Well after almost 2 years, I’m finally free. Today is officially my last day. This company is one of the worst companies I’ve ever worked for, and I pray for yall to unionize or find something else because no one deserves this job that treats them like shit. There are so many reasons I’m quitting, and honestly I don’t even care how specific they are. Some of this stuff happened to my coworkers, not just me, but it’s definitely part of the reason I’m leaving.
•In the time that I have worked with Sally’s, we have had FIVE store managers, two of which have gotten fired for various reasons
•in between hiring managers, I was forced to play enacting manager and when asked for enacting manager pay, I was told “we don’t do that anymore”
•For the longest time, because I was the oldest and the one who had been there the longest, that meant I was automatically responsible if anyone broke rules, leading to disciplinary action being taken against me first and foremost
•Every winter they cut my hours down to 10 hours a week with the excuse “oh your numbers aren’t good enough” even tho I would have better numbers than the managers half the time
•They couldn’t give a shit less about why you are calling off, even if you are in active miscarriage, they want you there
•Getting wrote up because some customer stole tons of stuff when I was single coverage, but because I didn’t confront her even though she was on the phone talking about threatening Sally’s workers for following her (not even kidding) I get a write up
•Lack of shared knowledge between managers. Not a single person has any clue what they are talking about, if fact they will all tell you something different
•Unless you are throat deep on someone’s boot don’t even think about raises or higher positions, because they will string you along for well over a year saying “you just don’t seem ready yet” but then they’ll hire someone who’s never worked for Sally’s or never even been a manager before instead
•They play around on your reviews each year, if your manager tries to give you all good scores, it gets rejected and you’ll have to be stuck with all low scores and a .15 cent raise if your lucky
•Instead of giving safety measures and protections, we had to split shifts in half so that there’s someone in the store while creepy men stalk and harass the employees because they are trying to come in when people are single coverage.
•the company stopped giving free samples, and stopped doing as many spiffs because they are losing too much money and taking it out on the employees, also explaining why your hours are actually getting cut
•the weekly calls 90% of the time are prolly people sitting around tell your district manager how awesome and amazing they are (was told this by a previous manager) and unless you join in you are seen as an outsider
•You could lie to people all day everyday, you could have $200+ returns, but if your upt and aur looks pretty enough, they couldn’t care less. You could fry someone hair smooth off for all they care
•80% of managers are on a power trip, they make their own rules, demand you obey them, and will even uphold those same rules in different stores when helping out
•When you are low staffed you are expected to have full open availability, and if you don’t you are the scum on their shoe
•Had managers ask me “is this really what you want to do with your life?” Because I had a low upt for a few weeks after a very traumatic event happened to me
•Knocked off a ton of money off our quarter deficit by stepping in as manager for a week (without the extra pay of course) but when they got the new manager in only congratulated her on all the hard work she’s done on the team, even though a good chunk of that was from me
•Had multiple times where managers and district managers have misgendered customers and associates even with knowing their pronouns in the name of “they just don’t get it”
•The company has set up a system of competition, so you’ll have to fight with people over full time, over transactions, and if you don’t, you are deemed as “not trying” and your “numbers aren’t up to par”
•They will expect you to march through 5 feet of snow in the freezing cold to get there, because heaven forbid you call off in a level 2
•You’ll be promised full time in the interview then laughed at when you press the issue again after being hired
•This company would rather use AI than support real artist and designers, even when they spell things wrong, have weird looking images, or even bad advertising because they can’t afford real work.
•Most of the companies Sally’s carry support the genocide on Palestine, and the want you to push those brands over anything else
•They expect you to assist ICE by allowing them in the store to kidnap your coworkers and customers.
•There is really no good training that Sally’s offers for new hires, unless you want to become a CC, you won’t get the necessary training you need to effectively do your job
•They want you to work more and do more as a color consultant with absolutely zero extra pay
•Absolutely zero grace period for being late. Clocked in late by 1 minute? You can get wrote up. If you open up the store late once even if there’s a car accident and you are late 1 minute on a different day, they will fire you, but only if they want you gone enough. They’ll look the other way if your numbers are just good enough.
