What’s the fastest way a VR game loses your interest?
I’m working on a VR minigame project and trying to avoid the usual pitfalls.
Curious what instantly makes people go “nah I’m out”

Hey everyone, this is something that since oculus dk1 or basically when I was a child following the vr community I was passionate about. I always wanted to have and play a game like this with the community, and I feel im not the only one with this thought. It has been years since any games come close to the feeling of sword art online or any mmo rpg online that has an engaging world, physics, combat, crafting, resources, etc...
Watching animes like sao and that time I got reincarnated as a slime reminded me of this dream :)
I know there were some games that tried to do this but to my knowledge they are all either dead or abandoned :( zenith, a township tale, or busvr, we have subspace hunter on sidequest and the project aincrad world in vrchat... for combat blade and sorcery is often recommended but it just doesnt hit the same.
But we still lack that one massive complete experience. Btw, I know it is technically difficult to build and sustain such a game. And that its an idea generally known to have compatibility with flatscreen pc and console just to survive.
So lets revive this discussion. I want to know what you guys think about this and if we will ever get a game like that. :>
Looking at the top charts over the last year or so, it feels like the entire ecosystem has split into two very specific buckets. You've got the massive flood of Gorilla Tag clones taking over the movement/social side, and then for the action/combat side... we are permanently stuck in an endless loop of realistic military shooters and zombie wave-survival games.
Don't get me wrong, I've put a ton of hours into Pavlov, Contractors, and After the Fall. I respect the tech behind them. But how many times can we rack a slide and shoot a grey zombie in a dark hallway before the formula gets completely stale?
As a VR dev myself, I totally understand why studios rely on shooters—guns and flashlights just translate incredibly well to VR controllers. It’s the safest bet. But as a player, I'm just getting so tired of the exact same combat loop. It feels like the industry is so hyper-focused on perfecting "manual reloading" and gun physics that we are completely ignoring different ways to fight.
Outside of the Gorilla Tag movement trend, what action genres do you guys think are severely underrepresented in VR right now? Am I the only one experiencing this massive shooter fatigue?
Hello everyone. First off, I searched Reddit for exactly this type of question, But I just couldn’t find any actual recommendations, or at least on that’s somewhat recent.
I am looking for a game that I can play with a friend in CO-OP. We both have PcVR, I have also have a Quest 3. What games are there we could play together. We like Dungeon Crawler, RPG‘s and shooting games. But we are open to try new things as well. So what are some Good, specifically RECENT Games you would recommend as of April 2026.
Sorry if it’s a worn out question, I just couldn’t find any good recommendations.
Edit: the r/VRgamkng sub game list didn’t include CO-OP games as for my question. Thanks!
TL:DR Recommendation for any CO-OP games PCVR.
just built a new pc and suddenly my vr isn’t working
5070 TI is the GPU
I’ve updated all my drivers none of them are old or conflicting I redownloaded my GPU drivers removed all steam vr drivers
made sure all my cords and gpu was seated properly (they are) and still getting this issue in direct mode. if I’m not in direct mode it works but is very jagged
it runs for a good few seconds then for a second says head said has disconnected then shows the HMD ERROR
Earlier last week, I made a post in another VR sub venting my frustrations. I've been an indie VR dev in China for 8 years, and watching the domestic ecosystem collapse (Pico's massive layoffs, Qiyu going under), combined with Meta seemingly starving Reality Labs to chase the AI trend, put me in a really dark place.
It’s a brutal feeling when you pour your life into a project, launch it into EA, and only see a trickle of like 5 new players a day. I was honestly ready to throw in the towel.
But the response to that post surprised me. Instead of just agreeing that VR is dying, a massive chunk of the comments pointed to one specific thing: Valve’s upcoming Steam Frame.
People were calling it a massive positive shift and the lifeline we need. Since this is the PCVR hub, I wanted to bring the question directly to you guys for a reality check:
Is the Steam Frame actually the ecosystem reset we need, or are we just huffing hopium because we desperately want an alternative to Meta?
On paper, I get the hype. The idea of Valve stepping in with a standalone/PCVR hybrid running SteamOS sounds incredible. A hardware ecosystem built purely for gaming, breaking us out of the walled gardens, and directly connecting users to their Steam libraries.
But is that enough to actually bring the player base back to life and sustain indie devs? Or is it just going to be a niche device for hardcore enthusiasts?
I'm trying to figure out if I should keep pushing forward and focus my energy entirely on SteamVR. I’d love to hear your honest, unfiltered takes. Are you guys actually holding out for this?
Hello everyone!
Doing some research for an upcoming video documentary I am making and I really want everyone's opinion on the game, the good, the bad and the ugly as they say.
And please do include everything, optimization, UI, community, gameplay, mechanics. Everything you can think off! As detailed as possible!
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for some new VR games to play chill sessions with friends. I’m specifically looking for "Party Game" vibes – something easy to pick up, ideally with a collection of mini-games or just a very relaxed atmosphere.
Here is what I’m looking for:
Are there many options out there besides the obvious ones? I’d love to hear your hidden gems or personal favorites for a fun game night!
Thanks in advance! 🎮✨
I use SteamVR with an airlink to my quest 3, but every game gets very buggy and blurry. It makes games really annoying to play, and nothing is clear at all. Could anyone help?
hello so I got contracters exfill zone on steam vr when I joined steam link I looked around but there was a black box on the sides when i move my head but I can play the game with no lag or anything so please help
hello fellow VR gang!
