Clueless as to what to do with this space.

Clueless as to what to do with this space.

We bought a house and there’s this space that used to be a door, but I’m not sure what to do here to hide or camouflage it in. The trim is pretty thick around it. Any suggestions?

Something’s off

We have just started our bedroom renovation. My wife asked me to draw the room beforehand so we could visualize how the room end ups. I really worked on to find pieces closer to the what we have or purchased; and im glad i found em :). However room feels lacking character, like a showroom. Pls help me find😇

Porch wood stain color- which one?

1st two photos are of the current situation.

House was built in 1930. Stain brand will be DEFY Extreme Semi-Transparent Exterior Wood Stain- colors are noted on the photos. Bottom white bit will probably stay white contrary to generated photos.

Is this possible?

This is the room we are working with and an example of what I’m trying to achieve. My question is- is it possible to have a custom built in built around the two square windows so that the bookshelf can go all the way up to the ceiling? It might be a silly question but just wanted to see what others thought

Why is home decor either “minimalist luxury hotel” or “grandma’s attic”… there is no in-between??

I’ve been trying to decorate my place for months and everything I find online is either:

  • completely sterile white boxes
  • or chaotic “cozy maximalism” that looks like a thrift store exploded

Where is the normal human version of home?

Just want a space that looks lived-in but not messy 😭

I’m so bored with this space part II

Second attempt because I’m a dingus that forgot to post the accompanying pics ;-)

Hey folks I’d love some help designing this family room space. We’ll be starting fresh so pretend it’s a blank canvas no electronics or furniture yet.

Id like to put tv where it used to be, I worry the other wall next to the fireplace corner would be visually distracting. That said, I’m open to layout ideas if there’s something I haven’t considered. I want to create a cozy, inviting room with plenty of seating since we love hosting family and friends and would appreciate recommendations on:

Furniture layout ideas, furniture shapes or sizes.

Dimensions-

16 1/2 ft from wall of window to wall behind Tv.

13ft from closet doors (just out of view but behind long couch) to wall next to fireplace.

I’m interior design impaired so be gentle.

Adding a pop of color to the hallway. This quirky Colorado prairie dog print warms up the space.

Ideas to hide ductwork?

I have a friend in the process of redoing her kitchen. It looks really nice so far from the picture she sent me. The only thing that I don’t care for is the exposed ductwork on the right side of the picture toward the ceiling.

I am wondering if anyone here has an idea on what she could do to hide that (if it bothers her)? It’s not terrible but I think it will get dusty and maybe the ductwork may yellow over time making it even more visible. Now would be a good time for her to address it if she wants to. Any suggestions?

Ideas for my balcony?

Hey everyone, I need your creative help for my balcony.

I'd love to turn it into a relaxing, cozy space where I can chill and really make the most of it during nice days. I also want to improve the look of the walls-especially the areas where the pipes are visible. My idea is to lay down some artificial grass to cover the floor since it's pretty worn out.

I also can't move the washing machine very much (it's inside the white cabinet), so that has to stay more or less where it is. Plus, need to include a small area for separating recycling (maybe under the boiler?)

The 500-liter water collection tank will be removed.

Pony Wall Bookshelf Design?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how I may approach building a pony wall bookshelf design here. My main problem is the wall wont be thick enough for a bookshelf without protruding out past the corner.

Small balcony cat-proofing + drying laundry ideas?

Hi! Looking for advice on my small balcony 😊

I’m currently making it cat-proof (with mesh), because my cats figured out they can climb the railing and jump onto the neighbor’s roof so safety is my priority.

I also use the balcony a lot for drying laundry, but I’m struggling: – Freestanding racks take up too much space – Inside is too narrow (plants + walking space) – With the mesh, I don’t know how to hang laundry over the railing anymore

I’d love a solution that keeps it: – safe for my cats – practical for drying clothes – and still somewhat neat

Any ideas or setups that worked for you? 🙏

Photo 1 = current situation Photo 2 = ChatGPT idea (not fully happy with it) Photo 3–4 = mesh + materials I bought

Thank you ❤️

How do you go from floor plan to blueprint?

I have designed a house that has everything I need and want from a house. It could serve me for the rest of my life. The only problem is that it's just a floor plan.

How can I take it from that to an actual blueprint that I can have an architect sign off on to be able to start getting permits (if I had the money together that is)?

I have ideas where every last detail would go. Outlets, switches, plumbing, fans, light fixtures, literally everything. I've been designing it for years so I know exactly what I want. I even mapped out the wiring in my head.

I'm only using a floor plan creator (free version at that), so I don't know how I could get it from there to a ready to build plan.

Where to start my dang stair railing?

I’m finishing my stairs and I have the most awkward walland I need to work with what I’ve got.

If I start the railing at the top of the stairs, it just looks off next to the wall. But if I start it lower on a step, it leaves a pretty big open gap at the bottom that also feels weird.

I feel like I’m stuck between two not great optionswhat looks better vs. what actually makes sense.

Has anyone dealt with something like this? Where would you start the railing? Open to any ideas or suggestions!
