I shot a solo coffee spec ad with a minimal setup. Would love some cinematography feedback!

Heyaaa!!

I’m an India-based filmmaker, and I created a solo spec commercial for Blue Tokai coffee. Since I was working all alone, I ended up wearing all the hats—writing, lighting, shooting, editing, and even acting in it myself.

Given my limited resources, my main goal was to see how much production value and mood I could squeeze out of a very small setup. I really tried to focus on intentional framing, cinematic lighting, and visual storytelling to set the right atmosphere.

Here is a quick look at the tools I used to bring it together:

The Gear:

Nikon Z6III paired with a 28-75mm f/2.8 lens.

Kept the lighting simple with a Godox SL60W and a tiny Hiffin 7W.

The Look (Post-Production):

Cut and finished entirely in DaVinci Resolve.

Used Dehancer for the color grade, aiming for a cinematic feel with a Fujifilm 3513 emulation.

I’m really looking to grow as a visual storyteller, so I would genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Whether it’s about the lighting choices, the pacing, or the overall vibe—please don't hold back on the constructive criticism!

Click here to watch the full ad on youtube

(I've also attached a few of my favorite stills above so you can see the framing!)

ps- This isn't my work. I posted this on behalf of u/date_007. He's new to reddit, doesn't have enough karma and still finding his way through this app (I mean- reddit can be intimidating for beginners- there's just so much going on hehe). So I figured that I'd post for him :). Happy watching!

Looking for editor

So, first off, its gonna be an editor request for free... if you don't like that, you're welcome to move along.

Anyways, I am looking for an consistent editor where we can converse on discord. Reddit is fine if needed, but Discord is preferred.

I am looking for an editor who can combine multiple vods into one video, and be consistent as well, as I stream almost daily for at least an hour. I don't have a deadline, but I'd prefer to not take more than a week between videos. Vods could be shortened down to maybe a 40 minute video.

All experience levels are welcome, and youre welcome to use what you edit for me as part of your portfolio!

Again, my money situation is pretty bad (no job, unemployed as well :<)

But I am actively looking for new jobs, and will pay as soon as I can, so its just there won't be payment RIGHT now, if that makes sense.

Feel free to comment your discord user, or dm it, and I'll get to ya!

Why did extract audio track change from blue to green???

Am i the only one?? When I extract audio clips the color of the audio layer has turned into this green from the previous blue color. Why is it that everyday there's some annoying glitch with capcut that makes everyone's lives a little worse. On top of this, the original blue had a nice contrast where you could see the wavelength clearly, now the contrast between the green wavelength and background isn't as sharp, when I zoom out it's hard to make it out clearly.

Why did they do this?? is this happening to you to?? I've deleted cache, started a new project, restarted my computer, software update, nothing is fixing this.

This doesn't effect audio sound effects (those are still blue), and if I compound this audio clip it turns to blue, but the audio itself inside the compound is this low contrast green. Please help! (btw I have a pro account)

Lessons I learned being a founder/video editor and running my own studio

Been editing for about five years now, worked with clients across the board, and watched a lot of talented editors price themselves out of the game or just burn out. Here's what actually matters if you want a long career in this.

  1. Keep upskilling. Always.

You are never done upskilling and gaining new insights. Recreate cool videos that you see. Stay on top of your game. This will compound drastically over the years.

  1. Network, network, network.

Talk to more people, interact with more people, ask people for advice, figure out how they make stuff. Talk to the actual creators behind work you admire. Keep networking. You'll never know the strength of your network until the day it actually starts paying your bills. Speaking from experience.

  1. Don't undersell yourself.

Just because you don't have the confidence to talk to a client doesn't mean your product isn't worth it. Get paid for your work. Never do free work, even for family and friends. Family and friends pay full price. If you want to charge strangers extra, power to you.

  1. AI is not something to be afraid of.

AI is your new tool. It might look scary at first but it's not going to replace you. It's just going to enhance you. Learn how to use it, learn cool ways to involve it in your workflow and scale up. People do not pay for your ability to push buttons on software. People pay for your ability to look at a piece of content and make it better. Great editing will never be replaced by cutting and adding text because that is not what editing is. The same way great writers will never be replaced by AI.

  1. Niche down and sell results, not skills.

The more AI slop there is out there, the more real content and real creative output will be valued. If you want to start a career and actually get clients, start in a niche. Do not be a general video editor. Pick a niche you feel comfortable in and have experience editing. Find out their problems, pick the ones you can solve using video editing and content, and do it enough times where you're comfortable selling them a result. People do not pay for pushing buttons. People pay for results. They don't really care about you editing a video. They care about what that video edit will bring them. Is it fame? Is it wealth? Is it investment? Is it reputation? Whatever it is, sell results, not skills.

I've been doing this for five plus years, and thanks to God, I've been able to make a living out of it. If any one of you has questions related to this, I'm always happy to answer.

Looking for a Video Editor for My 10K Subscriber YouTube Channel, €250-€500 Budget

Hey everyone!

My name is Marijn, and I run a small YouTube channel that is about to reach 10,000 subscribers, which is a really exciting milestone for me.

Unfortunately, because of my busy work life, I currently do not have enough time to properly edit my videos myself. Funny enough, I actually graduated from film and television school, so I know my way around editing quite well. Because of that, I do notice details and may have quite a few notes during the editing process. Just a heads-up!

