Games that involve exploring a place after something has happened

Im looking for a specific kind of game that I can’t find a category for. Something like Bioshock or Prey, where you’re mainly in a place after something horrible has happened/is actively happening, and there’s little stories about the location and people who were there. Bonus points if there’s a section before everything goes wrong as well. I do know that they’re immersive sims, but this is a very specific concept that isn’t always in that category.

Other examples I’ve played:

Still Wakes the Deep

System Shock

Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss

Tacoma

Abiotic Factor

Half Life

I want the multiplayer and community of a MMO, but without the gameplay of a MMO. What should I play?

So I love creating ny own character and dressing them up how I want. I love getting involved with a huge world. And I really want to play with others, finding my place and community among them, like a great guild I belong in. As far as I know, I want a MMO, since there aren't other genres that do that.

Problem is, I tried all the MMOs I could and just don't mesh with the actual gameplay. Tab target combat doesn't feel fun to me, especially when I need to follow a hotbar rotation, which kills the chances of games like GW2, FF14, and WoW. Just being stupidly OP because of high numbers also bores me immensely, which kills the chances of Warframe. And I don't see the appeal in having to grind for the "correct" endgame armor to bring on a mission, so ESO isn't quite fitting for me.

I used to be a Destiny player, but enjoyed it more when you COULDN'T melt everything on a patrol or strike with ease. But back when I could just bring what gear I liked but served its purpose for the encounters, I would have so much fun with the mobility and gunplay. Unfortunate that the game leaned away from that. Otherwise, I LOVE Monster Hunter combat and how you can build for your playstyle instead of meta. It just doesn't have that certain something to make it feel like a possible virtual third place or community, like a MMO would. It does way better than games like DRG and Helldivers 2 (games with fun gameplay, but even less community feeling in game. Also just not a fan of either world), but not quite enough, especially with new content not happening till the expansion.

Is there anything I should play? Anything people with similar tastes are playing just to tide them over at least?

First Person Dungeon Crawler Recommendations?

Heya reader! I'm getting that reclusive itch to shut myself away and play some specific dungeon crawlers. I'm mainly on PC or Steamdeck now, but I have access to Playstations 1 to 4 and I'm not against emulating either.

I love love love SMT Strange Journey, I have the REDUX in physical too. I've also played SMT Soul Hackers. That prompted me to go looking for more games like that and I ended up on the Etrian Odyssey games. Didn't mind them so much as a kid but now as a more or less 30 yo person I'm not into playing as anime kids that are barely dressed.

I'm not bothered by games that have sexual natures in regards to growing relationships and natural happening but purely sexual content games I have absolutely zero interest in

Can you guys help me out?

-Enjoyed:

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers

-On my radar but havent played/decided:

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi

Zanki Zero: Last Beginning

-No for one reason or another:

Etrian Odyssey games

Labyrinth of Refrain, Coven of Dusk

Thanks for your time

Need more single player FPS campaign games on PC

I've been searching high and low for really good FPS campaigns. I mostly play single-player games, and older games are absolutely fine as long as they are still digitally available on PC. Any genre will do! Here are the games I've already played:

Metro 2033, Last Light and Exodus

Dying Light 1, 2, and The Beast

Titanfall 2

Original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy starting from 2007 (and the Remasters as well)

Half-Life 1 and 2

Bioshock series

Halo 1-4

Crysis 1, 2 and 3

Battlefield 3, 4, 5, and 1

Cyberpunk 2077

Fallout 3 and 4

Far Cry 3, 4, and Primal

What games will scratch the same itch that Horizon Zero Dawn (and HFW) did?

I got HZD day one. It was an experience I won't forget, the world is breathtaking, story among the best I've seen, combat is some of the most fun I've ever had in a game... but I've never really found a game that is similar in terms of feel, combat and such. It feels unique to that game only. I hope you can give me a game that:
- Will run smoothly on a Ryzen 5 5600, Arc B580, 32GB RAM
- Has a good story
- Feels similar to HZD in terms of mechanics, or the mechanics felt great to you if you enjoyed the mechanics of HZD
I seriously hope that there is something out there that fits those criteria

I need a game to grind

The last game that kept me coming back over and over again was Zelda: BOTW. I almost got there with RDR2 (my favorite game, but it didn't scratch the itch). And I love Chivalry 2 (most captivated I've been for years).

I need a game that will have me itching to get on. I want a game that has tons of exploration, cool looking and feeling loot, and a good storyline (I also love the satisfying feeling of grinding for loot). I don't care how niche it is, I'll try it. I do enjoy mmos (I have 200 hours on LotRO, and quite a bit of time of Albion.)

