Escape room London - 8 people

Looking for an escape room for a colleagues leaving do. I have found 2 with capacity for 8 people: IAMAI and Battle for Britain. Are either recommended for such a big group, or would we be better of separating into two groups of 4 doing different rooms?

Escape room closed

So the company that I built escape rooms for went out of business. I am sitting on a bunch of controllers and equipment from Fright Props. Anyone here know where I can get trios of this stuff? eBay doesn’t seem to be the place and locally is a bust. TIA.

Build help needed

Hi y’all!

I have an idea for a theme that I’ve pitched to my friends and they all think it’s great and has a lot of potential. The issue is, I don’t have the skills or experience to design and build it alone. I’m hoping someone of you have ideas for me.

Originally, I wanted to partner with an acquaintance, but they aren’t available.

Thanks in advance

I'm a physical escape room designer based in Taiwan.

I built a 70-minute experience where players are told only one thing at the beginning:

they are about to meet a friend.

Then something happens, and they begin to believe they are in a war.

They solve puzzles, follow instructions, and try to survive.

Only at the very end do they realize —

they were never where they thought they were.

This experience exists physically in Taiwan,

and for most people, it's not something they will ever be able to experience in person.

I recently documented it because its future is uncertain,

and it may not exist for much longer.

I'm not really here to promote it like a product.

I'm just trying to figure out —

does something like this still matter,

even if you can never actually experience it yourself?

I think escape rooms are evolving past the plot having to be about escaping a room - they could be about finding treasure or a load of other things that involve solving puzzles and staying in more or less one room.

I've also seen these booklets that send you round a city solving puzzles that involve looking at the architecture and spotting things, and are linked into a story involving the cities history. These are very good, and clearly evolved out of escape rooms without the rooms or the escaping.

Is there anything else you've seen that has evolved out of escape rooms?

r/Escaperooms Weekly Promotion/recommendation thread

Please use this thread to promote or recommend Escape Rooms/Games (whether IRL or online). As usual, please don't just put a link as your entire post. Make sure to elaborate with your thoughts or design philosophies. Writing the names of the room/game in **bold** is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names.

Please also make sure to use spoiler tags if you're posting anything about a room or game that might significantly hurt the experience of others that haven't played the game yet (no matter how old or new the game is).

LA’s Quest Rooms has completely shut down

Just thought I’d post this in a place where anyone who has experienced the magic of LA’s Quest Rooms can mourn together:( I was trying to book and saw it wasn’t possible, so I checked their Instagram and saw they had closed their doors about a week ago. I am heartbroken! Red Giant and Perfumer were two of my and my partner’s favorite rooms of all time. We noticed before the announcement that their rooms were extremely expensive all of a sudden, so it seems they were struggling. I’m sad we never had a chance to do every single one of their rooms, although I feel lucky we did many. I was always curious about Minotaur, although my health never permitted me to do that one. I’d be down to hear any experiences with it, as I guess spoilers don’t matter anymore.

Well wishes to everyone who created these amazing rooms and ran them!

1 Player Escape Rooms

Hello! I've only ever done escape rooms with my husband (and occasionally with our kids as well), but I am going to be in Orlando for a week for a conference and was curious if anyone had recommendations for a room that I could tackle solo. When we are working together, we are fairly advanced and I know that I perform well on my own also, but I honestly don't even know if "solo escape rooms" are a thing to begin with.

So... does anyone have a recommendation in Orlando? Is this even a thing? And, for the sake of discussion, does anyone have any solo experience (outside of Orlando) that you could share?

Thanks!

Boston area date night suggestion?

We’ve been taking our kids to a lot of escape rooms lately and have had a blast… I’ve seen some discussion about kids on here a few times, we always pay to make sure we’re doing a private room. So they can enjoy, and their enjoyment doesn’t impede others.

That being said, his birthday and Father’s Day are coming up and I’d love to surprise him with a date night room for just us! Any suggestions for adults?? We’ve also had to avoid anything too “scary” or adult because of the cherubs so - I just want the best and most fun for us!

I’ve done a lot of research and reading - I’m wondering if the physical challenge ones or there’s like a “if I could only do one room ever this is the one I’d do” suggestion. Because date nights are super hard to come by and we may realistically only get to do one on our own for a long time!

Building a Spy-Themed Electronic Escape Case — Looking for Feedback on Gameplay, Storyline & 60-Minute Playtime

Hey everyone,

I’m currently building a fully physical/electronic spy-themed escape case for 2–3 players and I’d love some feedback from people who enjoy escape rooms, puzzle design, Arduino projects, or immersive game experiences.

The idea is that players discover a hostile spy briefcase containing unstable material. They have 60 minutes to activate, stabilize, and eventually deactivate the case before it “explodes.”

