Box with built in 5 digit combination lock? does it exist/is it DIY-able?
Greetings! Hoping to get some advice on this project:
I'm looking to build/find a treasure chest that has a built in combo lock. I'm envisioning the combination wheels are built into the body of the chest. The code to the lock is a 5 letter word that you figure out from previous clues. So far all I can find are the 5 letter Masterlock padlocks, and then security boxes with three letter combo locks. There are keypad security boxes with the full alphabet, but I don't trust those to survive outside. Does anyone have experience seeing these or making something like this? Is it even possible, or would it just be better to use one of those Masterlocks? The vision is to have a built-in combination lock so that the chest fits the theme of the scavenger hunt, as a commercially bought lock would break immersion. I'm willing to cannibalize such locks to build this, though I don't have any experience doing that.
Last ditch resort is to just use the 5 digit Masterlock, weather and patina it to fit the aesthetic. Any advice on other mechanisms would be much appreciated, though!!
