I went through the whole zybooks course, met with an instructor, I took the practice test, and I scored exemplary, then I took the real test, all my functions ran and printed. I even deleted the print section. And I totally bombed it. Im feeling really really discouraged and I do not know where to go from here.

New MSIT Acceleration

Hello everyone, is anyone accelerating through the new MSIT Program? I'd love to hear how it's going. I'm hoping to complete it in 1 term, but I already have 3 courses transferring over from the BSIT.

New BSIT Program?

Hi y'all,

I apologize if this question has been asked a million times; it seems like most posts are from over a year ago. I just wanted to ask if any of you guys have transferred over to the new BSIT program, and if you have, do you regret it?

I was asked if I was interested, mainly because the Web Dev portion of the old IT program is a little irrelevant (to me at least), and the new BSIT program has a more hands-on approach and more Python. It would only add 1 additional course to my current degree plan, and I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and swap over. I am not a huge fan of PAs but I'm willing to live with that if I never touch web dev again.

I'd love to know what you guys think. Thanks!

Just need to vent frustration with D336 ITIL course and Instructor

Not sure if anyone has dealt with this, but when I first scheduled my exam, the time zone was wrong and I had to take my exam within the hour! I was not prepared so I failed by one question.

I told the instructor this, and that I even called People Cert’s support like and the representative couldn’t figure out the time zone thing either.

I asked the instructor if I could get an extra voucher if I needed it, and she completely disregarded my question. Not only that, she told me to do a bunch of coursework before I could get approval again. I finished last term with retrying- and kept moving forward with other courses.

The practice exams she has are horrible. I saw many students gave bad reviews. It has 2.6 stars- and she still hasn’t changed this.

Besides being highly unresponsive and taking forever to email back, I now have time to take the exam this term- tonight actually! And of course, no answer.

I’m trying to request the voucher to no avail.

D282 Cloud Foundation

I have no idea where to begin with this course. I’ve been putting it off for about a week. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get started. The course material seems useless

Hello I am currently a field tech for a company and I do enjoy it a lot but sadly I am unsure on job security in the future years due to nature of the business. SO that said i am trying to decide on either doing wgu bachelors for IT cause the company will help on it or ccnp enterprise I am going to do both and I am a fast studier I have my comptia trifecta and associates so I'd only need a few for specialization then have my bachelors. Does anyone here have a recommendation from past experience I found posts pointing both ways when I was researching older posts.

Career paths

I attend WGU for Cloud Computing, and although I’m halfway through the program, I have little to no real-world tech experience. I’ve been trying to find entry-level positions so I can start building experience before I graduate and have a stronger résumé for cloud-related careers, but so far I haven’t even been able to land a tech support role.

I guess what I’m asking is: will this become a major problem when I finish school and start applying for cloud engineer or cloud architect positions? Is the lack of experience going to seriously hurt my chances?

Because honestly, I don’t want to finally get my first tech support job only after I’ve already completed my degree.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Started on 4/1 and feels great to complete a class. This is the momentum I needed to accelerate.

I have many years IT experience, but the typical “non-programming” type. I ignored all of it, I did everything I could to learn as little as possible. I felt I needed to focus on other areas more… then the Lord brought me back to college, to WGU, to the beast that is “C777.”

Praise the Lord Jesus I am through with that. But what a class… don’t take it lightly.

Happy May (basically May already) to all the new, existing, and former WGU students. We would like to take the opportunity to plug two Discord communities for your WGU (pre-, current, and post-) educational journey. Whether you're currently enrolled, recently joined, or exploring WGU as a potential student, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved and connect with others walking the same path as you!

Unofficial WGU Discord

The Unofficial WGU Discord has over 15,000 members and averages 3,000+ messages per week. We have a large FAQ channel, a ton of resources to help with PA/OAs, as well as a dedicated military/veteran community. We have channels and support for all 4 Colleges at WGU (Health, Education, Information Technology, and Business) with quite a lot of engagement by current students and alumni.

It's free to join and a good complement to reddit for information and resources related to WGU, so why not check it out?

https://discord.gg/unwgu

WGU CS Discord

If you happen to be a Computer Science or Software Engineering Major at WGU, there is a more focused Discord server that is highly recommend. The WGU CS Discord has over 5,000 members with dedicated channels for each course in the programs and highly focused discussions relevant to CS and SE students and alumni. It is ALSO free, so check it out too if you are interested in CS/SE.

https://discord.gg/tny9ewPUBT

Ok, but really why should I bother with either Discord server?

  • Support for Degree Programs: Each server has multiple resources and forms of help. Each server has a plethora of FAQs, general/Major/career discussion channels, individual course focused threads, and even places to discuss hobbies. This is the perfect space for participants to connect, collaborate, and share valuable resources.

  • Organization: Both servers have taken a unique approach to organizing the servers it to make it easier for you to navigate and find the resources and discussions relevant to your studies.

