Julia was a terrible person and Kady should've been the goddess

I'm doing another partial rewatch (watching only the episodes I like) and season one Julia was a horrible human being. Sleeping with him to get locations on hedge bars, treating hedges like crap and oh yeah, locking her best friend inside his own mental ward all because Q said things she didn't like. Boo hoo. I feel like Kady would've made a great goddess. Thoughts?

Edit: I GET the addict part of it I DON'T GET locking your mentally unstable friend into his own mental ward that mimicked real life.... To me that is skin crawling

Rewatching yet again after eye surgery. MARGO ❤️❤️❤️

I’m rewatching yet again. The magicians is my favorite show. Favorite book series. I’ve been through a year of eye issues that started with a detached retina. I ultimately lost my vision in my left eye. Had another surgery this past week to get it as healthy as possible so it can hopefully stay in place. This whole year, Margo has maybe saved me? Saved my spirits. Showed me I can be a badass especially with an eyepatch. I wish I could get a fairy eye though. I have tried to keep my sense of humor through it all too, as this picture from work a few months ago between other surgeries shows. ❤️👁️❤️

Underworld and the 39 other timelines

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's thought of this but I'm trying to figure out how the underworld works with the timelines. They're all running parallel to each other because timelines can visit other timelines. When Quentin and Julia go to the underworld looking for her shade the guy at the counter says they've died 39 times and their computers don't handle it well. In one of the timelines we know Quentin hasn't died yet because he becomes with beast just without his shade. So, is the underworld computer wrong? And what happens to their soul when they die in the other 39 timelines? Are there 39 other versions of them that have been to the underworld? Did they move on right away like Quentin in timeline 40 did? How's all that work?

Again, finished season 1but holy f*** jules

Her memory being returned to her was absolutely brutal. Changing her memory so her faith isn't disturbed and she keeps going on with life with her head up was marina at her best.

She's officially goated!!

And Jules were here for you😭

Am I lobotomized?

I was thinking about the suffix -son/-sen meaning son of and i realized something.

Martin is an Umberson/Umbersen.

In the chronicles of narnia the boys are called sons of adam and the girls are called daughters of eve.

Umber came from Ember so Umber would be the eve in this scenario.

This tracks with Nietzsche's assertion that Christianity suppresses the Apollonian man and Dionysian woman.

Idk what it says about him that he stands apart as a son of eve but it says something!! Lol

Spotted our (least) favorite trickster fox god while watching Lost

From S01E22 "Born to Run"

He has a minor role, but his acting was phenomenal in his scenes

Finished season 4. Don’t want to watch next season. Super attached to this show and characters.

I don’t know how to really explain this, but I fell in love with the characters and the real life actors. I think they did an outstanding job with all their roles. Hale Appleman killed it in season 4 as dark Elliot. I relate very well with the actor and character Penny, with my Indian background. I don’t want to watch season 5 without Q

Knowing season 5 is the last season and Q isn’t in it, makes it very hard for me to continue binging the show.

I would love to hear what you guys liked about the show and what got you hooked.

Books vs TV series - a dilemma

My best friend just brought me The magicians trilogy hardcover box set for my birthday. He told me to either read them or collect them.

I'm trying to avoid reading too much here because I don't want to spoil the books.

I just want to know a few things:

Is there still that same sarcastic stuff that makes us laugh like in the TV shows?

For everybody that has read the books and seen the TV show, which do you think is better?

If there's anything else you can tell me without ruining the books for me, please let me know. It's very difficult for me to read because of problems with my eyes so I need to know if it's worth the journey.

Also, every time I ask Google a question (with multiple warnings not to spoil anything) it tries to give away the entire trilogy so I had to stop reading it. I'm counting on you guys to help.

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! 🙆‍♂️

What spurred me into watching The Magicians is my vague memories of some episodes back when I was younger. (I'm 21 now). I learned as I watched the show is that those memories are specifically the 3rd season, which is the best season imo. I DID NOT REMEMBER HOW MUCH SEX WAS IN THIS SHOW BACK THEN. Here are my thoughts about it.

Pros:

- The filters? I couldn't get enough of it. The way it was used as a way to familiarize the watcher of where they were and what was happening.

- I love the B-plots that happened within each episode.

- The characters? Aside from some boring ones, are really great. Go Q!

- The way that they tied up loose ends where a character from a previous Season/Episode will pay off in the future and show up again. It just makes sense!

- The way each character had different relationships with magic and how it can't really fix all their problems.

- The Keys arc is what I love the most.

- Elliot and Q relationship is a great tragic story. I LOVED THAT PUZZLE EPISODE!

- I love how Julia(S1) and Alice both personified the greed when it comes to magic.

Cons:

- Season 5 was not it. It felt arbitrary and random. It kinda felt like they just said "Yknow how we created 4 seasons of well-thought out pay-offs, let's stop doing that and just make a standalone season"

Julia vs. The Writers

What is up with Julia in the last two seasons of the show? Did the actress piss the show runners off? Julia spent three seasons being one of, if not the most developed and nuanced character in the ensemble with a truly captivating story of turning your trauma into power (literally) and then after the show decided to take away her God status for plot service *EYE ROLL* she just kind of dropped off...or "regressed" if you will. Who made this decision? I am still curious all these years later.

Neither of us has read books or knows anything about this show going in. We started it on a whim.

So, after Quinton gets off the elevator and has his interview with Penny, I wouldn't have been even remotely upset if the series just ends there. I don't need to know what happened to anyone else, what a beautiful way to end the show...

As the episode goes on and we see the song by the fire and we learn more about what happens to the others and he walks through the door... WHY does there need to be another season? What can possibly be added to the show??? What didn't get wrapped up? There's obviously some drama in Fillery but who cares? Margot and Elliot will just keep going in that loop forever, and I would watch a spinoff with just them, honestly...

Please tell me the last season doesn't mess up the show, because I am inclined not to even start it even though I love this show!

I'm rewatching for the 3rd time, and i can't help but wonder about the students who tried to kill hitler back when they time travelled in 1942 but died carrying out "Operation Die Fuhrer"
