

We've purchased their 5 way soil blend for a couple raised beds, and are using it to supplement some inground beds this season..leaning more toward no dig style this year.

Anyway, I just realized they also have compost, but most people rec Mt. Scott Fuel for their organic compost.

I guess i'm just curious if anyone has compared? What i might run in to with AWR dirt/compost that i wouldn't at Mt. Scott. I see people talk about Mt. Scott often and never about AWR and i'm wondering if i'm missing something!

THanks!

Is this fungus on my nectarine tree? What do I do?!

I have never dealt with this before. My tree is about 3 years old, so it is still young. I’ve noticed the leaves curling and some areas turning red/calloused.

What do I need to know about this and what do I need to do? I love this little tree and want to help it be healthy!

Japanese maple help

I planted a Japanese Maple in late February and this week I noticed all the leaves are drooping and about a third of the branches seem to be on their way out. I’m pretty sure it’s root rot? (Thanks to google.) I have high clay soil but it’s well amended. Can this tree be saved? It’s grown over six inches so far so it thrived for awhile.

Wood Fences 7' x 3'

Sitting outside Slow Pour on 13th, in Sellwood.

There are 4 segments.

Looks like it was the previous tenants interior decorations. They look beautiful!

Confirmed with crew that it's headed to recycling and is available to claim.

Iso: Mulch/ wood chip for grabs?

Hi, N/NE Portland neighbors. anybody got extra mulch/ woodchip drop that don't mind sharing?

I don't need much, hence not requesting a chip drop myself. N/NE Portland neighborhoods preferred, thanks! :)

2026 Free Seed + Plant Swap

Asked mod for a new stickied post and she said to make it and she’ll sticky it. I figured it would be easier to have a new stickied thread for free seed + plant swap, so that new comments don’t get so lost in the old thread. Also if you’re ISO something, also leave a comment, maybe someone has an extra.

do you know what these are?

probably an impossible ask but on the off chance anyone knows what these little sprouts are popping up all over my new community garden plot.....can you tell me?

was going to wait for true leaves before ripping them out (what if i like them?) but the way they are proliferating makes me think they can't be good.

bless you

Sellwood Starts - Weekend Plant Giveaway (Sat/Sun)

Hey Folks!

Located in Sellwood, I put my greenhouse out on the street on 21st Ave, between Rex and Knapp with veggie starts for the community. This weekend, it will be up on Sat/Sun at about noon each day (to beat the cold).

I'm back, this week with tomatoes (and a couple extra peppers, herbs, etc that are filling up my racks). I've got Egg from Phuket (adaptive seeds), Purple Cherokee (territorial seeds), Dwarf Confetti (adaptive), Perfect Rouge (adaptive), and Indigo Blueberry (territorial).

Two weeks ago, I gave out 36 herb starts, and the week before I gave away about 20 peppers. Starting Saturday I'll have fifty tomato plants out, and on Sunday I'll be putting out a lot of my spare peps. Jalepeno, Sugar Rush Peach, Lightning Limon, Padron, Buffy, and Prik Cha Fa.

Plants are first-come-first-serve, but I ask that you limit yourself to 2 plants to let the wealth go around. Venmo donations for the soil/containers/fert/my time are of course accepted :).

Growing conditions are completely organic and filled with love.

Drop on by saturday or sunday and grab some plants! I will probably only do one more weekend giveaway, in a couple weeks when I need to pot up again. But if you have any special requests for starts you'd like to see next month or next year, feel free to suggest!

And I'd just like to say many thank yous to the mods here and the community here for letting me do these giveaways and for everyone coming to grab plants!

Anyone’s ground cherries coming in yet?

I planted a ground cherry last year and it did GREAT!! But now I’m waiting for it to come back and it’s… not. 😢 Especially with our mild winter, I was expecting to see it popping back to life. Can anyone confirm if theirs is coming back?

Got plants?

Hey gardeners. On the second Saturday of the month, I host a plant pickup + open garden + plant nerd hang out at my place in outer NE Portland. I have a backyard nursery with mostly natives, and invite local growers to set up to sell their goodies here. Also welcome anyone who wants to table about their plant/garden related service.

DM me if you are interested.

I hate ants, except for these very good boys

I bought my house 1.5 years ago and found all these roots buried kind of deep. I removed a lot of the dirt so the tops were sort of just lightly covered and waited to see what might happen. Anyway, peonies happened! Complete with ant guardians.

Recommendations for landscape maintenance?

I’m looking for somebody to do landscape maintenance in the parkrose area. No sprays or pesticides. If you have any good recommendations, please share them.