What I’d love feedback on:

Gameplay / Puzzle design

 • Does the puzzle progression make sense?
 • Are there puzzles that feel too disconnected from the theme?
 • Are there puzzles that sound frustrating or unclear?
 • Is there enough variety between logic, observation, audio, and physical interaction?

Difficulty / Timing

 • Does this sound like enough content for 60 minutes for 2–3 players?
 • Does anything sound too easy or too difficult?
 • Are there sections where players could bottleneck badly?

Story / Immersion

 • Does the spy/bomb-defusal theme come across well?
 • Any ideas for making the story feel more cinematic or emotionally engaging?
 • Any opportunities for stronger tension or pacing?

Tech / Interaction

 • Which puzzle sounds the coolest?
 • Which one sounds weakest?
 • Any ideas for more satisfying physical interactions or “wow moments”?

Would love any honest feedback or suggestions before I start final assembly and programming 🙂

My script:

Spy Escape Case

3 levels: activation – stabilization – deactivation

Games are played and activated one by one; previous or later games are not active during a specific part of the storyline.

Text that appears on the OLED display is always accompanied by a typewriter sound, and for a voice memo the text only appears on the screen afterward.

Hints are always shown on the display with a short “pling-pling” sound.

After completing a level, a “ka-chung” sound always plays, possibly accompanied by a compartment opening.

Storyline – Technology / Hints

Activation chapter

Level A-1

Voicememo

“You are spies on an important mission. You have found an enemy spy case containing unstable material. You must gain access to the case of spy A6074 and neutralize it within 60 minutes before it explodes.”

OLED Display

“Press the button to replay the message.”

Explanation

After powering on, an MP3 voice memo plays. Once finished, text appears on the display with a typewriter sound and a countdown (60 min) starts on the seven-segment display. The countdown has a ticking bomb sound. Multiple badges of the same person with alter egos are hidden. The badges work via NFC and must be held near a reader. Only the badge of A6074 works.

Hint +2 min

“Is there a badge somewhere?”

Hint +4 min

“An ID belongs with a reader.”

Reaction

Flashing red LED changes to flashing orange. Compartment A opens with a “ka-chung” sound containing a UV lamp + Operator Log A (showing numbers 1–8 with corresponding Morse code and written in UV pen: ▲ = 2×●, ■ = ▲ + 10g), 4 patch cables, and a metal cooling plate.

Level A-2

OLED Display

“Warning: access circuit not synchronized. Position indexes deviate from protocol. Manual reconfiguration required.”

Explanation

5 rotary switches (7-segment) must be set to the correct combination based on the hint on the outside of the case (2-3-6-3-4).

Hint +2 min

“Check the outside of the case.”

Hint +4 min

“Use the rotary knobs.”

Stabilization level

Level B-3

Voicememo

“The case is activated, but the contents are unstable. Proceed carefully to stabilize the contents.”

OLED Display

“Temperature offset detected. Stabilize the core.”

Explanation

The thermistor sensor must be within the safe zone for 10 seconds. A neopixel ring shows: green = good, blue = too cold, red = too hot.

Hint +2 min

“Stabilize: within the green range for 10s.”

Hint +4 min

“Heat and cooling affect drift. Use hands/breath or the metal plate.”

Reaction

Compartment B opens with 9 (3×3) tokens with three symbols (▲ ● ■), each with different weights (20g, 40g, 50g), a keycard (with a # and diagonal X, I), and letter tiles (K L R N S F U I A E).

Level B-4

OLED Display

“Static balance not achieved. Select the correct elements until proper pressure is applied.”

Explanation

Operator Log A states: ▲ = 2×●, ■ = ▲ + 10g. Above the load cell, “150g” is written in UV ink. Players must place 1 triangle, 2 circles, and 1 square on the sensor. The LED bar gives feedback.

Hint +2 min

“Ratios are in Operator Log A.”

Hint +4 min

“Use UV light.”

Level B-5

Voicememo

Morse code beeps (1 sec between digits, 3 sec after every 2nd digit):

“…--” “-….” “.----” “....-” “..---” “…..” “--…” “---..”

OLED Display

“Warning! Power routes are broken, ensure no energy leakage.”

Explanation

There are 8 banana jacks numbered 1–8. Operator Log A shows numbers with Morse code. Players must decode the sequence and connect the jacks chronologically: 3-6, 1-4, 2-5, 7-8.

Hint +2 min

“Use the cables to connect the correct numbers.”

Hint +4 min

“Decode the Morse code and connect in the order you hear.”

Level B-6

Voicememo

“Set the correct frequency to reroute communication.”

OLED Display

Example sine wave on a grid.

Explanation

On a second OLED screen, players must recreate the sine wave using 3 potentiometers (frequency, amplitude, offset).

