Is the Sony 70-350mm worth it with an A6700?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for all your feedback! You’re really selling it to me 🤣

I’ve reviewed so much footage and photography but I just still can’t decide! Hoping to use it mainly for birding/wildlife - if anyone thinks there’s something better out there, I’d love to know.

Sony A6700 + Sigma 17-40mm + 70-350mm contre Sony A7C II + Sigma 28-70mm

Hello everyone,

I’m a former Sony A7 IV user. I used to own the Sigma 85mm DG DN Art and the Sigma 24–70mm DG DN Art which I had to sell mainly for financial reasons. I was extremely satisfied with that setup.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to buy a brand-new Sony A6700 with the Sony 70–350mm. I’m planning to add the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC Art. I previously owned the Sigma 28–50mm f/2.8 and was a bit disappointed with it. It was good for the price and weight, but I found it somewhat lacking in terms of sharpness and especially micro-contrast. The Sigma 17–40mm seems to be on a completely different level, although it costs around €1,000.

That said, I still have a few days left to return the A6700, and I’m considering switching to a Sony A7C II with the Sigma 28–70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary, since adding the Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 to my current setup would increase the total cost significantly anyway, given that this lens alone costs around €1,000.

With the A6700, I can’t seem to achieve the same “wow” effect I had with the A7 IV, or even with my previous full-frame cameras from other brands. It’s difficult to define exactly, but I feel like I’m missing pure sharpness and a certain sense of “depth” in the image.

I really love the size and form factor of the A6700 even more than the A7 IV and I also love its autofocus, which the A7C II shares. However, I’m a bit disappointed because the A6700 seems to get noisy fairly quickly at higher ISO values (which is expected with APS-C), and overall I feel the image rendering is not quite as good. That said, perhaps the Sigma 17–40mm would improve this significantly.

My main question is:

Would a Sony A7C II with the Sigma 28–70mm produce noticeably better image quality than a Sony A6700 with the Sigma 17–40mm? For roughly €200 more, I would lose the 70–350mm but gain a full-frame setup. I’m struggling to determine whether the image quality difference I’m noticing is mainly due to the larger sensor and higher effective resolution, or if it’s mostly because I’m currently using a less capable lens.

I’d really appreciate any advice or firsthand experience.

Thanks!

A6700 Camera skin

Hello! Are camera skins a good idea? Apart from aesthetics, does it help in the longevity and durability of the gear? I need honest opinions.. thank you!

Took my a6700 to Magee marsh this weekend. Here’s what i got.

Lighting fast autofocus is a dream. Still learning the basics of photography and this camera, but I’m really enjoying it so far. Wasn’t all too much going on at the boardwalk when I was there unfortunately.

a6700 on the way! what now?

Hello. I'm so pumped to get back into digital photography with the a6700. My last digital camera was a Sony DSC-HX5V (still have it, but haven't used it in years). I also ordered the 18-135 kit lens (both from Sony online) and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN C. I've already been immersing myself in the Alpha Academy stuff and skimming the manual online. What are some things you wish you knew when you first got your a6700? Thanks for any advice.

Need motivation

Can anyone red-pill-me on staying with A6700? I only hear "AF this, AF that", but why does every fuji photo looks thousand times better than anything A6700 produces? I even purchased a 17-40 Sigma lens which is supposed to be S tier. Am I just not skilled enough? I went through this entire sub and I am not seeing what I imagined to see. Everything is just flat and not colourful.

Is Sony FF line the answer? Or just Fuji ASPCs?

Anyone got A6700 + Sigma 17-40 and can share a photos that are worth looking at?

Tamron 150-500mm vs Sony 70-350mm ?

I've used the Tamron for like 2 years and recently got the Sony. I'm pleasantly surprised by the keeper rate for the Sony. It's much more precise with the autofocus and somehow performs better at high iso ?

