[Urgent] 12 weeks post-spine surgery, need help moving my dog from DMV to Tampa, FL to prevent shelter surrender.

Hi fellow pet parents, I had major spinal fusion surgery 12 weeks ago and am currently unemployed after surgery (have been, and continue to, applying daily since 3wks post op but no luck as of yet).My dog is in the DMV area with relatives (who agreed to watch her while I underwent surgery & recovery) who are now threatening to take her to a shelter if not picked up immediately. I am in Tampa and cannot physically or financially get to her right now.

I need to get her home to Tampa. I am looking for a volunteer "transport chain" or funds to cover gas/tolls if I am forced to drive (though my doctor has advised against it). Or if anybody is already traveling from the DMV to FL (anywhere in FL) that has space to bring my furbaby along 🙏

Estimated Costs (with a Toyota Corolla):

Gas: ~$235 (1,800 miles round trip)

Tolls: ~$45

Total Needed: $280

My baby is up to date on shots. If anyone is traveling I-95 South this week or can help with a small donation, please, please let me know. She is my world and my rock, I cannot imagine my life without her, much less imagine her suffering and confused at a shelter when she has a mommy who loves her so much and would never abandon her!

Even if you know of anybody in that area I could reach out to, or perhaps contacts of rescues/volunteer transports would he a huge lifesaver as well 🙏

I've already called a couple of shelters to ask if they have safety net fosters, but they told me they no longer do that and I could just post to rehome her, but I do not want to lose her!! I have also sent a couple of emails to some organizations about transport, but 1 responded that they're booked until after June and still awaiting to hear from the other one.

Traveling with a pet?!

What's the one thing nobody told you about traveling with a pet before you actually did it? mine is Bruno, 2 year old Doberman who takes up exactly half the bed and has absolutely no opinions about this arrangement 😭

Flying with my cat ^.^

Hey! I’m going to be flying with my cat next month from Pgh to Idaho. About a 9 ish hr trip. I have the reservation ready for her to fly with me.

While I’m glad that is taken care of, I need to prepare for the other fun parts. For those who have flown with a cat, what are some tips for litter? My cat is VERY vocal and gets anxious in a carrier. What are some medications that have worked for you? Also, anything I should be weary about while flying or look out for?

All your experiences help! I look forward to chatting!!

Hey all, I am flying into boston with my yorkie on delta. They said I don't need anything special and the only thing I can find on Boston is they may want a health certificate and a rabies vaccine.

My dogs rabies vaccine expires a couple days before we fly and I scheduled a rabies/health cert appointment at our vet for the day before we fly.

Is there an issue for a domestic flight and getting my dogs next rabies vaccine the day before we fly?

Any insight is really appreciated. This is my first time flying with our dog.

We're in the early stages of our visa process, and already bought our human flight tickets to avoid higher future prices and want to arrange our pet transportation as soon as is possible.

We're hoping for a one-and-done flight to ensure the dogs (who are not used to boarding) spend as little time as possible in transit (will likely traz them before their flight) and arrive with or slightly after us so we can collect them once we land the day after our flight embarks.

I'm at the very beginning of my research for this but I trust people more than google results so has anyone else here traveled to or migrated to Belgium/Netherlands with large dogs and who did you use? How were they? Did it seem like a good experience for your pet? And most importantly was it safe?

Airfreight companies that also handle the vet requirements for immigrating pets to avoid quarantine would be good too.

Hello, I’m having a nightmare trying to fly my two large dogs (27kg and 33kg) with me from UK to Calgary early June. I would prefer them to be on the same flight as me. I have nobody in Canada who can receive them on my behalf so they can’t fly out before me and I want to limit my time apart from them as much as possible. I want to fly direct to save travel time and possibilities for things to go wrong. I’m also trying to do it the most cost effective way.

Options I have explored so far:

Air Canada will only accept one dog per flight from LHR to YYC for some unknown reason. I’m flying on my own so I don’t know how I can make this work.

WestJet won’t fly dogs from the UK in the hold. I could drive to Paris and fly from there but that would be a headache.

British Airways go direct to Vancouver and then I could drive to Calgary from there but they only take pets in hold using their preferred partners which are £££.

Export companies that handle the process are £4000+. Also, I wouldn’t want my dogs to be separated from me for longer than necessary.

I’m really not sure what to do. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Any ideas for dog friendly to-do's on St John USVI? Hi! My husband & I went to St John USVI in August of 2017 & enjoyed our time. We're considering going back in the summer of 2027 with our extended family of 9 total (Parents - 60s/70s, siblings, 40s, kids 12-19) and our Cavalier King Charles, Paul. We've traveled quite a bit in the US with our dog - flying with him about 30 times now and also taking maybe 10-15 road trips. He's a good traveler and at this point if he can't go, we really don't want to. I'm somewhat unconcerned with getting to St John (we'll fly CVG to ATL, ATL to STT, and then ferry over to STJ). I know many folks have said that the island is NOT dog friendly overall. I'm ok with him mostly hanging out at the house/villa while we hike/beach/etc... it's too hot for him to be out generally mid-day anyway. And we'll probably be at the villa for 16-18 hours a day anyway knowing our family so he won't be alone long. That said - I'd love information from anyone who has traveled with their dog to St John! We will take him on a few hikes - early early in the morning before it gets hot and would love to take him with us to a few restaurants, bars, or breweries - again, I know we'll have to sit outside and there's not much- but what are your recommendations? Anything you've got as far as places to stay, activities, beaches (head Cruz, Salt Pond & Hansen), bars, etc!! thanks!

Hi! We have to travel to the UK for a couple of months, and we need to take our cats from the US.

What are the current best options to travel with them?

I understand that we can't carry them in the cabin - that we need to put them in cargo. But I've read somewhere that even this is not allowed. If it is actually allowed which airlines can we use, and how do we request that?

Ideally we can use a pet relocation service, but we can only afford something under $5k.

And we unfortunately can't travel through other countries - we only have a visa to the UK.

Would really appreciate any advice!