I would prefer medieval and magic type games (I've tried warframe/Destiny 2, they're alright but once again they don't scratch that itch). Please help me.

Also I don't to pay more than 100 bucks.

Games that I've tried to save you from suggesting something I've already played:
Elden Ring
Skyrim
Zelda: TOTK
OSRS + Runescape (I do enjoy this but I cbs paying the sub)
PoE
Terraria (I love this game although I've never finished it, played the early game like 100 times)
Minecraft (same problem as above)
GTAV
Sea of Thieves

I haven't played a Resident Evil game since Resident Evil Directors Cut on PS1. Which would be best to get in to the series now?

I dont really like jumpscares in games so preferably one that doesn't rely heavily on that. I do like atmospheric games and happier if it's sort of slower paced rather than all out action. Also preferably nothing too hard because I'm generally not very good at games despite enjoying them so much so something where I just die repeatedly I end up turning off and being reluctant to go back to.

Maybe I'm ruling out most games here I don't know. I've just realised Resident Evil seems to be one of the biggest most well loved game series and its probably pretty strange I've never got round to playing them.

Working on a Greek island for the season, what Switch 2 games should I get?

Hey everyone,

I’m going to be working on a Greek island for around 5 months and I’m bringing my Switch 2 with me. I’d love some game recommendations to help pass the time during the season.

I got zelda TOTK few days ago.

I’m open to anything really, but especially:

  • games I can play in short sessions after work
  • relaxing games
  • addictive single-player games
  • anything great for handheld mode

What would you recommend and why?

Thanks!

Burned out/stress stopping me from wanting to play video games

When I was in my collage apartment I spent so much time playing video games, nearly all day.

Now I went back to parents house and I can't bring myself to play. It's like the desire itself is gone, but I want to want to play.

When I was younger I was very scared when I got older I'd stop playing video games, and this isn't exactly what's happening but it feels a bit close.

With that being said, any games that I would still want to play at this situation? My usual gaming is first person games, like L4D2, Overwatch, Mordhau, and similar games.

I'm thinking of games you think you would play if you were burned out or stressed out.

Looking for games with similar naval combat to AC4 Black Flag

Looking for a game with naval combat similar to AC4 Black Flag. Stuff like boarding and fighting with my character, fun ship to ship combat. PvE focus is preferred, but some PvP is tolerable.

On a side note, I do love sandboxes that allow me to build with a lot of creativity. If there is a game that also has sandbox building on top of the primary AC4 naval combat, that would be awesome.

Hopefully asking for games similar to a pirate game doesn't violate the no piracy rule

Any Gameboy games with freedom like Pokemon Emerald?

After beating the game I can do contests, the pokedex, battle frontier, secret bases, etc.

Anything like that on GB, GBC or GBA?

Getting a new computer soon, I need something to wow me.

Basically, my whole pc journey has been one 4gb ram integrated graphics thinkpad potato. Now, I'm getting something good. Something you can actually game on. I'm looking for a game that'll wow me and actually feel awesome on a good pc.

Also, I'd prefer a first-person shooter, as most genres are perfectly playable on console, but FPS's just aren't the same.

Looking for a co-op game to play with a friend with native controller support.

Some further requirements: Must be Steam or their own launcher I would like to not buy games through xbox or playstation im trying to get away from doing that. In addition if Push comes to shove I can always play on my nicer pc but i'm looking for games I can play on my budget build levno thinkcenter it has a radeon rx 6400 i've been able to push it play things like shape of dreams but with some compromises on graphics obviously. I like sandboxes and being able to play for longer do to the game not being structured with a clear ceiling. Think like MC or Astroneer. However I love other things too like lately road to vostok has me in a chokehold. My friend on the other hand is a bit more of a generalist than me.

Just honestly give me your best pitches for a new game to play thanks in advance!

Looking for jrpg or korean games with character creator

I always wanted to find a good asian rpg with character creator instead of an already existing character. For example games like Neverwinter nights or Baldur's gate allow you to make it your own adventure but most jrpgs I have tried have an already pre existing character. Personally I would love something closer to dnd games but with an asian/anime coat over it.

Something chill and forest-y?

I've been playing ACNH since it came out, with my island being pretty nature and wild themed. Plus I love the trailers for Croakwood. My birthday is coming up so my family wants me to pick gifts and im trying to maybe find a new game for my wishlist. Something cozy, nature themed or that has the potential to be nature themed. Been kind of hard to find myself since all the new cozy games talked about right now are the ones riddled with controversy.
