Mercy west

I don’t know how I didn’t notice the first time around when I watched it but when the Mercy Westers first show up and they’re wandering around, they look like prisoners because of the orange scrubs 🤣

What painting is this in Meredith and Derek’s house?

Hi, all! For some context: I’m showing Grey’s Anatomy to my partner for the first time, and will be showing him these posts, so please avoid any spoilers if at all possible :) but we both quickly focused on the art on the wall and could not figure out what it is. We both are familiar with the band KISS and are fairly certain this is not them for a multitude of reasons lol, but we could be wrong. Any help here?

If you’re curious, this is less than a minute into S9.16

Thank you!

Is throwing up when upset that common?

There were so many instances of people throwing up when upset by bad news or a bad situation happened on this show. Is it really that common? I’ve been through some upsetting situations and received really bad news in my life (M58), and I nor anyone I’ve ever known has thrown up like they do so often on this show.

What was THE most shocking moment for you?

We can all agree that there are many MANY shocking scenes in the show: Danny's death, the bomb explosion, the bus overturning outside right outside the Hospital, Burke walking out on his wedding with Cristina, the plane crash, Derek's death, that shooter, etc etc. there's one that really stands out for me...

John Doe being George.

I don't know what it is about that scene, but when Meredith realises 007 it's possibly the most shocked I've ever been.

In fact, even now if I ever come across that scene I can feel myself gasping, proper gasping!

What are yours?

Meredith made the right choice

Doing a rewatch and just ended the first episode where Penny starts working at the hospital. MAN my opinion on this shifted.

Last time I watched through - like 4 years ago - I was of the belief that Amelia and Meredith both handled Derek's death poorly but overall Meredith f-ed up by not calling. Amelia was hurt and Penny needed better training.

But on a rewatch? Amelia WAY overstepped at almost every possible moment. And Meredith mostly just reacted to that. I despise this part of Amelia's character.

Meredith had more important things on her mind that night. (The kids' well-being WAS more important.) I wouldn't have called Amelia either: To protect my kids. The mentally unwell aunt being at the hospital, scream crying at doctors and confusing the kids by insisting she could save him? Only to have to unplug him anyway? Absolutely not. And there is nothing in the show previously or after that suggests Amelia would do literally anything other than exactly that.

She was *insistent* that Meredith should have been thinking of her first, and not herself or her kids. Should have been thinking of a family that made no real effort to visit her husband or her kids in their 8 ish years of marriage. Family that lives across the country except for one, that SHOULD NOT BE THERE. Which, thinking of my husband on the table, already dead but being kept alive by a tube: pull the plug. Make sure the memorial service honors the family that couldn't be there because this was a freak thing.

Not to say Amelia wasn't entitled to have deep, agonizing, cloying grief. She absolutely was. But the way she pinned her emotions and the responsibility for them all on Meredith was unacceptable. And people who make excuses as to why it's okay probably aren't big on people with very strict boundaries around themselves.

Every time a reminder popped up? Meredith's fault. Meredith wanted to sell HER OWN house, because the memory was too much? Should have spoken to Amelia first for permission. To Amelia, Meredith was wholly responsible for shouldering Amelia's grief first and foremost, and she made sure to let her know that at every turn. I cannot believe it took Meredith being cornered while having CPTSD flashbacks to finally lose it at her.

Tl;dr:

They were not "equally wrong". Meredith shouldered and moved through her own grief, and her children's grief. Amelia expected Meredith to carry hers.

Everyone Who’s Happy About the Coming Exits

Going to warn everyone now I kinda ranted a bit.

Look I don’t like Owen or Teddy (or their relationship I think it’s weird) but I do think Owen has improved while Teddy should have stayed in Germany she sucks now but… let’s be real Kevin McKidd is one of the show’s best actors and directors. Do people really think he’s going to come back on a regular basis? That’s totally unrealistic! He’s already starting to move on! There’s a Highlander reboot happening and he’s in that, he stating his own production company dude’s already busy! Also sounds like he wants to move back at least part time to Scotland. I don’t see him moving there full time since he has 2 young kids plus 2 older who are living in LA (he also has some really cute and funny things with his oldest daughter Iona). Could he come back to direct an episode or two before the show ends? Yea but no way in hell it’ll be able to do as regularly as he has been. Looking at his IMDB page he’s been directing 3-4 episodes a season he won’t be able to. Also pretty sure it’s cheaper for the show to hire directors who are on the show/work for the same network than it is to hire someone who doesn’t have a contract. Chances are Debby Allen, Chanra Wilson and Kevin McKidd all have directing as part of their contracts. No Owen=No Kevin. You hate Owen but like I said Kevin’s directing is going to be missed. Not everyone knows it yet.
