new gen reverend worth it?

Hi, I’m trying to get as much information as possible before buying my first Reverend guitar.

The place where I live doesn’t have any new-gen Reverends in stock, but the old-gen ones are on sale.

I can get a Double Agent OG for around $700, while the new-gen Charger 290 is around $1,400.

I really love the metallic pickguard and the natural-finished back of the new gen, but I don’t know if it’s worth paying twice the price.

If any of you have experience with both the new and old generations and could share your thoughts, it would be really helpful.

Disclaimer for the rev teardrop hardcases..

Love this double agent and was really excited to have a nice Hardcase for it.. but got nervous as soon as I saw how small it was. At first I was bummed because there was no room to keep the strap on, but its not a big deal to take that off and roll it up. It's 2.5" leather and barely fits.. but I also have a les trem on this guitar which doesn't let the lid close.. I can force it but I don't like doing that.. oh well I guess it's getting returned for a soft case :/ anyways just making this post as a warning to anyone with a les trem.

My son and I visited Hank's Music Exchange in Portland (Oregon), and I was stoked to see they had a bunch of interesting Reverends with great prices. Apparently there was an expo in town and the Reverend rep made a deal to get them started with some of the show guitars. I have a sensei but I hadn't seen one with two P90's before. I'm not sure if this is good for me or not. I just want to go back now. Trouble.

I'm in the market for a Reverend and I see these 3 options available to me right now on the market.

FWIW I have 2 telecasters already which I love and also 2 7-string charvels for metal.

I'm attracted to getting a Reverend that is pretty different from these but also not sure what to get. They all look sick. The double agent OG is in a color I like but I dont really like the tune o matic bridge purely because i dont like the way it looks lol. Then theres the Crosscut which has the railhammers which is cool, and I think solves the complaint I have on my telecasters which is noisy ass pickups. Then theres the 290 which I like because the pickups just look cool and I've never had a P90 guitar before.

Any suggestions here appreciated. Thanks!

I broke my back about 6 years ago and since then I’ve built my setup for standing so I can play longer without pain (sitting).

Anyways here’s my collection. Favourite is tied between the Reverend and the AM jazzmaster. The tele is 7lbs flat so it is also played a lot. The Robert Smith old ultracure is special but heavy. The Tom DeLonge knockoff (amazing, with replaced genuine Seymour pickup) is even lighter but a one trick pony. Mustang is new with tone hatch pickups.

I just took delivery of a Pete Anderson Eastsider and I have several questions.

#1 This guitar came from a major national vendor that advertises a "55-point Inspection". But the nut on this guitar is blown on two of the six strings. I have a call in to my Sales Rep and will ask him about this on Monday.

And the ends of the frets really need to be dressed, but I don't really expect this on a $1400 guitar. Are other Reverend owners here happy with the neck and fret work on their guitar?

#2 I was interested in this guitar because it is supposed to be made of Korina wood. I have other Korina guitars, and this Eastsider is really light-weight compared to my other Korina guitars (Gibson and Martin). I see that the Eastsider is chambered, but I don't see a weight spec. This guitar weighs a LOT less than my other Ash and Alder Teles.

Also, the "grain" on the body looks like contact paper, not real wood. Is that because of the matte finish, or is this guitar really made of chambered solid Korina hardwood?

#3 The pickups sound pretty good, does anyone know who Reverend gets them from? I saw another post here that somebody thought his guitar had Lollars.

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone played, or seen, any of the new Sensei 290 guitars yet? I've only seen reviews of the H90 and HH versions so far...

How feasible is swapping out the H pickup for a 290? I wish the Sensei 290 was available in High Tide Blue. They don't appear the same dimensions, but the H looks larger, so maybe there'd just be a gap around the P90? I have zero experience doing this with any guitar, forgive my ignorance with the process

I've wanted a reverend for a while because I really like the modern/classic style blend that they have. And when I heard about the type of sound that the Railhammer pickups had I knew that I would really like them. And this guitar is truly great, Reverend guitars deserve the small amount of hype they get and more. It's very satisfying to play and only needed a basic setup which I did myself.

Sweetwater had this one as an open box for 400 dollars off because of a tiny little hair in the finish, so I got an amazing deal as well.

One of my pickup wire solder joints broke. The wiring was a mess and I was having trouble tracking down what broke off, and where it was supposed to go back. I decided to rip it all out and re-wire it from scratch but quickly got in over my head.

After much googling and research the closest thing I could find was the American Player II Telecaster (which had the push pull knob, but I don't think it was wired the same way?)

I redid the whole thing to the American Player II diagram, replaced a treble bleed circuit that had been previously installed (again not sure if that came stock). But now, the guitar sounds different. It used to be fat and full bodied, now it sounds chimey and anemic, especially in the bridge position. I tried adjusting with pickup height, and it didn't' seem to help.

Does any one have the original wiring schematics for the Reverend? Or have any suggestions on what to check to get that chunky, punchy, thick goodness back?

I’m just learning about these guitars and I found one I like but it’s advertised as a crosscut… which i don’t see on their website, but in their website I see the same looking guitar but it’s called a cleancut.

What is the primary differences in these models besides paint job?

And should I go for one or the other?

Thanks.
