1300 repair + maintenance turned into 4.5k??? 2018 540i xdrive 50k total miles

So I took my car into the stealership for routine oil change and they told me my guibo was cracked (was cracked previous oil change as well) and everything else they marked as good. They quoted me 1200 for repair as well as 700 for transfer case fluid service and rear did fluid service (which I requested as routine maintenance). Price seamed high so I went to an independent euro shop who gave me all 3 jobs for 1300 (800 for guibo 300 for transfer and 100 for rear dif *just estimates*). So I took it there because it was 600 bucks cheaper for everything and they are very highly rated by the community with 980 reviews and a 4.8 star rating on google. I was feeling relieved I saved money and got my car into shape. Well I get a call today saying my engine mounts and transmission mounts are both collapsed and the transmission ones leaked all the oil onto the exhaust (which 2 days prior bmw techs explicitly stated in my inspection I didn’t have any leaks from transfer case) so it’s priority but engine mounts are not as they didn’t start leaking yet. They quoted me 700 for trans mounts and 2500 roughly for engine mounts. Are we fucking joking here? I figured I would have a few expensive repairs on this car but figured they would be engine related not problems that should never happen. What the fuck. I only payed 30k for this car when I bought it a year ago. It is paid off. But for a 30k car in my first year of ownership to have 4k of repairs needed to be done is fucking ridiculous. My previous 4 cars didnt cost even half that much in repairs over the 7 years previous I’ve been driving. This is ridiculous. I’m 23 and buying a house next year and would like to get my home gym decked to the gills but having to spend 4k in repairs is going to screw me out of that. Is this something that really needs to be fixed asap cause if that’s the case I’m selling the car. It’s got no vibrations and drives perfectly so I don’t see how it could be screwed but I was planning on keeping the car till it died but wasn’t expecting costly repairs like this to occur for 3-4 more years until it was around the 80k mile mark and expected it to be engine related like a normal car. But to spend 4k on a 30k car after 1 year of owning it and it only having 50k miles is ridiculous. The car is cherry otherwise has every package you could imagine, diamond stitched seat, soft close doors, m sport package, and anything in between and I love it but this is making it not worth it as it’s not even something that should go wrong with the car.

16 year old car with no service history

Hello, I viewed a 2009 Mini Cooper today that I've been thinking of buying. I took it for a test drive and eveything seems okay and it drove nicely. My only concern is that there's no evidence of any service history. I asked the seller (private seller) about this and they said they didnt know where it was and hadn't been serviced in the time they had it (about 3 years).

The seller has already reduced the price to £1100 for me due to it being an old car anyway, it was originally selling for £1400. Once I found out there was no service history, I offered to buy the car for a further discounted price around £900 because of the lack of service history but she was pretty adamant sticking to £1100.

What should I do? Everyone I've spoken to about this has said it's risky but I really like the car.

I need a new transmission

I drive a 2000 4WD Ranger. I’ve been quoted for a new transmission at a few different shops, all for around $5,000. I’m not sure what to do, but I’m not really sure what options I have. Obviously that isn’t cheap, and I assume this isn’t a fix that I can find a few different friends and do ourselves. What would you all do in this situation?

SEAT QUESTION

Using this seat for an off road buggy, I know it’s not ideal but I got it for a killer deal and I’m on a budget. The hip width is pretty good, but the rib bolstering (highlighted in yellow) feels like it is digging into my arms pretty good. I know it’s not in the buggy yet so it’s not final wheel location, but I don’t see it changing much.

Is this seat simply not going to work, or is this normal for this style seat? Any remedy like adding padding over the aluminum frame?

Thanks!

What is this rod sticking out of the tire? 2025 Mazda CX-5

On the rear left tire, the end of this little rod came off. The domed lid and a red o-ring came out. What is the function of this, and should I be worried about what came off?

Guys, please help a lonely girl 🥲 Question ⬇️

I left my summer tires at a car service center for winter storage ("in a heated warehouse," they said). The tires are new; I drove them for three months before changing them for winter.

The photo below shows what they installed today 🥺

Why does it look like this? It looks like it's been around for years? It's covered in rust. I didn't find any microcracks, I think.

Of course, I doubt these are my tires. But there's no way to prove it; the storage contract didn't even specify the manufacturing date. I don't remember my date. These tires are from 2024.

Can this dash cover work for my car, given the placement of the passenger airbag

My old Toyota Runx's dash has become super shiny over the years and it is dangerous to drive when the sun hits the dash just right and reflects onto the windscreen.

