UNC transfer admit — paid deposit, set up ONYEN, but Carolina Countdown says “Invalid Login Attempt”

Hi everyone, I’m an admitted transfer student for UNC-Chapel Hill.

I already:

  • accepted my offer
  • paid my enrollment deposit
  • set up my ONYEN

But when I try to log into Carolina Countdown, I get “Invalid Login Attempt.”

Has this happened to anyone else? How long did it take after paying the deposit for Carolina Countdown to start working? Did you have to wait a few business days, or did you have to contact Admissions/ITS?

Any advice would help. Thanks!

Registering for Classes as a Transfer

UNC has been emailing me to register for classes as soon as I put my deposit down (which I did 3 days ago) but connect Carolina won’t allow me to register for any classes and none of my transfer credit is appearing. I am almost not get authorized to meet with an advisor yet. Is anyone else having the same issue. Do I just have to wait for the tech people to process my UNC account? Just worried about getting the classes I need to graduate on time.

Parent threatening to divorce if I go to Cornell vs UNC Chapel Hill (in-state)

I got into both Cornell and UNC Chapel Hill, and applied for Cornell in the first place because my parents agreed to being willing to pay for the cost of attendance. However, they didn't actually think I would actually get in (I didn't either), and now with a few days left to commit, one of my parents was threatening to divorce and separate her bank account if I went to Cornell instead of an in-state school. Literally one of the only reasons why they're still together is because of financial stability.

I didn't receive any aid, and their plan to pay for half (by only the parent who wants me to go) will leave me with $160K in debt with added interest after graduation. I really want to go, but I understand if I need to get hit with another reality check. If I go to Cornell, I really want to do CS for a top PhD program/network, but if I go to UNC, the only choice that's really feasible for me is the premed route to go to medical school.

I don't know what to choose, because I don't know if placating my parent to not divorce is worth missing the opportunity to change my life at Cornell.

How should I schedule CHEM 241, 261, and 262 for the next three semesters?

Hello, I am currently a freshman undergraduate on the pre-dental track, which means I have to take CHEM 241, 261, and 262, which I plan to take the next 3 semesters.

What I wanted to do was take Chem 241 and the lab next semester, then 261 and lastly 262. However, I currently have the class for CHEM 241, but I am waitlist spot 41 for the lab out of 20 spots. If I don't get the lab spot, that would mean I have to take just the class next semester, then take CHEM 261 and 241 lab at the same time in the spring.

My other option is to take CHEM 261 next semester, then hopefully get CHEM 241 and the lab in spring, and lastly CHEM 262 (I can't take CHEM 262 before 241 because 241 is a prerequisite).

For those who have gone through this pathway, what would you recommend? Obviously, I would rather take 241 with the lab, however I'm not sure if I want an entire semester in between taking 261 and 262. I also do not know how difficult it would be to balance the topics in 261 and 241L at the same time.

Thank you!

Indecisive

Hey yall. I’ve been trying to make a decision as to which university and major to enroll into and I’m not really arriving at a strong decision. For context, I’m finishing up my sophomore year at ECU as a CS major and I applied to NCSU for chem engineering as my first choice and comp engineering as my second choice since I’ve taken some solid CS courses with a 3.9 GPA but thought chem engineering wld give me a more “stable” route w the current job market plus my dad works in the field. I also applied to chapel hill but when I did that I didn’t think I’d get in at all so I applied for data science BS since my current coursework kinda fit perfectly for it and thought I had the best chance for getting into that major compared to the other majors. Now that transfer decisions are out and I got into chem engineering at NCSU and data science at chapel hill I’m not sure what to pick. As to why I didn’t think this through before decisions came out it’s because I didn’t think I’d get into both of them.

Before anyone says I shld choose what I’d rather want to study or do, I’m honestly the kind of person who hates studying and doing work at all I just also happen to be decent at it so I’d say the amount of interest I have in both majors are equal.

What I’m tryna ask is what do yall think are the positives and negatives to each choice and what wld yall pick?

Question About UNC CS Pathways as a Prospective Student

Hey guys, I’m a prospective UNC student deciding between a few options.

I’m really interested in low-level stuff (OS, embedded, robotics related programming). I was looking through the course list and saw classes like COMP 541 (digital logic/computer design) and COMP 581 (robotics), which seem really interesting.

But since UNC doesn’t have an engineering school, I’m wondering if anyone has felt limited pursuing this path through CS. I also saw a few research groups that caught my eye, how hard is it to get involved in undergrad CS research?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s tried going down this route. I've also been admitted into a few other engineering schools, but after touring, I like UNC's vibe the most.

Thanks

Credits not fully transferring?

Hello! I am a new transfer student from in state CC. It looks like my credits transferred but while registering for classes I noticed my Calc 2 wasn’t transferred?

I confirmed that it’s transferable because Calc 1 was transferred and I checked on UNC’s website. Does it take a bit for all credits to transfer? Or is this not supposed to happen? To help I took Calc 2 last fall.

TYIA!

some questions as a upcoming transfer

hi! I am a sophomore transfer girl with some questions! Any advice or general information would be great!

  1. I am looking for suggestions for housing! My budget is anywhere from 600-1400, but like mid 800s-1200s would be preferred! Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to live?
  2. I am planning on double-majoring in Econ and Poli Sci! I have heard mixed things about the Econ BA, though. Could anyone give any guidance on that as well?
  3. In general, any suggestions and advice for transfer students would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Liam - the perfect boy SPONSORED ADOPTION. Foster to adopt.

Liam is a beautiful boxer/Daffy mix who I have been fostering for a year and a half. He’s very laid-back and calm. Not destructive. obedient. E collar trained. Fully vetted. Athletic build. Likes everyone. Good with female dogs and non-reactive male dogs. Prey drive, so questionable with cats. About 70 pounds and 2 to 3 years old. He is always everyone’s favorite but no one yet has had room in their house for him. He’s the perfect boy.

Places on campus to develop film?

I know this is a bit of a weird question, so bear with me.

Is there a place on campus to obtain and develop film for a 35mm film camera that is free or on the cheap end? I’m an employee of UNC and would love to shoot some photos in my free time if there’s easy access to materials!

TIA!

Statement of identity?

Hello, I’m a transfer student and upcoming junior and I was curious if anyone knows why we have to submit a statement of identity? I was trying to access my financial aid package but they needed additional information to be able to complete my application which was the statement of identity, however, my sister is also an upcoming junior and transfer student at UNC but she didn’t have to do any of that and got all of her information right away. Could it be because I’m an independent student based off my own income? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

UNC Junior Pre-Med Transfer Advice

Does anyone to transferred to UNC as a junior pre-med have any experiences or advice to share with someone who wants to transfer?

Did it affect your ability to get leadership positions/ opportunities, were you able to transition easily to the class rigor, do you have any advice for what you wish you did before transferring (ie. classes to take at less rigorous institution, clubs to join, etc). Thanks!

UNC KF vs UCLA

Hi everyone, I’m a hs senior and my current options are unc (assured admit to kenan flagler) and ucla (business economics). I am out of state for both. I also have Boston college csom but I am leaning towards the first 2. I am interested in ib, and I’m fine to pay for any option (money isn’t criteria when deciding). Which school would you guys reccomend, and where would I have the easiest time placing. I also heard that being an oos student at unc would give me a leg up at the top finance clubs, so is that true as well, and should I take that into consideration? I would greatly appreciate any advice and help. Thanks!
