Well after almost 2 years, I’m finally free. Today is officially my last day. This company is one of the worst companies I’ve ever worked for, and I pray for yall to unionize or find something else because no one deserves this job that treats them like shit. There are so many reasons I’m quitting, and honestly I don’t even care how specific they are. Some of this stuff happened to my coworkers, not just me, but it’s definitely part of the reason I’m leaving.

•In the time that I have worked with Sally’s, we have had FIVE store managers, two of which have gotten fired for various reasons

•in between hiring managers, I was forced to play enacting manager and when asked for enacting manager pay, I was told “we don’t do that anymore”

•For the longest time, because I was the oldest and the one who had been there the longest, that meant I was automatically responsible if anyone broke rules, leading to disciplinary action being taken against me first and foremost

•Every winter they cut my hours down to 10 hours a week with the excuse “oh your numbers aren’t good enough” even tho I would have better numbers than the managers half the time

•They couldn’t give a shit less about why you are calling off, even if you are in active miscarriage, they want you there

•Getting wrote up because some customer stole tons of stuff when I was single coverage, but because I didn’t confront her even though she was on the phone talking about threatening Sally’s workers for following her (not even kidding) I get a write up

•Lack of shared knowledge between managers. Not a single person has any clue what they are talking about, if fact they will all tell you something different

•Unless you are throat deep on someone’s boot don’t even think about raises or higher positions, because they will string you along for well over a year saying “you just don’t seem ready yet” but then they’ll hire someone who’s never worked for Sally’s or never even been a manager before instead

•They play around on your reviews each year, if your manager tries to give you all good scores, it gets rejected and you’ll have to be stuck with all low scores and a .15 cent raise if your lucky

•Instead of giving safety measures and protections, we had to split shifts in half so that there’s someone in the store while creepy men stalk and harass the employees because they are trying to come in when people are single coverage.

•the company stopped giving free samples, and stopped doing as many spiffs because they are losing too much money and taking it out on the employees, also explaining why your hours are actually getting cut

•the weekly calls 90% of the time are prolly people sitting around tell your district manager how awesome and amazing they are (was told this by a previous manager) and unless you join in you are seen as an outsider

•You could lie to people all day everyday, you could have $200+ returns, but if your upt and aur looks pretty enough, they couldn’t care less. You could fry someone hair smooth off for all they care

•80% of managers are on a power trip, they make their own rules, demand you obey them, and will even uphold those same rules in different stores when helping out

•When you are low staffed you are expected to have full open availability, and if you don’t you are the scum on their shoe

•Had managers ask me “is this really what you want to do with your life?” Because I had a low upt for a few weeks after a very traumatic event happened to me

•Knocked off a ton of money off our quarter deficit by stepping in as manager for a week (without the extra pay of course) but when they got the new manager in only congratulated her on all the hard work she’s done on the team, even though a good chunk of that was from me

•Had multiple times where managers and district managers have misgendered customers and associates even with knowing their pronouns in the name of “they just don’t get it”

•The company has set up a system of competition, so you’ll have to fight with people over full time, over transactions, and if you don’t, you are deemed as “not trying” and your “numbers aren’t up to par”

•They will expect you to march through 5 feet of snow in the freezing cold to get there, because heaven forbid you call off in a level 2

•You’ll be promised full time in the interview then laughed at when you press the issue again after being hired

•This company would rather use AI than support real artist and designers, even when they spell things wrong, have weird looking images, or even bad advertising because they can’t afford real work.

•Most of the companies Sally’s carry support the genocide on Palestine, and the want you to push those brands over anything else

•They expect you to assist ICE by allowing them in the store to kidnap your coworkers and customers.

•There is really no good training that Sally’s offers for new hires, unless you want to become a CC, you won’t get the necessary training you need to effectively do your job

•They want you to work more and do more as a color consultant with absolutely zero extra pay

•Absolutely zero grace period for being late. Clocked in late by 1 minute? You can get wrote up. If you open up the store late once even if there’s a car accident and you are late 1 minute on a different day, they will fire you, but only if they want you gone enough. They’ll look the other way if your numbers are just good enough.

•Only offering 1 full time position per story is a terrible practice, and not disclosing that to new hires is a scam quite frankly

•Most other companies have the managers close and open, and pay way more

•We are expected to count the drawers in front of large, open windows for the world to see, making it so much more likely to be robbed

•Being told we can’t contact our own store manager when they aren’t in and have to call other store managers, who would have no idea about half the stuff going on in our store because they aren’t here

•Told that I’m not allowed to have my mobility aids unless Hartford approves it first

•the constant use of AI by customers and we are told that we have to work with them to get them the impossible results that they want

•Unless you read through every policy there’s no way to protect yourself from they lies that managers make up

•Empty promises of Asm positions constantly

•They fail to tell you about manager bonuses if you meet sales goal, which is also why managers get on such big power trips because they resent you if you have any part of them losing out on their bonuses

•Then, at the end of it all, you’ll put in your notice and they will beg you up and down to stay, because they’ve never had a better employee

Honest to god, fuck this company, and every single one of you deserves better. They see you as a number. Remember that.
