Distance feeder fishing/casting

So this is more of a specialised question. I've been really getting into feeder fishing, but what I'm struggling slightly with snapping the top eye off my 2oz tip in 2 successive trips. Fishing 8lb braid to a 10lb shock leader on a Preston horizon feeder. I should point out I only have this issue fishing cage feeder. Method is not a concern (likely because the hooklink is in the groundbait/feeder)

I've been trying to improve my casting technique, watching the pro's on YT. Andy May, Mick Vials, Steve Ringer, Lee Kerry etc, and I just can't understand how they bring the feeder, hooklink etc from in front of them to behind, to an amazingly accurate cast, clobbering the clip without causing the same issue.

I wonder if I'm missing something obvious. I've gone back to tilting the rod slightly to get the feeder behind, then straightening up, however I've found this impacts accuracy.

Any specialised feeder anglers out there with an answer?

The year is 2076..... the world has gone to pot and you are only allowed to fish one way😮

Recently I was out on a fishing trip, pondering about life and hypothetical questions that matter - Serious stuff like what if the first person to discover colour blindness was actually colour blind and what we all know is all wrong; you know those types of questions 🤣

And then it came to me, eyes staring steely at the rod tips waiting for a rattle, legs ready to move quickly if the reel starts screaming.

The year is 2076, the Government have outlawed individuals from owning more than 1 rod and reel and worse still ... only allow 1 type method of fishing forever

punishment for those caught, severe .... you must watch the rod have a car door shut on the rod repeatedly until it becomes dust 😮

So yes serious stuff and consequences.

My question is ; what would you do?

Love to hear what you all think and also if anyone else goes into deep thought while fishing haha

Seeking recs for first timers looking to catch and eat.

Hi all,

American with redneck tendencies looking for somewhere I can go to catch my dinner. I’ve fished in the Florida deep sea and use to go crawfishing as a kid. I live Southeast London but really wanna have a trip out.

I’m willing to eat coarse fish, but may prefer getting out to sea for fishing there.

I know I need to get my license, but are there any places anyone recommends that are within 2-3 hrs from London where I can catch food to eat?

I caught this interesting mirror carp today. Would it be considered a ghost carp? Looks like an old boy.

Fishing Knife Legality for Coastal Fishing

I know that this is not the best place for accurate legal advice, but is it generally ok to have a short cooking knife ( < 3 inch sharpened edge to point ) for dispatching fish (mackerel) or will i need to have a knife which has it's tip fold into it's handle?

Wild trout in the Scottish highlands

Hiked into a remote spot in the Highlands for brown trout and actually had a good day for once, caught a fair few.

Didn’t see any adders this time, but I’ve seen them here before so it’s always in the back of your mind walking through the grass.

Video here if you want to see the area: Scottish Highlands | Hike and Fish | Brown Trout

Can’t wait to fish more places in the highlands this year!

north wales spots

a couple mates and I are planning a trip to north Wales for a hiking trip to Snowdon in late may. we will be staying close to Y Felinheli. I was hoping to do a bit of fishing, both fresh and salt water. i tried looking for some good shore lines to fish which were similar to the image attached but it all just seemed like docks and private land.

does anyone know of any spots that are similar to the image and close to the town or at least a good spot for wrasse, base or pollock?.

thank you

btw here is the link to the video for the image: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCyGirRaczw

Volunteer/Apprentice shipping opportunities

25M looking for a career change and shipping caught my interest. Figured a small fishing venture could be a good place to start and test the waters(?) Wondered if anyone knew of any opportunities to get into the industry and/or get some crucial experience. Sorry if this has been asked before.

PB Cornish mainland Wrasse for me last week

This isn't my true PB Ballan, as I had a few larger specimens in the scilly's a couple of years ago.

However, this is my biggest shore caught Ballan from the Cornish mainland coast.

I have fished this area many times before, but always on ultra light LRF gear. 4lb line, 0.5-3g rated rod, 1000 size reel and small artifical worm and grub lures. The biggest fish I've produced from here on LRF gear is about 1.5lb.

This session, I took my bass rod and a handful of dying lugworm I had leftover and didn't want to bin. Firstly for the stench and secondly for value for money.. my plan was to cast them into the surf on a small snooded dropshot rig for a possible flatfish or bass on some small 1/0 mustad circles whilst I played around with the LRF gear in the meantime.

Not alot was happening on the artificials in the gully I was in. Nothing was hitting the lugworm at the mouth of the gully abit further into the surf either. I decided to switch things up and see if placing a heavily baited lugworm hook where I'd been dangling the artificials would make any difference.

The minute the dropshot hit the bottom I was in. It was a fish a drop for a good hour or so, which was surprising as I did try a couple of other areas thinking I was going to exhaust the small gully I kept producing fish from. Wrong! every other ledge was quiet, I quickly returned back to the old faithful and was back in again.

Finally after going through a lot of fish in the 0.5-2.5lb, the donkey of the gully came and smashed it. I missed a previous hit from him as he snatched the worm but took off to the top of the gully and didnt hook up. I was very pleased to end the day with him in hand!!

New to fishing piers in UK

Hello! So basically I am trying to introduce myself to sea fishing in UK. I’m from Finland where I’ve always fished, however our sea over there is nothing like the sea here. We basically have no tide and way less species of fish to catch. My question is, what are the basic parameters that an experienced fisherman in England does regarding weather and tides? Few times I’vs just gone to the pier and there will be a local saying that its probably not the best tide for fishing. Also, a lot of people here seem to use bait. I am more used to just casting lures. My ”local spots” would be Middlesbrough, Sunderland and this coastal area. Would you just keep going to the piers or are there other interesting options for finding deep enough spots that you can cast from the shore to? I would like to catch a bass, so far I have caught a mackerel but tips for any fish are appreciated.

Hi everyone. Caught these two on Saturday. Is one an ide and one a bream?

I’m 43 and started fishing last November for the first time since I was 12. Bought a £90 coarse fishing kit off eBay and a £35 feeder rod from angling direct and loving it. Caught my first ever tench on Saturday too. Been wanting one since I was 10 lol