I live in Denmark and are travelling to winterberg germany to ride some downhill this weekend, and i was curious to see if it's possible to host a steam link for my Meta quest 3 through my phone while my gaming setup stays at home?
or if i have to take the pc with me
Thanks :)
I don't have ethernet connection and i cant have one so how do i do ? It keeps laggin
(Edit : Guys i don't have enough money for a dedicated router i am still not an adult like i'm 14 so i can't manage by myself my wifi ;( i'm in my bedroom and the router is in the living room downstairs)
I tried setting steam vr up on my pc and quest 2 but it has the amd 6550M GPU which doesn't support it, so is there any alternatives or will it just not work
I am using a laptop with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 GPU (and Intel IGPU), and after I connected the laptop with my HTC Vive, and open a game, the headset screen flickers, and it's stuck on the "Next Up" screen, while on the Laptop the game shows up, and SteamVR gave me an error saying "Wrong Video Card", why is this happening, and what should I do?
i once forcefully closed roblox and all related vr processes to play a game in desktop mode, and now when i open steamVR and then open the roblox client it only shows roblox as a flatscreen game in desktop mode and does not enter vr mode despite it being turned on in settings and steamVR being set as the default openxr api, however only roblox studio seems to be able to be recognised by steamVR and the roblox game client runs as expected when you set the default openxr api to the meta horizon link app instead of steamVR and i feel like it may be some corrupt config/registry with both roblox and steamVR as when i launch the roblox client after launching steamVR as the default openxr api it shows minimal signs of activity when i turn on "Display Performance Graph".
I have currently tried the following below with steamVR and roblox:
and here is my current setup:
all help is very appreciated from anyone, thank you!
Hello all. I've been researching and testing on and off for weeks and finally decided to ask for help.
For starters, I'm not a tech Luddite but neither am I a tech wiz. I would argue I'm above average but not quite "nerd" level. I have wanted to play VR BADLY for years and finally could afford it with Quest 3S. So I'm trying to set it up but no matter what guide I follow, the quality is trash, barely playable (pixelated, lagging to the point of "black" screen, stuttering and missing inputs). I'm almost ready to give up. I've never had to work this hard in my life to play a game other than modded games with outdated mods on old games.
Current setup: Wifi is on other side of house from computer. Router is rented through property management. Not within my control. Computer meets required specs but is on the low end. Need to save up for a better GPU provided my power supply can handle it.
Latest problem: I followed a guide (I tried to supply a youtube link but it auto-removed the post) for wired PCVR and everything works EXCEPT that the "VR mode" button won't appear. I looked in my Steam settings for taskbar buttons and it is checked but still won't appear. I tested USB connection and it passes. Everything should work but it doesn't. Every work around I've looked up simply doesn't work or does not apply.
Next proposed solution: Ethernet direct from router to computer. Cable would need to be 60+ feet and go through multiple rooms. I rent a room and don't want to damage the flooring of the main space with adhesive cable covers. But if this addresses latency and bandwidth I can just use SteamVR which connects without fail, just not well.
Is there something I'm missing? Is there a cheap alternative? I'm running on financially harsh times so I cannot drop hundreds of dollars on a mesh Wifi 6 system and Virtual Desktop which seems to be the most popular (and most expensive) solution.
Honestly I just want it to work reliably. It doesn't need to be great settings. I'm running it wirelessly like a potato in the main room next to the router now but it's still stuttering which makes games nearly unplayable. This is why I opted for the wired route to skip the rest. I'll try to supply info to the best of my ability but please understand I don't have a computer science degree nor 50 hours to mess around in settings and testing. At that point I'm returning the device and buying an old vive on auction.
edited for clarity.
Buy EXD here on Steam!
I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I need help! - Also, “Reddit Filters” removed my post from ValveIndex.
My setup:
Virtual Desktop
Quest Pro
Vive Base Station 2.0 (x3)
Vive Tracker 3.0 (x7)
Valve Index Controllers
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
AMD Ryzen 5 5500
I’m having tracking problems with my Index controllers when using my Quest Pro. The controllers randomly jitter or lose tracking for a moment, and sometimes briefly disconnect. This started after I stopped using my Index headset as the receiver and switched to using Watchman Dongles from VRDongles.com instead. I have three base stations and good visibility, so I don’t think it’s a tracking coverage issue. I tested with a very simple setup (no extra programs), and the problem still happens. I also reduced my setup to just the two controllers and one tracker, but it didn’t fix it. When I switched which controller was paired to which dongle, the problem followed the dongle instead of the controller. Then when I moved the dongles to different USB ports, both controllers started having issues. Other devices like my Quest Pro connection work fine. I’ve also updated all drivers and reset SteamVR USB devices. At this point, it seems like the issue is related to the dongles or USB ports rather than the controllers, base stations, or performance. Am I overlooking something? Maybe it’s the hardware of the dongle itself?
For those who like playing VR games seated, what do you think are some good chairs for this purpose?
I guess you probably want something without armrests.
Do any of you have specific chairs you like?
Ive completely uninstalled and reinstalled bith oculus/meta and steam vr but nothing has fixed it
