Previous prototype failed due to missing rotational lock mechanism

Back in 2021, I built an early version of this backrest.

On paper, it looked right. Solid structure, clean mounting, everything aligned. But once I tested it, a problem showed up.

The backrest was rotating backward under load.

The issue was simple. Both mounting screws were on the same axis, so there was nothing stopping that rotation. No real locking point. That made the whole setup unstable over time.

At the time, I was also trying to keep things simple in terms of production. I didn’t want to introduce a separate locking device or add extra parts. Everything had to stay within CNC-cut plates.

So in the new version, I approached it differently.

I added a locking point away from the main screw axis, built directly into the plate design. No extra mechanism, just geometry doing the job. That single change stopped the backward rotation and made the structure stable under load.

Simple idea, but it changed everything.

Curious to hear your take.

Would you solve it the same way, or go for a completely different approach?

What can cause this and how serious is it? I was thinking it’s running lean but now I’m not sure since I just noticed this today. First pic is right exhaust and second is left for comparison.

Installed a few new parts

- Cobra Megaphone Exhaust ( baffle in, may remove)

- Viking Saddlebags (28l Pantheons, quick release)

- Step-up seat (Amazon)

- Sissy Bar with rack (Amazon)

- Passenger Pegs

Currently considering some different options for a windscreen/fairing, but she's just about perfect now.

Curious About Getting An 1100

I'm looking at getting a cruiser and interested in the Honda Rebel 1100, but I don't know if it's the right fit for me and I thought you guys might be able to help. So here's all the information I can provide and my goals for the bike.

I've been riding for a year, my first and only bike is a Yamaha R3. I love my little R3, it's an excellent beginner bike, and I love how fast it feels without being absolutely busted like the R7 or other higher-range sportbikes. I love guiding it with my hips and taking turns just leaning to one side or the other.

But I've been looking at cruisers for a few reasons. The R3 feels just a little small under me at 6'3". I'd like for my wife to ride with me as well, and the R3 wouldn't be able to take the weight of a passenger (and seems like it would be uncomfortable for a passenger anyway). A cruiser would have better handling on the highway and better comfort for longer drives. I just like the form factor of those 1950s style bikes, I think they look cool. The ground clearance is higher than a touring bike and still allows me to lean into turns a little, even if not as much as a sport bike.

My only cruiser experience so far is on the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, which I enjoyed overall, but the suspension feels terrible. Even just running over manholes feels uncomfortable. Which is all a shame because the aesthetics of the bike are great.

I looked online and compared it to the Indian Scout Sixty, Kawasaki Vulcan S, and Yamaha Bolt R-Spec. But I think overall I like the Rebel 1100 better. Performance-wise though, I don't really know how they compare. I like the Rebel 1100's screen connectivity to my phone, but I do already use a Cardo system for my helmet, and I'm alright with using Google Maps' voice directions even if I prefer seeing a map, so not having the Honda connect system isn't a dealbreaker.

My price range is optimally, sub-10k USD. But I'm willing to go a bit over if I'm really convinced I like the bike and it's a good investment. The one I built on the Honda site was around 10k and I know with fees it'll be a bit over.

Do you guys think the Rebel 1100 is right for me?

Built a Double Backrest Setup for the Rebel 500 — What do you think?

I designed this setup for my own Honda Rebel and tested it on my bike.

It’s a double backrest system for both rider and passenger, with:

  • Adjustable rider backrest
  • Passenger backrest
  • Extra padded rear seat
  • Radiator guard
  • Headlight guard

The idea was simple: make long rides actually comfortable without ruining the look of the bike.

Curious what you guys think about the design and the concept.

If anyone wants to check more details, it’s available on Amazon:

Sports bike jacket on a Rebel 500

Hey guys, I just got a Rebel 500 and went to buy some gear today. I ended up getting a white sports bike jacket but is it weird to wear that kind of jacket on a gray Rebel? I feel like I normally see people in armored hoodies or leather jackets. So just wondering if that’s weird or if it’s normal.

Suspension & Saddle Upgrade

I’m 6’ and 209 lbs with long legs. I got this new cheap saddle on Amazon for $150 and it added able 2”s there. Then added the Burley Brand Stiletto two stage shocks to the rear, upgraded springs in the forks with some heavier weight oil. So the bike now sits almost 5.5” taller than stock and it feels so much better riding the freeway etc. almost no lower back pain now. Wanted to share out for other folks that may have been in my position.

Decided to go for a Rebel 1100 as my first owned bike!

I know there are lots of the same images every day, but this one is mine.

Also thank you to this sub for helping me choose the 1100 over the 500. I would have wanted more if I’d gone with the smaller model, though it does look great.

FIRST MOD (why does it look like that?)

The mirrors looks HUGE, I’m slowly trying to mimic this build, why does the mirrors look different

Got my Rebel!

As a short person, this bike is a blessing and I'm so happy that I got it new, 0 miles on it. It's also my first bike after passing a strict motorcycle course to get my license.

This is a 500 2025 Special Edition in Candy Orange and it's been baptized as Garfield by my BJJ fellows.

Let me just say that leaning and riding in this bike makes me so much more confident than the taller bikes I took my license with.

Comfortable on this bike?

Hi everyone,

Since I’ve finally calmed down/aged a bit and should no longer kill myself by doing something stupid on a bike, I’m planning on getting my license this year and I’m heavily looking into the Rebel 500.

However, I’m not a small guy - 185cm/6’1 and weigh 125kg/275lbs.

Looking at reviews this seems to be more towards/over the limit for this bike and wanted to get some input from everyone here.

Some upgrades I’m expecting that will most likely be needed to improve comfort:

* seat

* front controls

* suspension

* wind screen/cowl

Any feedback on how useful these would be and/or suggestions would be appreciated as well.