•Only offering 1 full time position per story is a terrible practice, and not disclosing that to new hires is a scam quite frankly
•Most other companies have the managers close and open, and pay way more
•We are expected to count the drawers in front of large, open windows for the world to see, making it so much more likely to be robbed
•Being told we can’t contact our own store manager when they aren’t in and have to call other store managers, who would have no idea about half the stuff going on in our store because they aren’t here
•Told that I’m not allowed to have my mobility aids unless Hartford approves it first
•the constant use of AI by customers and we are told that we have to work with them to get them the impossible results that they want
•Unless you read through every policy there’s no way to protect yourself from they lies that managers make up
•Empty promises of Asm positions constantly
•They fail to tell you about manager bonuses if you meet sales goal, which is also why managers get on such big power trips because they resent you if you have any part of them losing out on their bonuses
•Then, at the end of it all, you’ll put in your notice and they will beg you up and down to stay, because they’ve never had a better employee
Honest to god, fuck this company, and every single one of you deserves better. They see you as a number. Remember that.
Wanted to share some positivity. I absolutely love my team. ☺️
I was manager at Sephora for 4 years, until I decided to move out of state for my husband’s job. During that transition, I found out some health issues that I needed to deal with and decided it wasn’t best to be a manager while going through this. Decided to work at Sally’s as a BA, just to do something beauty related.
When I started it was great! I loved my coworkers and my SM. I learned so much about hair and became a CC. That quickly changed when she left and FOUR months later we had a new SM. All five coworkers but me left because how awful our new sm was. She was careless, untrained, always in the back, never discussed numbers with us unless they were bad. Just very negative and no leadership or ownership at all.
It’s been six months and I don’t know how much more I can take. I’m the strongest on the team and she leans on me more than I lean on her. I do 90% of the pogs and Athena tasks. I do ALL, yes ALL price changes, clearance, corp damages for the past 6 months. Mind you I do all of this and still have the most sales, trans, credit cards and highest UPT.
She has taken no initiative to call pros or build relationships with them. She expects me to do it. There are only two other BAs and they need more training desperately.
The newest BA is her family member. I won’t say the relation just incase. But it’s close enough they’re always together and watching each others kids. It’s a nightmare to work with them together. The stay in the back and it’s always family drama. Her family member contributes nothing. She stays talking on the phone, sitting down, eating or outside vaping. She’s always late or calls out and hasn’t been penalized once. I’ve documented in my phone at least 7 she was late or called out in two months. And that’s just the shifts I worked with her. It just feels extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. Not to mention the stress it has put on me and my other coworker, who is really trying.
This isn’t supposed to be a stressful job. We’re selling hair color and shampoo, not doing open heart surgery. But she has made it so stressful. I tried to be nice and patient because her training obviously sucked. But enough is enough.
How are you scheduled at 8am for box set and not have it done by 10? All she had to do was signs and the window clings!!!!
Should I have an honest conversation with my DM? I could report to HR but it’ll just get back to the DM anyways. I just want to enjoy my job again 😔
Serial returner
My store has this lady who comes in and buys polishes, dips, or tips, does her manicure, then comes in to return the product, or exchange it for her next color. Is there anything we can do?? She comes in once a week with this bs.
