He was one of the great movie bad guys of the 80s appearing in movies such as The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Willow, Red Sonja, Never Say Never Again, Clash of the Titans and Conan the Destroyer. His presence in movies were iconic and unforgetable.
Does anyone know what the congregation in Temple of Doom are saying? I aint talking about a Mola Ram translation, seen plenty of those now. But i cannot find a translation for the many other people there.
Finally found a set of Champagne glasses.
And yes, Alden on The Fugitive and Blade Runner too.
Currently, I only have 3 bars of health and the second boxer keeps knocking me out. Any tips on how to successfully beat him up?
I'm considering an in-universe explanation for Brody's personality change between Raiders and Last Crusade. He seems to have gone from a fairly savvy, competent academic and possible former adventurer himself - he even says he would have gone after the Ark himself if he were a little younger - to a bumbling comic relief sidekick who, as noted, once got lost in his own museum.
I understand that the tone of the two movies is quite different, and Brody's change serves that new tone. In universe, though, I like to think that between movies he suffered some kind of health downturn that his friends recognise but haven't said anything about.
There's also the possibility that Brody was always like that and he simply doesn't have the opportunity to 'bumble' in Raiders, and that Indy simply humours him when he says things about how he could go after artifacts himself. I don't buy it though - the way he talks about the Ark makes me think that Raiders Brody has Seen A Few Things.
The indy franchise is what got me interested in film and tv, i love them to death. I think i was 5 when i first saw them, since i loved the lego games (born 06), my dad showed me the films. I also watched some of the young indy episodes as a kid, since we had it on dvd, and loved it, didnt watch all episodes i would watch some specific episodes on repeat, for example masks of evil and peacocks eye. And now probably like 10 years later i thought about how i have like never heard anyone even mention this show. Therefore i started rewatching it, and put on peacocks eye, and im seriously blown away. I mean the production value, action, set pieces exe are pretty incredible. I understand that episodes could be hit or miss, but jesus, there is some really good stuff in this show. Some of my friends who love film, who also have raiders as their favourite film didnt even know this show exist, since it also seems like these are canon (not old indy part).
Any of the fellow indy fans here who has some thoughts on the show?
Hey all you’ve maybe seen my past couple posts talking about seeing Raiders and Temple of Doom for the first time and I just wrapped up the og trilogy with my first watch of Last Crusade. I really liked it, really cool getting more backstory on Indy and seeing his relationship with his dad. Even though I’ve just experienced his movies over the past couple days, the cut from young Indy getting the hat to present Indy on the boat gave me chills! Seeing how his dad was super distant and wanted Indy to rely on himself was interesting and explains how Indy can handle himself so much. The bad guys were great (Elsa in particular Indy is such a horn dog he couldn’t help himself but she got what she deserved in the end). The tank and boat scenes where stand outs for me, and I love how they just leave the grail (something’s are better left alone) also loved the design cause of course it’s just gonna be a regular ass cup. The escape from the castle was great and I love the running gag of his dad fucking up. I definitely liked it a lot but I think it just kinda fell a little short of the magic of the first two I can’t quite put my finger on it but I just had more fun with raiders and temple for some reason. If I’m scoring/ranking them I’d probably go 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 9.5/10 2.Temple of Doom 8.5/10 3.Last Crusade 8/10 I think Raiders had better action and more iconic set pieces and Temple was more fun and also full of Iconic moments. I’m gonna take a break from Indy for now and watch KotCS and DoD in a few weeks I got some other movies in the backlog I wanna watch and am gonna rewatch the Lord of the Rings trilogy next since I haven’t seen them since I was a kid. Overall very glad I finally got around to watching them and adding a new favorite series to my list. Let me know your thoughts on The Last Crusade and just the OG trilogy in general. Great movies!!!
Edit cause I realized something that kind of holds it back for me as well, conidering this is the last installment of the original trilogy, it didn’t really feel like the end of a trilogy more like just another installment, that is something I typically look for in final installments so hopefully dial of destiny can give me that sort of closure
Anyone remember those? I had what I now know to be the first one; _Indiana Jones and the Curse of Horror Island_. You would show up as the usual CYOD type of character, but you’d be “Indiana Jones’ cousin” though your character acted a bit more like a Short Round style sidekick for the story. You did make the choices, of course. You’d also run into the usual hazards and well, you could end up in the kind of gruesome fates you’d expect for an Indy story (and honestly, even the regular CYOD books). This one in particular had one where you’d end up in an infinite loop. It was really funny, because when you enter the loop even Indy says “I think we’re going in circles” and then you keep going through the same two or three pages! At some point I found the “good” ending but I can’t remember what it was.
