[FOR HIRE] Character and concept artist

Sir Eardwulf was a low-born knight who rose up in King Leland’s court thanks to his skill and chivalrous bearing. Betrayed by those jealous of his perceived influence on the King, he appears before the party as rotting body holding his own head, with a spirit of green and blue mist merged with the corpse.

Just got Laid off

I got laid off at the start of this month and it started to hit me pretty hard, the reality that I no longer have my job that I really liked. It was my first out of college and they treated me so well, I didnt think they would've let me go but it happened, they said they no longer can afford a concept artist.

I worked at a major Roblox company for 4+ years and have been drawing super simple characters. I feel like I am behind compared to other artists in the industry and have been feeling super down about it. I know the industry is already struggling and I dont know where my portfolio would fit other than the Roblox world.

I am planning on starting a new portfolio for AA studios with fantasy style thats more realistic proportions and details, here are some of my work from my ex-job.

Any ideas and feedback appriciated

Golden Sprout

Hello everyone, I wanted to share the development of my project, which I have been working on for a year and a half. Now I have a concept ready for the residents who work on the farm, and I'm creating concepts for characters and props for them, and I'll be making environments soon. In the future, I see this project as a city-based survival game, like frost punk, where the player will create their own colony and make difficult early choices. I often post the development process on twitter, if you're interested: u/DmitryDalnev

Story: In the near future, in an isolated botanical laboratory, a group of scientists led by a talented bioengineer, Elena, tried to create a hybrid plant capable of prolonging human life.

However, a tragic oversight by the assistants led to a virus leak. Through contact with living beings, the virus develops, and its program begins to work for the preservation of humanity.

This is how the entire scientific city became infected, the virus decided to isolate humanity in order to save this group of people, and such a symbiosis was formed, people take care of the virus, and the virus regulates people. This is how an entire colony began to develop on the ruins of the laboratory.

Brothers concept character design, personal film project

Hi, I'd like to share this character I created for my personal project.
He's part of the story of the travelers; they'll find him along the way, and he'll guide them to his brother and the monks of the planet.
I've always loved science fiction, and I'm finally doing something that's truly my own.

Asked for feedback here a couple weeks back, here are the adjustments! Is it an improvement?

Mostly trying to address the fact that people couldn't tell he was a dragon hunter from looking at him, so most of the big changes were communicating that.

[OC] Shahrazad, Leader of the Scavenger Ring

Recent character design I did for a personal fantasy project.

Y'aaks are scavengers by nature, usually gathering and forming camps around old abandoned tech ruins.

Hope you guys like this gal.

Feeling burned out, or irrelevant in the industry

Hello!

Concept artist here. I have 3+ years of experience in the industry. I had the opportunity to work on series, films, videogames and even side gigs, for AAA companies, indies etc.

I am incredibly lucky to be currently working with a big client and on a huge project as a freelance concept artist, focused on environment, but regarding the art of my colleagues and other artists involved, im feeling really irrelevant.

To be honest, I have this impression since the two past years. When I ask for feedback and tips from leads, they say that « nothing to worry about ». But I have this feeling growing, and I feel I am currently stuck.

Also, I think I got overfed because of instagram, pinterest and other plateforms ; I feel drowned regarding the productivity and the level of other concept artist, sometimes younger than me, and sometimes I feels like it’s over. Friends and family think I’m close to burnout, but I’m not sure.

My contract ends in two weeks, and after taking  real break, I want to come back to basics ; studies, exercices, painfull but incredibly usefull exercices regarding concept art for environment.

Do you guys have/had the same feelings ? Do you have any recommendations or exercices ?

Thanks and sorry, english is not my main langage.

Full-body Mugshot Scan, 2162 (by me)

“Traxton Lam, freelance security officer and bounty hunter, current guest of our parole system. Early data lost to the Rupture, but claimed date of birth March Fourteen, 2125. Father unknown. Relocated to Neenach Climate Emergency Refugee Camp outside of Los Angeles in 2136, disappear from their rolls in 2149. Mother and younger brother succumbed to the flu of ‘51. This is where your record gets spotty; big gaps between legitimate employment, plenty of arrests and detentions, but no formal charges or convictions. A season hunting machines out the Empty in 2159, more spotty employment and then your arrest here in the Seattle Economic Bastion, 2162 on an immigration violation and possession of fraudulent residency documents.”

“I’m guessing you didn’t haul me over here to tell me you’re writing my biography.” I said, leaning back and crossing my arms. I felt my exo-cortex wind up in response to the dread that was sitting in my gut.

Portfolio advice !!!

Hi!! So I am currently and undergraduate student and am trying to build a portfolio this summer to apply to internships for next summer. Specifically character concept art. I have no idea where to start. Here are some just current examples with my own characters of my process with silhouettes, color concepts, and the final (definitely not a final layout, just to show for now). But what do they look for in a process? Any advice on anything shown, or where to look for entry level examples?

What role does this ship look built for?

The Vanguard is the main combat ship players start with in our game. It was designed as a universal frontline attacker: durable enough to survive prolonged fights, but still capable of dealing serious damage during raids and convoy battles. Most mercenary groups on the Stable Frontier rely on ships like this because they’re relatively cheap, adaptable and easy to maintain far from core systems.

Loadout currently includes:

* 4 primary weapon hardpoints

* light machine guns

* close-range shotgun weapons

* guided missile launcher

* salvo rocket launcher

In-game, the Vanguard is usually the backbone of a small detachment - escorting cargo barges, hunting raiders or surviving long skirmishes in unstable sectors. But now we’re curious how people read this ship visually. What tactical role does it LOOK like it was built for?

* heavy attacker?

* escort fighter?

* strike craft?

* patrol ship?

* mercenary workhorse?

* disposable mass-produced combat ship?

And most importantly:

would you actually trust your life to a ship like this?