I have been working in sally beauty in the long island location (levittown) for 2 years now ? But i am debating on quitting and i genuinely stopped giving a shit about this job. Personally the only reason why i stayed in this job is because i am working in film and it is associated with makeup and hair. I learned a lot of hair products from working here and hair types from every customer. That i apply this to my main job. (I am a full time makeup artist in film). But as of recently my 2 managers have made it difficult for me to stay. I made it clear that i work either 1-2 weeks on a film set. Sometimes i have to travel out of state. For 2 weeks a lot. Or if necessary i will work in a month on 1 feature film. They do make comments on my call outs. But i make more money when im freelancing (debating on my call sheet times). I prefer having a second income or job just so i can have money aside for more projects. But its hard finding a job that is willing to allow you to take days off or time off in a month. I appreciate my manager to have given this time off to focus on my job. Because not a lot of managers give a shit. And most of my colleagues are younger than me in college.. (Im 27female). And they take this job seriously while i dont give a fuck about retail.
But as of recently my care to customer service dropped to me not giving a fuck. I will be straight up with my customers. None of that fake nice customer service voice will be there. I stopped telling customers to sign up for the credit cards. And im not forcing them to buy more things (relating to upt). My managers are present mostly. And i know i give them reasons to fire me or something. But the reason why I’m staying is until something big happens thats when Im quitting. I do hate that one of them plays favourites with other coworkers of mine. Like bro i genuinely don’t care anymore. Even my own coworkers act like they know their shit. Or have better experiences. But im still neck deep in my career that i have my shit together and im ready to walk away or even block all of them.
I respect this job for what i learned and what advice or expertise i offer to customers. I just genuinely hate retail and its boot licking managers and coworkers to meet their standards. It disgusts me. But i respect the people that work in these jobs.
If you have the chance PLEASE change your stores station to the divas channel its SOO good and uplifting and has bops for days
Hello! For some context, I am a BA and Ive been with Sally's for going on a year now. I get padi 13.22 an hour and the .22 cent was a raise. I like working here, but I can not live off this pay. I recently received a new job at Target for 15.75, but I do not find myself liking all that much. I havent put my two weeks in, but I am willing to stay with Sally's for atleast 14 an hour (I can work with it lol). I know there is a BA at my store that is getting paid 14.50 starting off just because he knew my manager from a previous store. I was wondering if yall have any advice about potentially mentioning receiving a higher pay to stay or just straight up leave?
I havent recived any info from sally beauty on how to recive the payment for the hours i was clocked in any advice?
What is something a customer said that had you staring at them like this?
i never got my points?
i’ve been waiting for my points but it’s been a month and they haven’t shown up?? i spent $115 i would love to get points for that 😭😭
Like wym ‘requires expiration date’ but the product 9/10 NEVER HAS IT!
It feels like theres 10-15 things on this list that actually can be checked 😭
This shit is so uncanny I'm so disappointed in camille rose
If corporate suddenly put mics in the cameras how fucked would your store be?
How many hours does your store get
I want to test something because I’m sick of my store specifically not getting enough hours. You mean to tell me that our hours are cut so much that we don't have much coverage and have to work by ourselves for over 5 hours? What the fuck is going on? How do they expect their business to run if they can’t give stores hours??
Hello, I just want to know if I should call HR or my SMs boss. I posted a few days ago about how she was treating me when a loved one passed away and how she is asking for proof. I found out yesterday that the person she has over there is from another store, that my SM told him that she’s giving him all my hours because she’s trying to get rid of me. So she cut my hours out of retaliation. It was definitely a targeted thing. So I feel like this is enough evidence on top of everything since I’ve been working at Sally’s and then the treatment recently. I also have a question what’s the hotline in Arizona? We don’t have it. Thank you for your time.
Well it’s been a year since I left the shackles of Sally beauty. I was an SM and quit on spot, threw my keys in the safe, blocked my DM and didn’t look back. Boy oh boy has this been the best year. I’m no longer stressed about a company who couldn’t care less about me. UPT? Haven’t even heard of her. I make $5 more an hour and am actually appreciated where I work, PLUS I do way less work for way more money. If you are battling with the idea of leaving, just do it. I left with no plan and I have no regrets, I would do it all over again. FUCK sally beauty. Fuck Jo, Fuck Yutta and fuckkkkkk BRIDGET
