First pop-up!

In fact, first camper of any type. Now with a 3 and 5 year old the convenience is paramount. We’re going to a folk music festival for Memorial Day and can’t wait to try it out.

Couple questions though:

- Anyone put more efficient tires on theirs? This is an off road model with knobby tires that we don’t really need. It’s not going anywhere our F-150 isn’t. Furthermore our truck is an EV so anything that increases range is huge (it’s why we chose a pop-up in the first place).

- Awning recommendations? I see a Dometic listed on some sites, but with many complaints. Is it better to get a standalone EZ-up or something or should i get the attachable awning?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone know if this solar setup will run a 12 volt refrigerator and a few lights for an entire weekend?

First time out with this trailer next weekend. We will be on a gravel bar in full sunlight all weekend. I’m new to solar and am completely unfamiliar with all of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just bought our first pop up! What are some must haves?

Just bought a 1995 Jayco Eagle 12 - shows its age outside but has been very well maintained on the interior. What are the must haves? Also how odd is it to take a pop up to RV parks? Thanks for helping me with my boring basic questions.

Confused about weight

I am looking at purchasing my brother-in-law’s pop-up trailer. It has a toy hauler section at the front, and the sticker says it has a GVWR of 3,800 lbs, but the frame itself says 2,100 lbs.

My current vehicle is a Mazda CX-90 PHEV, which is rated to tow 3,500 lbs. I used to have a 23-foot trailer that weighed around 3,900 lbs, and towing that with a Honda Pilot was not a great experience. I have a hard time believing the two trailers are actually that close in weight.

I’m just wondering if this pop-up trailer would realistically be safe for my vehicle to tow.

Since it a toy Haller I think the gvwr would take the weight of the atv in consideration or am I wrong? Obviously I don't plan on bringing a heavy item like that.

Loving our setup

2021 Viking Vtrec V3! This has been a great setup for us and allows us to bring the 4 wheeler along. I recently installed a roof mounted AC unit to keep us cool this summer. I also upgraded the battery to a 150 AH LiFePo4 paired with 200w of suitcase solar panels.

Bought a 1990 Coleman pop up, how do I put up the awning?

Awning slides in at the top, and I have these three poles. The cover itself has three holes at the other end of the fabric. So it seems like each pole would go into one hole and it would prop up.

But it has no support from the top of the pop up out to the end. So it just says and will fall over. No other equipment came with it as far as I can tell.

I figure I must be missing support beams that go from the pop up along the fabric to give it support.

Trying to find things on Google for this older model isn't working so far.

Do I really need the battery?

Bat is dead and I travel Thur to a state park with hook ups. Not running the heater and I only cook outside.

Do actually need to go buy a bat for this 3 day trip?

What are these types of sockets/plug-ins called?

I just inherited my families 98 Coleman Taos, and it has this style of dome light with the large headphone jack looking electrical socket.

I cannot seem to find any info on them, but wanted to look up any possible accessories I could attach to them. Does anyone have ideas?

How can I test one out?!

Hi puppers! Longtime listener, first time caller.

I’m a car/tent camper and backpacker, finally entering the season of life where I’ll be able to venture off on longer weekends more frequently.

For context, no one in my family likes to camp and it’s hard to sort logistics with friends, so it’s me, solo, with my dog.

I’m considering upgrading to a (used and small) pop-up, but I want to see if I like it before committing to a purchase.

The rental companies near me don’t have pop ups available, and I have no idea where else to look.

I have considered just buying one for a few grand but that feels like a whole lot just to try something.

In addition to the camping part, I have no experience towing and want to get the hang of that.

Do I just go for it and take the risk?

Post First Trip Questions

Hello! Took our new to us and first PUP out this weekend, an '05 Rockwood Freedom. I took many people's advice and just went with what I thought I needed for the first trip and now have a few questions I'm hoping some more experienced travelers could answer.

  1. Whenever the other couple that went with us got up in the middle of the night, the whole camper shook a decent bit. I have all four stabilizers down but am wondering if there is anything else I could be doing to eliminate that more, or if we will just have to get used to it.

  2. I obsessed over how level the camper had to be, to the point where I made everyone get out and relevel it. How important is the accuracy in how level it is?

  3. Being as it was our first trip, we went pretty bare bones. What's the best addition you've made to your setup? The winner of the weekend was the battery-powered water pump in the five gallon water jug, so anything along those lines.

Thanks in advance!

Any pop ups that have chairs instead of benches at the table? Full details inside

Trying to figure out a path here. I want to have an office in a pop up.

I also don't care for a bathroom.

I want:

  1. Fridge
  2. AC
  3. Full Bed (OK, queen seems rare to non existent in popups)
  4. table by door but no fixed bench by door. Just chairs so I can replace them with an office chair.

Would like:

  1. heat
  2. Queen size bed (1)

This floorplan is ideal but that stupid bench by the door: Flagstaff Tent 227MT

Thinking about getting a popup camper - worth it?

I’ve been looking at popup campers and like the idea of something lightweight and easy to tow.

Not planning anything extreme, mostly weekend trips and short getaways.

For those who have one, does it actually feel worth it long-term or does the setup/pack-down get old?

My pop up is about 2500lbs, my vehicle and hitch are all rated well above that weight, but every bump terrifies me. Is it supposed to bang around and feel like it’s going to pop off the hitch each time???!

My hitch does rattle since it doesn’t fit snug in my vehicle, but I’ve had a few people tell me that’s ok.

Anyone else experience this??

Hello! I’m new here so I apologize if this has been asked many times already. I am interested in buying a 2007 Fleetwood Utah. I have two small kids, 3 years old and 9 months old and my biggest concern is the camper not being able to block enough noise out while they are sleeping. Am I overthinking or potentially under thinking other issues a pop-up would present?

How it started...

I really do try to do everything the hard way. This video was from Saturday. About 2/3 torn out and after it stops raining I'm gonna rip off the ac and get the roof off. I was trying to avoid that cause I'll have to do it in the driveway, but seems unavoidable.

Great shoulder workout tho... 😜

Hi pop up peeps!

I was curious if anyone has towed a pop up with a Subaru Forester? (Mines a 2010 Forrester) I towed my new to me, 1997 jayco eagle 8sd, maybe an 1hr distance on the highway when I purchased it and that went fine… but I am curious to know if there is anything I need to consider when towing long distances once I get out on the road … Much Appreciated!!!

Anode stuck - how much force?

Bought this 2000 Coleman Santa Fe a year ago, and I'd like to start using the water heater. I tried to remove the anode yesterday, and it was stuck. I sprayed it with penetrating oil, and I'm going to try to remove it again today.

My question is how much force can I apply without doing damage? I have a 1/2" drive battery impact. Can I use that to break the anode loose, or am I going to do damage to the water heater?

2006 Viking Epic 2107 supports?

I cannot figure out what these metal c-channel supports are for in the camper I bought. Does anyone here know what these are for?
