third valve stuck, looks like the metal scrapes in the little nook, help?

edit: [PROBLEM SOLVED] sorry it took a sec to turn, it’s hard to film with one hand lol

this is an old hand me down from my school, it’s a yamaha yep321 and it’s got plenty of imperfections. This one in particular seems to get stuck at only the notched area (i’ve twisted and turned it every which way before and there were not issues in the main part) How can I fix this?

Do we need something better?

My daughter is a 6 year, 3 valve Baritone player moving on to college in the fall. She is considering taking part in a non graded program the University has, I guess you could consider it and equivalent to "club' level sports. She has the impression that she would need a 4 valve and that her instrument (Jupitor) is not a quality enough instrument. Is that the case? From my recollection of band, Jupitor is a decent mid level name. And if we should be upgrading what brand should I be looking at that is not ridiculously pricey considering this is going to be basically a voluntary, extra curricular program,. Thanks in advance.

Is the Flugelbone / Marching Trombone the right fit for me?

Hi, right now, I'm considering buying a used Flugelbone / Marching Trombone off a second-hand seller. I'm a big fan of it's sound, and as a euphonium player, am interested in its more brash tone and possibly easier range. Also, the portability and small form factor make it attractive for me, with it being easier to carry around and store in my college.

I'm mainly a soloist, but have been getting into doing jazz and pep/marching band lately. Do ya'll think it would be a good buy for me?

I play a Thomann superior, nice sound good quality. But always after playing for an hour of more, it feels like I am blowing against a wall. All valves are clear, no water in the tubes.
I cant figure it out what is wrong. But I can’t get a good airflow. Idea what i’m doing wrong of where to look at on the euphonium?

For the record, I was playing bes bass for 30 of so years untill january 2025.

Is there any different between a 4 valves Euphonium vs a 3 valves one?

I don't really have anything to add besides having to say sorry for my bad English.

I'm just curious about, y'know, a four valved euph because I play a three-valved one. Is there any benefit or so or are they just the same with one of them having four instead of three?

Marching Euphonium

Okay everybody, I’m a trombonist going into my sophomore year. We’re having to learn baritone or euphonium. I’m doing euphonium because I love euph, the boys(my friends I mean)play euph, and they needed volunteers. I love this thing. But I don’t know what I need to do to start preparing to march with it. Any tips? The video is to show me rn with the euph

Fundamental Practice Recommendations?

Hi!

I am preparing for my senior recital in college. I have 6 months to prepare, and I am planning on performing Harlequin on my recital, as this will by far be the most technically challenging piece on my recital, what fundamentals can I practice every day until the piece arrives that would set me up for success. I am also looking for things to add to my practice routine in general because my practice has gotten stale.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

I’m putting together a list of music to pick from for my senior recital this coming year. I want it to be focused on the more standard/classic literature of the instrument; i.e. the Horovitz Concerto, Pantomime, etc. I wanted to get other people’s input, let me know what I should add! Thank you!

I'm sure we've all gotten that question many times, but it's usually from folks who really aren't familiar with many musical instruments. OTOH, it's sort of shocking when someone who should know, doesn't!

A local branch of a national chain of music stores held an instrument showcase, petting zoo, or whatever you want to call it today. I went in and registered, and the salesman asked what I was interested in, and I said "Euphoniums". He said they didn't have any to try, so I asked what were those four instruments over on that table. "Oh, they're mellophones." I said "No, they look like euphoniums." He said "I think they're mellophones." I walked over, and they were indeed euphoniums. (You would think that someone who works in a music store like that would know the difference........).

They had 4-valve compensating Eastman, Shires, & Yamaha Neo, as well as a Yamaha 321. I took the Eastman back to a practice room (really too small for a euphonium) and played it some. It was 'OK', but it didn't scream "TAKE ME HOME!" (and but neither did the Shires or the Yamaha Neo). When I walked out to the display tables, and different salesman asked "How did you like that baritone?". I replied that it was a euphonium, not a baritone. "What's the difference?" So I had to explain it.

You would think that salesmen who are supposedly trying to sell instruments would at least have a basic understanding of the instruments they're supposed to be selling.

Fortunately, there was no hard sell trying to get me to take one home (but I fully expect a phone call in a couple of days).

My triple tongue on a single is pretty good, I have speed and clarity. But when I move between pitches, also when when I double tongue same or different pitches, my tone sounds what I would describe as, “quacky”, it just doesn’t sound as clear as when I single tongue. Is there any exercise or tips to improve this?

Recently, my band director randomly came up to me and asked me to teach a freshman violin player (I'll refer to them as S (for student)) how to play euphonium. It is worth noting that S was with my BD when they asked (I didn't feel as if I could refuse, that was a mistake and I can't go back on my word now). I'm a sophmore as well as the only euphonium at my school. This is not my job, I'm still learning myself, and I've never had to teach someone how to play before. My BD has not offered assistance since. The only thing he's explicitly told me to do is "go through the blue book" (pictured above). Since then, it came to light that S wants to join band (specifically marching band, on euph, of course) next year and my BD is moving schools. Now I have to bring a string player to an appropriate playing ability on a wind instrument, without the support of a band director. I've been using the instruction book available in the band room (pictured above) as per my BD's instructions, but I find that it assumes a basic ability to play (something S lacks, as they're a string player with no prior wind experience, which isn't their fault). I have decided to continue teaching them until the end of the school year, but after that, they're on their own. For the time being, I'm teaching at the best of my ability, which quite frankly isn't enough for them to grow and improve. Does anyone have tips, either for teaching or what comes next?

Can any pros upload a clip of them playing Festive Overture 8-10? Really want to hear this at tempo. I’ve reliably got those high A flats down but can’t quite seem to speed it up enough.

I've been playing on what I assume is a chinese stencil rotary valve baritone horn (brand is Berkeley) for the longest time now since I don't really have the money or need to get a full on professional horn but I'm seeing a few Euphoniums on facebook marketplace rn priced somewhat similarly that I'm a bit interested in getting.

Option 1 is a Boston 4 valve Euph
It's priced at roughly $553
I understand that there was a Boston Musical Instrument Company in the past that doesn't actually exist anymore, so I'm assuming this is just a chinese stencil brand Euph.

Option 2 is a Golden Scarab 4 valve Euph
It's priced at roughly $683
This is another brand that I'm assuming is a chinese stencil instrument since I can't find much about the it. They also advertised it as a 4 valve model but the only photo they uploaded on facebook is the 3 valve model, so this one's also kinda sus.

Option 3 is a Yamaha YEP-201
It's priced at roughly $650
I lose the fourth valve, but it's a much more reliable brand

I don't think any of the models are compensating, but I don't think I'd be able to afford a compensating euph anytime in the near future anyways, so I think they'd be decent enough upgrades maybe.

Which option do you guys think would be the best, or am I better off just sticking to my baritone until I have the money in the far future to buy something actually decent?

Added context is that I'm from the Philippines and finding any euphoniums at all is quite difficult here. None of the music stores really ever sell em and I know most professionals either rely on these second hand imports or travel all the way to Hong Kong or Japan to buy their instruments.

I’ve got a concert coming up that I have some decently high notes in the pieces(I play in TC). And I was just wondering if you guys had any tips one how to make my high notes sound better. I’m not struggling to hit them just they sound odd.
