Customers really do say the most unhinged things. What's your best "I need flowers for... a vibe" story?

Had someone describe their wedding palette as if autumn had anxiety. Somehow nailed it. Now I use it as a personal challenge

Share your wildest brief - and whether you pulled it off.

A wild variety of flowers…..

This is my first year where I’m apart of a florist shop during spring….. and luckily i am part of a beautiful shop that has done nothing but grown my love for not only being a florists but the flowers and plants and nature.

In my latest arrangement I was given a beautiful array of flowers to play with.

•Rose Statice

•Lilac

•Woolly Blue Curls

• Purple Hellebores

•Sumac

• Wild Sage

•Moab Roses.

It’s a bit wild looking but the smell of it alone makes it to die for!!!

Thought I would share

Why don’t florists do gradual discounts?

thanks to everyone that answered my previous post about florist waste and loss of revenue. And so the answer i understood was that at the end of the week a lot of florists, give away their flowers that they wouldn’t sell next week or sell them at a crazy discount like half price. So I was wondering why not do like a gradual discount? like if you know a bouquet on Monday will for sure go bad on next Monday why not do like a 20% off on Thursday then 30% on Saturday then 50% off Sunday to minimize losses?

One thing I think I might be missing though is demand timing. Like, a bouquet that hasn’t sold by Thursday might still sell Friday morning at full price just because someone walks in and likes it.

The other reason I thought of is that’s it’s just way too big a hassle to keep track of all that, especially for a smaller business that’s already juggling so many different things.

I’m guessing I might be misunderstanding something about how florists actually manage pricing and stock day-to-day.

Thank you.

It was beautiful day of my life💖

"I'm Sam. This picture is from my birthday. My very good friend gave me a very beautiful bouquet of pink flowers. I was sitting in a nice cafe. The coffee is very good. I'm having a great day, I'm really grateful."✨💕

What would cause peonies to do this?

We just knife cut them in warm water and put them in the cooler because they were blowing quickly. I’ve never seen coral charms do this before. It’s almost ask if they’ve been coated in resin. They’re really stiff and wrinkly.

I was raised in a florist - today was my first time actually designing

Be nice…they didn’t have much in the cooler! I did a trial run today at a local florist. I thought I’d be a gopher / manual labor, but then they asked me to throw something together. I grew up in a florist and my mom is a pro so I vaguelyyyy know what I’m doing. What do y’all think?

NOTE: I took the leaves off the stems after I took the photo - I totally forgot before lol

Floristry class bouquets

Took a 1-2-1 floristry class today and made some bouquets for the first time ever! Hoping to work as a florist in the long run, but starting out by freelancing and making arrangements for friends and family. I really love greenery, foliage, and texture so those are my focuses 🌿

What to do with tulips.

Hello. I'm not any kind of flower professional but sometimes I get flowers for my home and usually I can figure out something that is aesthically pleasing. But today I got tulips and they weren't blooming and had lots of green leaves covering the blooms. I googled what to do with them and the consensus seems to be to remove most of the green parts. I tried to do that but while the top parts came off, the bottom of the stems didn't quite let me strip them so the bottoms of the stems are thicker than the tops. Is that normal or should I have peeled the bottoms more? I cut the stems at a 45 degree angle and put a few ice cubes in the bottom of the vase. Tomorrow I plan to poke a hole with a pin under each flower. Did I do what I should have? Here is the stems kinda showing what I mean about the uneven stripping and what they look like right now in their vase

What are these type of rose called?

I received it from a friend for my graduation last year, and I really want to know what kind of roses these are. I asked ChatGPT and Google with an image, but couldn't find it. Please help me!

I've been experimenting with floral design lately. I'm thinking about going to school to become a florist; I enjoy it so much! Do you have any tips to improve my work? I'd love to learn more!

My most requested design style Bouquet

I wanted to share a bridal Bouquet I recently made - (apologies for one of the images being super cropped, didn’t want to post the couples face on here)

I’ve gotten over 20 requests for this design style in the last 2 weeks.

While it’s super beautiful and I love making - only 2 brides have booked. Unfortunately this bouquet is on the higher end. I get soooo happy when I get inquiries and then when I tell them the price range, I get ghosted :( full disclosure- this was $402 + tax to make. (This includes my makeup, labor, materials)

I’ve had brides try to negotiate to make this for $150 :( like I legit can’t… 1 large cym stem costs me $44… the anthuriums are $13 each…

Anyways, hope you guys like it!

Do wildflower bouquets last less time?

Hi florists! I had a question regarding “wildflower style” bouquets. I have a favorite shoppe that does gorgeous arrangements and my husband and family like to gift me bouquets periodically. The only problem is I can never get them to last that long. My sister sent me an arrangement on Saturday (I received it in the afternoon) and by this morning part of them are looking half on their way out. I didn’t trim them yesterday as I’ve been not well so maybe that didn’t help? I typically wait 1-2 days to trim them the 1st time.

Is the bouquet life for wildflowers just shorter or do I need to be doing a fresh cut daily? Also, I’ve had this issue with no sun and some sun hitting the arrangement. I typically spritz with water and normally do a trim every other day. I also do the water elixir they recommend when I give a fresh cut.

Any tips would be helpful because I simply adore their bouquets however they’re not cheap and I don’t love (especially my husband) spending a huge amount for something that lasts 2/3 days. 😩

Update: photo is below. Idk why it won’t let me add to post.

Business Casual as a florist?

Hey y’all - I’ve worked in a florist all my life doing everything but making the flowers. My mom was a florist and I grew up in the shop. Now, at 21, I’m going for a trial day at a local florist. I asked what I should wear and the owner said business casual - which seems strange for a florist?

I know I’m going to be washing buckets, cleaning, moving stuff and everything else. Just a lot of manual labor.

What can I wear that is good for that and is somehow business casual??

Practicing at home

I find it easier to start by arranging in my hand like a bouquet. But then I feel like my vases end up too dense. Im aware you should start with a grid/greenery but for some reason I go blank and don’t know how to keep going, cut the right lengths, or know where/how to place the rest of my blooms, and I then I get so frustrated. Would love any feedback or tips. Thanks!

Mother's Day prep

Hi folks! I mostly browse this sub, but thought I'd share a bit and ask what you all are doing to prep for the busiest week of the year! I always try to learn another way to make processes smoother and more "make ahead friendly" each year.

Please share how you're prepping to make life easier in your shop this year! Read on below to see what we're doing in our shop in Alberta Canada.

The photos attached are our mday lineup: available in 3 colourways: pinks, purples, and bright spring. Recipes are ready to print for quick reference, and represent options in our 4 main price points: 75, 100, 125, 175. We'll use these recipes as wrapped and tied bouquets as well as vase arrangements.

All containers using foam are counted out, foamed and taped.

Our greens just arrived and we will be greening this week.

Add-ons like chocolate and candy are in position on display.

We have a "packing station" staging area prepped with all necessary materials.

We are running an ad campaign on our local radio station with the tagline "thoughtful doesn't have to be complicated"

We offer complete gifting solutions through "bunch boxes"; a predesigned, themed box containing florals and a few gift able items in 3 sizes.

Red Arrangement

Made some red foam arrangments for an wedding charcuterie table. Theme was red and gold, should I have added gold details? I tent to stray away from anything that looks too fake. So gold sprayed leaves and all are not my forte.
