I drive a 2000 4WD Ranger. I’ve been quoted for a new transmission at a few different shops, all for around $5,000. I’m not sure what to do, but I’m not really sure what options I have. Obviously that isn’t cheap, and I assume this isn’t a fix that I can find a few different friends and do ourselves. What would you all do in this situation?

I have a transmission going bad, and I have 3 options.

-I can buy an ATK transmission for $2400, family friend can put it in my truck for me for cheaper than a shop, 3 year warranty

-I can buy a power torque transmission for $2800, same family friend can do the work and 3 year warranty

-I can go through a reputable local shop, but it would be 4800-5000 total

No idea if ATK or power torque is good. Any opinions out there? Definitely need help