I never got the other ones, though.
My son has inherited my zeal for Indiana Jones, and while he hasn't seen the movies yet, he's been a big fan of the Disneyland ride since he's been tall enough to ride.
Unfortunately I didn't realize my printer ink was low but everything came together fine anyways.
But as a lifelong Indy/Harrison/George and Steve fan and a writer myself, I HAD to develop a character for the novel universe I write based on Indy. The question I had was: what are some of you guys favorite lost treasures, real or mythical or historical mysteries, also real or mythical that you always thought were interesting??? I myself have been diving into the fact and fiction around Mansa Musa for example recently for this series
UPDATE: I like triple posted and apologize. Deleted the extras
I’m not the best artist, but Indiana inspires me a lot. Some of these arts are pretty old!! Tsar’s ring and Toht with hair is for my AU. Don’t want to tell much about it, it’s a bit silly. I would like to draw Indiana himself more, I would be glad if someone offers some ideas.
The latest episode of the podcast “What Went Wrong” (where they cover the making of various movies, one per episode) is about Temple of Doom. I listened to it today, and they talked about Ke Huy Quan’s relationship with Harrison Ford on set, including the fact that Ford taught him to swim.
This got me thinking — Teddy in DoD is of course a bit of an homage to Short Round (or, as some might put it, Temu Shorty). Does anyone know if the fact that Indy informally teaches Teddy to swim is a reference to this fact? Seems like it could be to me, but we have nowhere near the wealth of making-of info for DoD that we do for the prior four movies.
I was playing the end of Assassin's Creed Revelations today and there's a part where Ezio falls off of a cart but grabs a rope, he goes under the cart and comes out the back, being dragged behind by the rope. Seemed like a reference to the desert chase scene in Raiders.
It wouldn't be the first pop culture reference in an Assassin's Creed game (see "It's-a me, Mario!" in AC2) so wouldn't surprise me if it was intentional. Either way, I thought it was great. Judge for yourself:
Done this before in the past and think it wasn't all that long ago I did it, but what the heck. I'm in an Indy mood with Summer looming and the series always seeing regular rotation as part of my Summer viewing. Thought this would be fun. Your super, ultra unpopular and controversial Indy opinions. Not just controversial but downright blasphemous. Opinions that you think would land you in a similar position as one John Wick in the picture. And I mean unpopular, not ones that are commonly held like "Raiders is the best movie ever," "Last Crusade is the best and better than the rest," "Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny suck," "I hate Willie and Short Round," "Temple Of Doom is too dark and violent," "Nazis should always be the villains," etc. I'm talking extremely unpopular and not widely held ones.
I've definitely got my share of scorching hot takes on the series for sure. Get ready, some of these takes burn hotter than the lava under Pankot Palace.
* While I still really like it and think it's a good film, Last Crusade is honestly probably my least favorite of all five. It's still a very good movie and I enjoy it a lot, but for some reason just not as much as the rest and it doesn't strike as strong a chord with me. Probably my most unpopular IJ opinion and one I'm not sure how many others here also share it (I'd imagine there's others but they likely keep quiet about it). I'd be curious if there's others who share this.
* Temple Of Doom is the best of the series and the one truest to the classic adventure serials. The installment that best epitomizes Indy and his world.
* Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny are both good. Neither is perfect and without flaws, but I felt they were as good as could've been coming so many years after the fact and Harrison being much older.
* Short Round is the best sidekick (not sure if this is unpopular?).
* Willie Scott isn't that bad. Sure she screams a lot but how else is she supposed to react in her situation? She's representative of the audience.
* Likewise, I also don't mind Helena and Teddy in DOD. Helena at first was sufferable but got better by the end.
* Sallah was a good character in Raiders but had no purpose for being in more movies after that. He was reduced to useless (and sometimes downright annoying) comic relief in TLC and while his role in DOD was better, he still felt he was there mainly for fan service.
* Nazis as the villains all the time is boring and unneeded. I felt re-using them in both TLC and DOD was a big flaw and it especially feels dull and uninspired in TLC.
* I didn't mind the aliens in KOTCS and felt it fit in with the time and zeitgeist in which the movie was set.
* Likewise, I also don't mind the time travel aspects of DOD.
