I had to decline

I was accepted, like what, a month ago? I was genuinely so happy. That night, I stayed up a while learning more about the engineering department and the uni as a whole. So amazing. A few days later, I got my financial aid package, 66k offered per YEAR. It was going to be cheaper than my state school.

When I went to Jumbo Days, even better. Five minutes after arriving, the AO who read my application RECOGNIZED me and said hello. I thought I hated Boston cuz of the cold, but once I gave the city a chance, wow, although it was pretty damn cold at 9. Everyone was so nice, students, faculty, and even talked with the dean of admissions, who knew my high school!

I know it was my place. I was even given the stern scholar engineering honor. I connected with admitted students whom I thought I would get to know and have chats with 50 yrs from now.

But no, after my financial aid appeals for Tufts and my state school came back, the choice was out of my hands. Tufts was still 35k a year, and my state school became practically debt-free.

I'm very grateful to be a part of my state's T20 engineering program, but I don't think I'm ever gonna forget Tufts bro. What hurt the most was declining my offer, which is what made me write this. Seeing my portal of lively students, faculty to connect with, and even the Stern honor, just go blank hurt so bad.

Anyways, tell me the WORST things about Tufts to help me out, I'm actually so sad

Did I make the right choice?

I can't help but keep wondering if I made the right choice EDing to Wellesley instead of Tufts. I got into Wellesley for 4.5k a year, and according to the NPC going to Tufts would have cost me 15k a year. But the thing is, I want to study public health and Tufts has way more classes for public health compared to Wellesley. I'm also interested in doing pre-med, which I know Tufts is really strong for, but I'm not sure about Wellesley.

Can I replicate my experience at Tufts with Wellesley? I'm first generation low income and I had a student aid index of -1500, so I wonder if I'm missing out any anything really major I would have gotten at Tufts. My thought is that if I miss out on career opportunities at Wellesley the ROI at Tufts would have made up for itself, so I feel kind of lost. I also wonder if I'm overlooking Wellesley for STEM.

I got into Tufts University

I was admitted off the waitlist today! I am so excited because this is one of my top schools and it is very personal for me because I have went through so much over the past few months. Senior year was genuinely the hardest year of my life personally and academically as an IBDP student. Finally seeing light at the end of this tunnel.

I plan to major in Civic Studies and hopefully also major or minor in Theatre or philosophy.

tufts vs ucsd!

hi... i just got off the tufts waitlist and i need to decide between ucsd and tufts and id love to get some advice

i'm not exactly sure what i want to do in the future, but i do want to do something in the medical field (not really pre-med.. pharma, dental, biotech, clinical psych, ux design/ai.. im keeping my options open).

ucsd pros:

- in-state tuition

- weather!

- visited and loved it so much

- i like my major (cognitive and behavioral neuroscience)

- biotech hub!

cons:

- harder to stand out/make connections in a larger environment

- will i get opportunity? competition

tufts:

- close knit, more support?

- academic rigor

- opportunities and proximity to boston, great for biotech and health

- the campus was nice when i visited! fairly nice size school

- i like the autonomy i get (tho im p sure ucsd would have the same)

- cool clinical psych program!

cons:

- price is more than double

- not my favorite location and weather-wise

- prefer campus of ucsd

- any more cons i should know about?

UCSD or Tufts?

Hi I was committed to UCSD to study Political Science but I recently got off the Tufts waitlist into their college of Arts and Sciences. I hope to study something related to finance or business but I'm also open to anything in STEM. That said, I was hoping to study Data Science at UCSD (which is kinda hard to get into) but I'd probably want to do Economics, Quantitative Economics, or Applied Math at Tufts. I live pretty close to Tufts so I have connections in the area, but the appeal of La Jolla is strong. Any recommendations?

All-Gender and Non-Binary Housing

Hi, I'm an incoming student and the housing survey just came out today. I identify under the non-binary umbrella and was wondering if any gender queer folks who've chosen the all-gender and non-binary housing feel about it? In the description it seems like they put all the students who indicate gender-queerness in the same hall?

Another unrelated but related question; they say there's no ACs in any halls except the courts, are halls without AC miserable?

Tufts or UCSB?

(M) For context I got into both schools, I live in California and the out of state money at tufts isn’t a problem. I come from a big high school and prioritize my education but also my social life so I’m feeling super stuck. I have until Friday to decide so please help me. I would also probably rush, definitely at tufts and maybe ucsb.

