Title: GTA V on Steam won’t activate / Rockstar Launcher says disconnected — tried everything for 2 months

I’m desperate at this point and looking for help.

I bought GTA V on Steam around 10 years ago. It used to work fine, but for the past 2 months I haven’t been able to launch it at all.

When I try to open GTA V / GTA V Legacy from Steam, it asks me to activate Grand Theft Auto for my Rockstar account. After I sign in, the Rockstar Launcher says I’m disconnected from Rockstar’s platform / Social Club and the game refuses to launch.

I already contacted Rockstar Support and opened a ticket. Their support mostly gave me the usual copy-paste troubleshooting steps, but nothing fixed it. They escalated it to Tier 2, gave me GTA$1,500,000 as compensation, but the actual problem is still not solved and I still can’t play the game.

Things I have already tried:

• Clean reinstall of Rockstar Games Launcher
• Deleted Rockstar Launcher / Social Club folders from Documents and Program Files
• Reinstalled the launcher through Steam
• Reinstalled GTA V
• Verified Steam game files
• Logged out and back into Rockstar / Steam
• Restarted PC multiple times
• Restarted router
• Flushed DNS
• Checked firewall settings
• Added Rockstar Launcher as an antivirus / firewall exception
• Checked if antivirus was blocking anything
• Cleared launcher files and logs
• Renamed / deleted Rockstar folders
• Tried uploading logs and screenshots to Rockstar Support, but even their support chat was bugging out with “missing or unexpected input”
• Tried basically every public fix I could find online
• Cleared launcher files and logs
• Blocked and unblocked inbound firewall rules
• Tried random community fixes people claimed worked
• NOTHING WORKS!!??

Rockstar keeps telling me it may be an internet / firewall / antivirus issue, but the game worked fine before, and nothing on my end seems to fix it.

The main error flow is:

1. Launch GTA V from Steam
2. Rockstar Launcher opens
3. It asks me to activate the game for my Rockstar account
4. I sign in
5. It says I’m disconnected from Rockstar Launcher / Social Club
6. GTA V doesn’t launch

At this point I’ve wasted days trying to fix a game I already paid for and legally own on Steam. I’m not looking for generic advice like “reinstall the launcher” because I’ve done that multiple times.

Has anyone fixed this specific issue where GTA V on Steam asks for activation and then Rockstar Launcher says disconnected? Could this be an account-linking issue between Steam and Rockstar, a Social Club token problem, or something broken on Rockstar’s side?

Any real help would be appreciated. I honestly just want to play the game again.

Honestly at this point I'm just gonna sue Rockstar.

Rockstar Support has honestly been a joke through this whole thing. They keep ignoring my submissions and marking my requests as “resolved” when they literally have not resolved anything. In most cases, they haven’t even properly replied before closing the ticket. The issue is still exactly the same: GTA V asks me to activate my account, then says I’m disconnected from Rockstar Launcher / Social Club, and I still can’t play the game I paid for. I’m sick of getting copy-paste replies, being told to repeat the same basic troubleshooting steps, and then having the ticket treated like the problem is fixed when nothing has changed.

• With VPN, without VPN
• New emails, new usernames, DNS changes, router resets, incognito, time sync…
• I’m an IT network engineer and even I can’t get past your clown show.

I contacted support, they sent me links to the 2-factor types I may have used, but the account isn't listed in the auth app I used.

They gave me no other way to verify it's my account, yet they're emailing me on my email account and so what I'm just locked out? I've had an account for over 15 years.

Any other way to recover my account?

Gente es increible esto, realmente me robaron la cuenta en 2022 sin siquiera avisarme al mail y ahora resulta que no pueden verificar que la cuenta es mia, cuando esta vinculada a mi steam y le mande fotos comprobandolo de que tengo el gta 5 en steam y cuando lo compre y cree la cuenta, realmente indigna que dsp de 30 boletos lo unico q te digan cada vez es, no pudimos verificar que la cuenta sea tuya.

I have a GTA Online account originally created on PS4 back in 2017. In 2023, my console broke down, and I lost access to my progress. I had enabled 2-Step Verification (2FA) in 2020, but when I bought an Xbox Series X in 2024 and tried to log in, I realized the Rockstar code generator was missing from my Google Authenticator app.

I initially created a new account out of frustration, but I want to recover my original progress. I can provide all necessary proof to demonstrate ownership of the PS4 account, including my PSN credentials and the Rockstar Games account password. However, since I no longer have the 2FA codes, I am requesting them to please disable the 2-Step Verification on my account so I can log in and link it to my new console.
Any tips and advises?

I’m in a stupid situation. A year ago, I migrated my PC character to the Enhanced version, but my friends couldn't play it because of technical issues. I went back to Legacy to play with them and made huge progress there (rank, money, businesses). Now my friends quit the game, and I want to finally move to Enhanced. I’m even willing to pay for GTA+ and buy the new upgrades, but Rockstar Support says "no." They won't reset my migration flag or overwrite my old Enhanced save with my current progress.

I’ve been through three levels of support, and they basically told me that my last year of progress is wasted and they won't help. It's ridiculous—I’m literally trying to give them money, but they’d rather I quit the game than click "reset" on my account.

Has anyone ever won a fight like this with them, or is it time to just uninstall?

I lost my 2FA key on Google app a while ago(it was not backed up in the cloud), and now I can't access my Rockstar account which I created in 2014. I tried opening tickets, only got automated response that they are unable to determine if I'm the owner. I provided them with a screenshot of them sending me notification about a friend request, I provided them with a cd-key I used to activate GTA 5 in 2016, I provided them with my linked accounts. I don't remember when exactly I created the account. All I know I only get automated responses. I managed to dig up an e-mail with confirmation of 2FA creation of my account, but now I can't submit any new tickets. I tried from a phone, from different browsers on my PC and nothing. Is there anything I can do now? I'm totally lost and very displeased.

Whenever I try to login into social club it tells me an unexpected error has occurred with error code 1.000.0 I have tried everything to get it to work but it just doesn't work i tried using my phone to login still same error I used the mobile data instead of my wifi same error Used vpn,changed dns to Googles dns,changed dns to cloudflare dns all of this and it gives me the exact same error

Hey, I recently made a ticket on Rockstar Support because my Epic Games account where I have GTA 5 was connected to some random Rockstar Games account. I made 2 tickets from one account and one on the other to Rockstar and they don't respond to either of it. Did anyone have problem with them too?

It has been a long time from now since I try to recover my old account in which I have GTA5 and all my online achievements and I still cannot get a proper help from the support.

I keep getting forwarded to useless links to try and solve this issue myself. I am aware of the problem that I have and if I could solve it myself I would not submit a ticket so do not bother sending me links to other stuff to resolve my issue. I own this account from a long time now and I also have other games in it. I still use the same Epic Games account but I just have lost access to the 2FA used in this email for Rockstar account and I am not able to recover it. I know that it is a very easy step for the support to remove it if I confirm that this account owner is me and I am ready to give the details to prove that this is me!

This account is linked to Epic Games in which I still have access and play games. When I open GTA 5 via Epic Games, it won't require any Rockstar login and I can play the game. If I try to open Rockstar Launcher via Steam (so I can connect my ps5 controller and play with it), it will require login, for which I can log in since I am able to reset my password via the email that I still own, but I cannot have access to the 2FA.

I also find it funny having conversation in the email that I am requesting for help in 2FA...

Please stop randomly closing tickets if you can't help