Hint +2 min

“Use the knobs and observe what happens.”

Hint +4 min

“Match frequency, amplitude, and offset to the example.”

Deactivation level

Level C-7

Voicememo

“The case is stabilized and connected. Act quickly to decode it before time runs out!”

OLED Display

BDQ*RIOTQOM%]NJXE%CR%Y@CO

Explanation

The keycard shows Roman numerals X, I, V (10, 1, 5) in a # format. On the keypad, players must enter: 10 # 1 # 5 # (XOR key) to decode the message. The text changes to: “The keyword is safe.”

Hint +2 min

“Check the keycard.”

Hint +4 min

“Enter the Roman numerals separated by #.”

Level C-8

Voicememo

“Failsafe active. Authorize with the decrypted word. Incorrect order triggers delay.”

OLED Display

“Place 5 letters in order. Incorrect = -30s.”

Explanation

Letter tiles K L U I S each contain a magnet with unique position/strength:

K = magnet bottom left

L = magnet top right

U = stronger magnet top right

I = stronger magnet bottom left

S = magnet top left

Other letters have no magnet. Using analog hall sensors, the system checks if the correct letters are placed correctly.

Hint +2 min

“What is a SAFE?”

Hint +4 min

“Translate it to Dutch.”

When correct the clock stops and victory sound will be played and players will be thanked for their help. When time runs out, the bomb will go off.

Toughest escape rooms in New England

Hi there.

For a summer activity, my friends and I are looking to do escape room challenges. In the past, we've done rooms at Granite State Escape in Manchester, NH and am considering a tougher room, and are willing to travel. What are the toughest escape rooms in New England?

The escape room I work for is developing a new room and asking me for a few new puzzles to put in as finishing touches.

The catch is that they don't want any more combo/pad locks and we don't really have an ability to wire anything new.

My brain is full of *clues*, but for the life of me, I can only come up with so many ways to keep something closed until a puzzle is solved (the way a lock would).

What are your favorite, non lock, non electrical, containers/closers?

Box with built in 5 digit combination lock? does it exist/is it DIY-able?

Greetings! Hoping to get some advice on this project:

I'm looking to build/find a treasure chest that has a built in combo lock. I'm envisioning the combination wheels are built into the body of the chest. The code to the lock is a 5 letter word that you figure out from previous clues. So far all I can find are the 5 letter Masterlock padlocks, and then security boxes with three letter combo locks. There are keypad security boxes with the full alphabet, but I don't trust those to survive outside. Does anyone have experience seeing these or making something like this? Is it even possible, or would it just be better to use one of those Masterlocks? The vision is to have a built-in combination lock so that the chest fits the theme of the scavenger hunt, as a commercially bought lock would break immersion. I'm willing to cannibalize such locks to build this, though I don't have any experience doing that.

Last ditch resort is to just use the 5 digit Masterlock, weather and patina it to fit the aesthetic. Any advice on other mechanisms would be much appreciated, though!!

I'm looking at making a drive from the baltimore area to Cedar Point park in Ohio. Are there any good escape rooms I should divert to along that general path? I was considering Seeking Sasquatch or one of the Enter the Imaginarium ones in Pittsburgh.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with designing an escape room experience built entirely around cards — something in the style of games like Unlock!, Deckscape, or Escape Tales — combined with a simple web app for additional interaction.

Recently, I’ve been trying to integrate AI into the design process (for puzzle generation, story building, and even creating card visuals). But I’ve run into a recurring challenge: AI tends to default to detective-style scenarios (investigations, evidence, crime scenes, etc.) whenever I mention “escape room.”

That’s not really what I’m aiming for.
What I want instead is a cohesive set of diverse puzzles — logic, codes, visual clues, etc. — all tightly connected to a central theme or narrative, without leaning into crime/investigation tropes. The goal is more about immersive storytelling and puzzle variety rather than solving a case.

I’ve noticed that getting useful results from AI requires very specific prompting and structuring — especially if I want:

•Puzzles that logically connect to each other and the story
•Thematic consistency across cards
•Visual assets that match the puzzle design
•Integration with a web app component

So I’m curious:
Has anyone here experimented with using AI to design escape room-style games (especially card-based ones)?

How do you guide the AI to stay within a specific theme and avoid unwanted tropes?

Any tips for structuring prompts or workflows to get better puzzle coherence?

Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any tools/methods you’ve found effective.

Thanks!

I am looking for a remote escape room for 7 people, preferably under an hour and not a lot of reading since some players will have English as a learned language

Any recommendations?

Anyone done ClueHQ as a remote group? So far that's the only one I've found that is reasonably priced for a group of 7.

I've never done a web-based escape room before, so I'm not sure how it will work. I'd love to hear your recommendations and insights into group online play!

Tia 🙂