Or maybe I'm looking at this wrong and it's an unfair comparison. Shooting at 500mm vs 350mm is more difficult to handle autofocus, microblurs. The bigger lens adds fatigue over long hikes. (I usually use my hiking stick as a monopod). So maybe the Sony it's just more fit for hiking...and big animals like Ibex goats (though it depends, the longer reach definitely helps sometimes)

So what do you think ? Anyone else had the chance to compare the two ? I'm going to test it more to finally settle between the 2. This was only a short walk from the car, with light rain conditions, the ibex usually comes down the mountain especially to eat the new grass/branches.

Sony on the left, green photo and the Tamron on the right with the snow in the background.

Brought my new a6700 to my day trip to Bath from London, and I was super stoked with how my photos turned out! Used custom Picture Profiles/Creative Looks and tweeked a little bit in Lightroom as well. Please be kind, and feel free to comment ☺️

I’m a 17yo student and I like wildlife photography. I might occasionally do other types of photography but mainly animals and people. I’m looking to get my first camera, and I’m torn between the Sony a6600 and a6700, mainly because of the price. I’m also wondering if I should go second hand. I’m planning to get the tamron 18-300. Either I downgrade my lens to the Sony 55-210 plus the 16-50 kit lens, or I get the 18-300 with either a second hand camera or the older a6600 instead.

The thing is, my dad is willing to pay for 50% (capped at SGD$1400) for whatever items I choose to get brand new.

The a6700 with the 18-300 (ideal setup) comes to around $3600 brand new

The a6600 with the 18-300 (ideal setup) comes to around $3075 brand new

A second hand a6700 and 18-300 is about $2800

And a brand new a6700 with the 16-50 and 55-210 is around $2500

A6700/FX30 combo

The cinema expands! Decided to make two new additions to my small a6700 family. I’m super excited to run a fx30/a6700 as a 1-2 punch for videos and I’m arguably even more excited for my first zoom lens with the popular sigma 17-40.

I think it’s the perfect APSC combo. Now with the fx30, I can relax and not worry about overheating. Plus with the 2 SD cards I can run redundancy and feel safer overall shooting with this camera. I will continue shooting photos primarily with the a6700, and I think the a6700 will make a perfect B cam alongside the fx30 for videography.

Now the question is will my DJI rs4 mini support the payload of the fx30, smallrig cage, and the sigma 17-40 with potentially a VND 😅 we shall see. Happy shooting!

What the hell is this sound?!

I just turned my camera on to look at some photos and heard this. First time. Never dropped or hit my camera, bought it not long after release.

Is it dying?! It stopped after I turned it off and turned it back on, but now I'm scared to use it.

Hi everyone, my brother gave me the A6700 as a birthday gift because he heard me talking about wanting to have a camera
He didn’t just give me the camera body It came with a kit lens and he bought me a sigma lens and lexar memory card
My question is do I need to buy something else or this is enough plus is there something I have to switch (get a different memory card or maybe a different lens or what he bought is actually good?)
Also, this is my first time having a camera. Is there some crucial setting that I should change in the camera and are there any videos you recommend me to watch to start learning and getting used to this camera?
Literally any help is appreciated

Edit: kit lens: SELP 16-50mm Kit lens.
2nd lens: Sigma AF 18-50MM
Memory card: Lexar 512 GB Professional 1667x UHS-II SDXC

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice.

I’m thinking about buying the Sony A6700 mainly for hiking trips, travel, and outdoor adventures. I’d like to use it to create cinematic travel videos, short edits with music in the background, and maybe even some mini short-film style content.

I also want the ability to do color grading, so having good video files with flexibility in post-production is important to me.

I should also mention that I have no previous experience with dedicated cameras. Right now, for both photos and videos, I only use my iPhone 16 Pro for personal use.

My question is: would the Sony A6700 be a good choice for someone like me, or would it be overkill?

The starting kit would cost me around €1500, and that’s without extra memory cards, spare batteries, or another lens, so it would end up costing even more. I’m wondering if it’s worth spending that much for my use case.

Would I be better off with something simpler like an action camera (GoPro, DJI Action, etc.) or maybe a DJI Osmo Pocket for convenience and ease of use?

Weight is not a major concern for me, so portability matters less than overall image quality and creative flexibility.

What would you recommend in my situation? Thanks a lot.Etc.Also to mention that I like quality things that last