I’m looking for a video editor who can help me with an upcoming project. The video will be around 8 to 10 minutes long, and I’m looking for someone who is strong at fast-paced editing, clean cuts, basic effects, good audio balancing, and fitting music choices.

I will provide most of the footage, and I can record more if needed. I will also provide the full voice-over and takes with the audio already cleaned up. The main goal is to create an engaging video with quick pacing that keeps viewers watching.

Alongside the full video, I would also like one short-form clip that can be posted across social media.

Budget: €250 to €500, depending on your experience and what you can offer.

If you’re interested, feel free to reach out to me at estheticants@gmail.com with some information about yourself, your experience, and examples of your previous work.

Thanks!
Marijn

[HIRING] Full-Time YouTube Video Editor (₹40,000–₹80,000/month)

Hiring Full-Time YouTube Video Editor (High-Level Editors Only)

Reference style:

Reference Video

I’m looking for a HIGH-LEVEL video editor who can produce cinematic, high-production YouTube videos with strong storytelling, advanced motion graphics, and polished pacing similar to the reference above.

Please DO NOT apply if your current portfolio does not match this level of quality.

I get a lot of replies every time I post, and most editors simply don’t match the quality/style I’m looking for. I only want editors who already have a portfolio filled with premium-level work.

What I’m looking for:
• Strong storytelling & retention-focused editing
• High-quality motion graphics (After Effects heavy workflow)
• Clean sound design, pacing, transitions, and visual flow
• Experience editing documentary/explainer/high-production YouTube content
• Ability to match premium YouTube styles

Before anything else, send:

  1. Your BEST portfolio/work
  2. Your rates
  3. Your favorite project you’ve edited

I’ll likely ask shortlisted editors to do a short demo edit first to make sure you can match the quality/style needed.

Budget:
₹40,000–₹80,000/month for a full-time editor
(Higher budget possible for genuinely exceptional editors)

I’m looking for someone long-term, not just random freelancers for one-off projects.

DM ONLY if your work genuinely matches the reference quality.

video material research: Is my profession too niche to exist as a standalone service??

Hi, I'm trying to understand the current market and my position in it, as I've been losing my mind a bit lately.

I (mid 30’s) have been doing footage/reference research (pre-viz) for the gtm strategy & campaign development of a top sportswear brand. This is through freelancing at an outsourced agency making internal brand films and social media content for the client.

My service:

  • I get briefed to find footage such as like “an establishing shot of a Korean male playing with his friends in this regional part of a country”, “videos of a subculture that uses sports in a way that is creative” or “a drone shot of this Norwegian neighbourhood that will unlock the brand film”.
  • I find them through video-hosting platforms, archive sources, and regional media — wouldn't say it's a specialised workflow, just an understanding of the brand direction/values, research methodology and platform logic, basically knowing where specific material could be.

The Problem:

My work is valued in this context but for several years now I haven’t been able to expand on other projects, clients through warm leads. I suspect most agencies absorb this into other roles, but this project requires enough volume of real-world material that it became its own thing.

I'm at a crosspoint, trying to either double down on this market, or look how can I further evolve into strategy or creative thinking roles.

  • Is this service useful or an anomaly in the current marketing landscape?
  • CD's: is this something that you see as a valuable add-on, or too specific to exist as a stand-alone service?

My argument is that it could be a counter point to homogenised reference material and AI visual ID in the future. [Providing unindexed or hard-to-find video material for references]

Some further context:

- I have a Master's in visual ethnography and also do videography/editing too.

- I came into this work sideways, so I don’t have a clear sense of where this role formally lives & where it could develop.

Thank you in advance!

I built an After Effects tool that reads your audio and places zooms for you

I’m a solo developer, and I built Cadence Cut & Zoom to read your audio, place rhythm-aware zooms, and speed up the repetitive part of editing without taking creative control away from the editor.

Throwback to when i added 3D models to a client documentary and it hit 2.8 million views

About a year ago I decided to push myself and try something I had never done before, integrating 3D models directly into my After Effects workflow for a documentary video.

I had no idea if it would work. It felt overcomplicated, risky, and honestly a little intimidating to add into a production pipeline that was already working fine.

But I did it anyway.

The video ended up getting almost 3 million views. The 3D elements made the visuals feel cinematic in a way that flat motion graphics never could, and viewers felt it (retention was almost a flat line)

I'm not saying 3D is the secret formula. But I am saying that the moment I stopped playing it safe with my editing style was the moment the numbers started moving.

If you're sitting on a technique you've been scared to try, a new plugin, a new workflow, a new visual style, just build a test project and run it. The worst case is that it doesn't work and you learn something.

Don't be afraid to experiment. The best upgrade you can make to your content is the one you keep putting off.

Posting videos without captions is killing your reach and you probably know it

Most people scroll with sound off. If there are no captions they are gone in 2 seconds.

The problem is adding captions feels like a whole second job after you already finished editing. So most people just skip it and wonder why their videos are not performing.

Here are the ways people actually deal with this:

- Add captions inside your editing software before exporting, most good ones charge a subscription though

- Use a dedicated captioning tool after export, works well but you are paying for two tools now

- Use a video export tool that burns in captions automatically during export, free ones exist and they cut the whole process to one step

- Hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you, cheap but adds a day or two to your workflow

What is your current setup?