All the dash covers that I can find for my car cover the passenger airbag, and Im wondering if the airbag deploys will the cover just move out the way?

I asked the shop selling it, if it is guaranteed to work with the airbag and they responded and said it is safe to use.

**Don't mind the photo being a left hand drive and the cover being for a right hand drive**

So I recently bought my first 3rd gen and it starts and runs good but after a few minutes it dies and won't turn back on for a while then repeat. I replaced the gas filter and the gas in it was orange so maybe I have to clean the gas tank too?

It's a 3.1

Is keeping a 2003 Dodge Caravan worth it?

Hello car questions, I am not a car person, so bear with me. My neighbor, very sweet lady, gave me her 2003 dodge caravan for free. (signed me the title it was a legitimate transaction)

Disclaimer, my roommate has known her awhile and can vouch for her being a good lady

It just got 2k worth of work done to it at the end of april this year and has like around 180k miles on it.

I can either sell it to a car parts yard (i was quoted 340$) (this would be my rent money lol i just moved)

OR, i can wait a little bit until i have more $$ and insure it. (its current registration doesn't expire until november of this year) (geico quoted me 93 a month)

I wanna know FOR REAL. if this is worth it.

part of me really wants to keep it, its red/orange and it drives pretty well (ive taken it around the block 2 times to get a feel for it) has a cd player, the ac works nice. and im all for a cheap car that will get me from a-b

(i am not entirely prepared for the grueling central valley heat and commuting on foot/bus)

EDIT:

I compared the two invoices, the one that was just the list of things it needed done, and the list of things that were done,

it still apparently needs:

Shocks/struts

wheel alignment

serpentine belt

(do note if those lack of fixes make the car dangerous lol)

I Spilled Coffee in 26 Kia Sportage

I spilled coffee with milk and sugar in the cupholder and it drained into the center console. Any advice on what I should do to clean it or if this panel can be easily removed to go inside?

It’s an 08 Chevy Tahoe but it has obvious front end work done extremely unprofessional with a gmc bumper and the guy said the engine was replaced. Never said what it was replaced with but he did say crate engine if that helps. We are not mechanically inclined in any way just to let you know

Hey all, looking for some advice here because this situation left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.
I recently bought a car from a dealership. During the deal, the person closing everything told me (pretty clearly) that they were “throwing in” a warranty/protection ( cloth/interior protection). I took that as it being included at no cost. He used the word “free”.

Later, I realized I was actually charged for it in the contract. I’ll own my part I signed the paperwork and didn’t catch it at the time (long day, probably should’ve slowed down and double-checked everything).

That said, what bothered me more was when I brought it up, the response I got back (including from the owner) was basically along the lines of “you signed it, that’s on you,” without really addressing what was said during the sale. It felt dismissive, especially since I wasn’t even arguing the signature part — just what was represented to me.

At this point, I’m not even trying to blow things up. is what it is. I’m more trying to understand:

Do I have any realistic recourse here?

Is this something worth pushing with corporate, or am I wasting my time?

Has anyone had success getting something like this refunded or adjusted after the fact?

Or is this just one of those “lesson learned” situations?

I come from a small business background myself, so I get both sides — just feels like there should be some accountability for what’s said during the deal.

Appreciate any insight or similar experiences.

I recently bought a car, and there is an oval shaped stain on the head restraint. I’ve had zero success with removing it, I’m really not sure what it was caused by. It’s somewhat oily when I touch it, and can be rubbed off a little bit.

I’ve tried using a vinegar based solution, as well as gently scrubbing with bristles with soap and water. It goes away for like a day and then comes right back, noticeably. I have a sunroof, so I’m not sure if that caused the “stain” on the leather possibly? I’d take any suggestions if there’s any way at all to remove this oval.

What should I check before buying a used car?

I’m looking at buying my first used car and don’t really know what to look for beyond the obvious.

Mileage, service history, test drive… but I feel like I’m missing important stuff.

Are there any big red flags I should watch out for?

Hi all, so 8 months ago I bought a BMW 3 series 2009 and over the Easter weekend it “died” RAC stated timing chain and I got it towed home.
It’s been at a garage for about 2 weeks and it’s gone from timing chain to actually not having a catalytic converter at all!
The car is now a non runner and I’m being quoted over the price I paid for the car to get the catalytic converter and cylinder issues to be fixed.

Question is do I have any rights with the garage I bought it from.

Thanks
