MetLife price increase & switching carriers?

Hi, I've read several similar posts and I know so many of us are in the same boat but just hoping to get some insight on my situation! I signed up for MetLife pet insurance in 2024 before I even met the dog I was adopting at a great rate.

Original: ~$80 a month, $250 deductible, 90% reimbursement, $10,000 yearly coverage. preventive care included.

One year later it went up to ~$112 a month with the same details.

My renewal came up and of course, the rates are way up and coverage is different. I did a bunch of research and realized I could switch to Lemonade or PetsBest and lower it to around $95 a month with similar coverage and details.

However, after weighing out the risks of the dreaded pre-existing conditions scenarios, I decided I shouldn't switch. My dog has environmental allergies and a ton of anxiety both of which she has been treated for in the past. We all know Apoquel isn't cheap so I imagine I would be paying for that out of pocket right quick due to it being considered a pre-existing condition. She's a healthy 4 year old dog, but I'm sure there have been many other things she's been seen for that might interfere with coverage in the future if I switched carriers.

I ended up choosing what seemed like the best option for my MetLife renewal. $103 a month, $600 deductible, 80% reimbursement, $5,000 yearly coverage, preventive care included. Compared to my original rates this feels like highway robbery lol, but I don't see many other good options besides just not having pet insurance, which is stressful to think about considering the "what ifs" you know.

Thoughts? Should I just switch? Did I get an ok deal with MetLife considering how expensive pet insurance is getting? Advice welcome! Thx :)

Likelihood of coverage for multi purpose surgery

Likelihood of coverage for multi purpose surgery

I have pets best insurance. My 9 year old dog is going to have an anesthesic dental done later this month. I ended up asking about a skin tag that has grown in size over the last couple years and I just got the estimate from the vet. I called Pets Best and they couldn’t tell me what’s covered and said to just get the procedures and submit and “see what happens” essentially. I know the dental won’t be covered because he hasn’t had one before and that’s in their policy. However, would some of the anesthesia/monitoring/fluids etc be covered if they do cover the skin tag removal? (Likely will be covered as he didn’t have when I got him and I have photos that show that) This is how I got the estimate, with dental after the “subtotal” if that makes a difference. I just care more about if someone else has been in a similar situation and gotten coverage of more than just the mass removal/histopath. Thanks!

Best health insurance for a 4 year old dog (with no existing conditions) and an 8-year old dog (with some existing conditions)

They are discontinuing our plan at Nationwide and seems like some of the conditions she has developed during the time at Nationwide aren't going to be covered according to the letter they sent (she has thyroid and kidney disease), regardless of what we choose with them.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a health insurance for senior dogs/approaching senior years?

Displaced vulva - pre-existing condition?

I just got a 3 month old puppy and took her to the vet for the first time and they noted a displaced vulva. I unfortunately did not get insurance before this first visit. They said it can make her prone to UTIs. If she gets a UTI in the future, will it not be covered because she has a displaced vulva?

ASPCA

I got APSCA insurance after doing some googling and found they were well reviewed from at least one news article. Obviously should have done more research, and I’m kicking myself for that now.

In the past I’ve utilized their poison hotline for dumb things like I left curry on the table and my dog decided to find a way to it, etc. I had good experiences and decided why not do the insurance too.

Fast forward, I wait until his insurance is in full effect to take advantage of my dog’s new wellness coverage. ASPCA provides immediate coverage for wellness, but, of course, if my dog were diagnosed with anything before the rest of his coverage was active it would have been preexisting and not covered. Fair enough.

So I take him to the vet for a wellness exam after being sure he’s well within their range. I decided on a new vet my mum had told me about, because they were cheaper and she said just as good as the very fancy new vet hospital I took my dog too since I got him. During that exam they checked out his leg (it was broken before I got him, he was given a botched surgery again before I got him and it never healed properly), and I asked him about GERD, my previous vet said it was from eating too fast and dogs couldn’t get acid reflux and so they never did anything about it. Which again fair. I thought I’d ask again here about both issues. It’s a wellness check, it’s what you do.

I didn’t expect any of the tests from those two things to be covered, if they were great, if not whatever. I just expected his flea meds, his blood work etc to be reimbursed. Which were apart of him setting up care and his preventative exam. I didn’t expect full pay outs, just the “discount” I’m entitled to.

Well I’m currently on the 3rd week fighting with the insurance about this. They are refusing to pay out the discounts for flea and tick meds, his blood test, etc. They are reimbursing none of it. They are claiming it is all an illness. And I’ve about had it. I’ve responded to their e-mail after they denied it a 2nd time and if it happens again I’m reporting them to the state. I wish I had taken the reviews of their insurance more seriously. Don’t be me. Buyer beware.

Pets Best User Portal Down For the Past Week

Has anyone been able to log in to their portal and file a claim? I keep getting a Microsoft Azure error every time I have attempted over the last week, and they are not responding to any support emails as well. Effectively, I can't file a claim. Genius business model.

Petsbest

Has anyone gotten into thier account since thier website stopped working back in like, October?

They arent even sending me receipts for what they are charging my card for. I can't log in to see it or my policy.

It's kind of wild, I was patient since I didn't have any claims but have been thinking to put in some of my vet appointments to keep it updated.

Yes, I have emailed. Calling takes 30+min to get someone so I am not thrilled to waste time doing that but I may

Lemonade price increase

I’ve had Lemonade pet insurance for my dog since I first got her. It was originally $32.67 when she was a year old. She just turned 6 a few weeks ago and doesn’t have any pre-existing health conditions. Over the years, the price has increased (at first it was small, but two years ago was a big jump) but this most recent price increase is absolutely ridiculous. They now want me to pay $70.17 a month, which is a 23% increase from what I was paying last year. I’m trying to change the annual limit and potentially the deductible to get my monthly premium lowered, but even then, it just gets me to ~$64 a month. I asked for the reasoning behind the increase, and they just gave me a canned response about how it’s determined based on a combo of my zip code, pet’s breed, age, and gender, but it’s all very vague. For example, my dog is a female mixed breed, but in their explanation, they don’t pinpoint exactly why/if that impacts my rate.

TL;DR: I feel taken advantage of and want to look at other plans, but I know that starting a 6 year old dog with a new insurance provider might cost the same amount. Has anyone else experienced this?