Tufts:

Small classes, everyone motivated, rigorous load, professors available, mid sized, not super active social life? Cold and snows

UCSB

Not seen as good academically, have lots of friends there already and who are going, everyone seems happy, amazing social life, still good school. Closer to home not sure if that’s good or bad. Way better weather

Understanding Fit at Tufts

Hi! I’m trying to understand the real student experience at Tufts University, especially for engineering.

I’m interested in engineering (possibly mechanical/physics), but I also care about, a collaborative and not overly intense environment, a campus that feels connected, being around people who are curious.

Tufts seems very balanced, but I’m trying to understand what that actually feels like day to day.

A few questions:

  1. What is the culture like in engineering (collaborative vs competitive)?
  2. How social is the campus, and what does that look like?
  3. Does the campus feel cohesive or more spread out?
  4. What kind of student thrives at Tufts?
  5. What surprised you most after enrolling?

I’m also comparing Tufts to schools like Northwestern, Duke, and Rice, so any insight there would be really helpful.

What’s your experience as a transfer (especially for the REAL program)? Any applied math majors? I want all the details!

I got accepted to the tufts REAL program! I’m so excited and want to know more about people’s experience. Most of the people on here are freshman from high school so I’m hoping to hear from people who have transferred or who have been/ are part of the REAL program.

My major is applied math, but I’m not trying to apply it to things like CS or the usual pathways. I’m wondering if anyone else has gotten a bachelors in applied math from tufts and what their experience was like. What minors did you pair with it, what were your goals with the major after graduation, and what experience you had post graduation as far as getting a job in your desired field.

I want all the information right now lol.

Tufts Waitlist

I just got off from Tufts SMFA waitlist!! I indeed have below-average stats, which proves Tufts cares more about your artworks if you are applying to art majors.

Prehealth Grade Deflation

I am in HS and want to go to PA school -or maybe med school. I heard that Tufts is a school that has grade deflation and am curious if that is true. It’s making me a little afraid to go there instead of another school that isn’t as selective and has “normal” grading.

Tufts or UW Madison?

For econ. Really struggling to decide. I'm from the greater Boston area but really loved UW's campus whereas the vibe at Tufts' just felt a little off. Would appreciate any insight.

Tufts vs Engineering Programs at UIUC, UW, Purdue...

Hi! I'm an incoming college freshman who was admitted to Tufts, UW Madison, UIUC, and Purdue for engineering. I have a few questions for any engineering students at Tufts!

- I was admitted for comp sci at the engineering school. How easy does it tend to be to transfer to a major like civil engineering?

- Are there lots of opportunities at Tufts for internships and research for civil engineering? I've seen stuff on the department website, obviously, but are these opportunities competitive or relatively easy to access?

- Is there lots of individualized focus Tufts? I've certainly heard that there is, but I just want to confirm because I know that the large state schools I got into have less interest per student.

- If you chose Tufts Engineering over one of these schools, either in-state or OOS, are you happy with your decision?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and if you have any insight at all please leave a comment! I really have no clue where I'm going to go to school and I'm still on two waitlists (Cornell and Princeton) so I'm really feeling down and conflicted.

Tufts or Wellesley?

I've been accepted to both Wellesley and Tufts and I really don't know which school to pick. I visited both and liked both. I think my main concern about Wellesley is I'm not sure I want to go to an all girls school and I'm worried it would feel a little limiting if that makes sense? I don't know what I want to major in (like not even sure if I want to do humanities or STEM), but I've heard being a humanities major at Tufts can feel a bit isolating since so many people are pre-med or studying IR. If anyone has any experiences or advice about Tufts that might help me decide please let me know!

Got waitlisted!

I’m holding on to so much hope for Tufts because it’s one of my top schools and I think my interests match with how they are focused on civic engagement, and I didn’t really have any luck with my other reaches. I’m submitting my deposit to Clark University (Worcester) where I’ll double major in Theatre and History and I’m happy about going there, but I’m highly anticipating waitlist movement from Tufts and hoping I get in from the waitlist.

I looked at trends for the past few years and it looks like compared to other schools, I might have a decent chance getting off the waitlist but I’m not sure especially since this year was a record for applications.. also i demonstrated need for aid so I hope that that doesn’t mess up my chances.

My stats are kind of competitive I would say (3.8 weighted GPA, Rank 9/700, 720 MATH 700 RW SAT, Full IBDP course load)

Any advice? Info?