  • Rich Resource Pool: Our communities are filled with valuable resources, notes, and helpful insights shared by fellow students who've walked the path you're on.

  • Master Resource Sheets: A huge resource hub of guides, videos, and tips exists for both servers.

  • A more interactive chat experience: Unlike reddit or Facebook groups, Discord is an interactive chat platform. You are far more likely to have running discussions and conversations on Discord than either reddit or Facebook.

    • NOTE: You will get out of the chat experience what you put in. Just remember that the people on the other side of the chat have lives and responsibilities. Please be patient if you don't get an immediate response to something you post.

How Can I Contribute?

  • Share Your Wisdom: If you've found a resource or strategy that's been particularly helpful, share it with the community!

  • Engage in Discussions: Your insights and experiences can be invaluable to others. Don't hesitate to join the conversation!

  • Ask Questions: Stuck on something? Ask away! There's no such thing as a silly question and you might just be surprised how many others have had the same issue/question.

    • NOTE: You are expected to have done at least some basic research/searching for your question/issue. Additionally, you will get far more responses if you ask a specific question with details and then are patient for an answer. People are more likely to answer verbose questions than something generic.

So, what are you waiting for? Come join us on Discord for conversation, collaboration, help, and fun. We have it all.

Wanted to add some insight for future owls taking this course. Took a handful of the quizzes from the course materials, attended an OA cohort and received a kahoot quiz that the instructor from the cohort said was pretty much the same questions from the OA. On the preassessment I got exemplary on Crafts Effective Prompts but the language was different on the OA. Enrolled two days ago and passed yesterday. Would have taken the exam the first day but the cohort instructor said thay there was no way anyone would pass the exam without looking at the course material so I spent a bit more time on it.

Some backstory: I have worked in a tech based field forever and have built a couple of computers but Ive only worked in a Tier 1 IT role professionally for 1.5 years total in my career and havent worked in that role for over 5 years now. Ive passed the A+ in the past but that was in 2018 when it was a single test.

Much like the first time I passed this test, Professor Messor was my main study material. I found his course notes (you have to pay for those) to be the most helpful. It took me longer than I care to admit to realize his course notes are the same as the videos with the slides but the slides are written out in text form on the course notes so reading the notes is like having a transcript of the slides. I studied for about 4 weeks.

One thing I do want to point out though is Certmaster. More specifically, the certmaster practice exams. I got an email when I signed up for the OA that said the following:

I HIGHLY encourage you to double check your exam readiness with the learning modules, and taking the practice exam at Certmaster Practice exam prep and Practice Exam. Achieving a score of 88% or higher will not only boost your confidence but also solidify your readiness for the actual exam.

Ive never used certmaster before but Ive heard about it and with this recommendation, I gave the pracice exams a try. I took the practice exams 3 times (1.5 hrs each and each time you take it, its a different test) and I never scored above a 78 (72, 75, 78) and still passed the Core 1/OA on the first try and passed with a score of almost 100 points higher than I needed.

Im not really saying dont take the certmaster practice exams but just keep this in mind.

I recently started this course, and I'm lost. I've read through the material, and it's just general information.

I understand the rubric and the requirements, but I wish there were an example to understand the format/expectations a little better since I've never used any of these before.

Can anyone share some pointers? Thank you!

Note: This is the first class I'm stuck on, everything else has been fine until now.

Hi everyone, I really need some honest advice. I graduated with a BA in Economics, but to be honest, it feels like one of the biggest mistakes of my life because I had zero interest in it and mostly chose it due to family pressure. Since then, I’ve worked in project management and currently I’m working as a peer recovery coach, but deep down I’ve always been interested in computers and IT and I genuinely enjoy anything related to technology, especially the idea of working remotely which I already do and love. Recently, I decided to change my path and start an MS in IT at WGU starting July 1, and this is also very important to me because I would be the first person in my family to get a master’s degree, which means a lot personally. I’m also planning to get my CompTIA A+, but right now I’m focused on saving money for tuition so I haven’t started yet. However, after reading many posts here, I’ve started feeling scared because a lot of people say that without experience, even a master’s in IT may not help much and that it’s more focused on leadership roles, so now I’m doubting myself and feeling anxious about whether this is the right decision. I really want to know, is it worth doing an MS in IT with zero experience, will I actually be able to get a job if I study hard, should I focus on certifications first instead, and has anyone here successfully transitioned into IT from a completely different field? I’m willing to work hard and start from entry-level, I just don’t want to feel like I made another wrong decision and lose hope again, so I would truly appreciate any honest advice from people who have been in a similar situation. Thank you 🙏

I'm surprised I did well on the JS because I always felt like it was my weakest subject,

This class single handedly halting my progress, now I have 7 more classes and plan to steam roll them in the next 2 months

I understand they're getting rid of this class so it's a bit poetic that I finished the OA on my last night for the term before they get rid of the class for good
