Wanting to move to Aguadilla

Single mom, 2 kids, we probably know a total of 100 words in Spanish. I really want them to go to Froebel Bilingual School in Aguadilla and we're done with the mainland hustle. We are willing to give our all to learning Spanish, want to go somewhere where we'll feel welcome that's community oriented. Because the kids are still young (5 and 2) I thought the younger I could get them over there the better. I'm Black, my children are half white, half Black. We don't really have any ties out here, we live close to Washington DC and everything is so competitive. I don't know why I'm drawn to Aguadilla but it's at the top of my list right now. Any advice, tips, comments, concerns, things I should consider? We love beaches, warm weather, libraries, museums and just being outside in general.

Am I crazy? I feel like I have nothing to lose and a lot to gain. I've tried Arkansas, Washington DC, Texas, Colorado and Virginia and just don't feel a fit.

Car rental in Aguadilla

Any recommendations for an honest, non-scamming/no hidden fees, car rental business that offers good rates. Visiting in May. Just backed out of one I booked through Expedia which felt too good to be true. My cousin told me he booked one through Expedia one time and when he showed up to the counter, they told him he had to pay all these extra fees and obtain extra insurance coverages or else he wasn’t able to get the car, although he already paid through Expedia. He ended up leaving but lost some money due to “late” cancelation.

Feedback/suggestions on San Juan restaurant/bar choices for bachelor party

Hey guys, so planning a bachelor party for my buddy. Its going to be a group of 13 guys. Planning on hitting these spots over a day and a half (friday and saturday evening mainly)

  1. Steakhouse for the big dinner - Should we do Fogo De Chao, Rare 125, Mortons, or STK? We want this to be a fancy place but not necessarily fine dining type. Open to other suggestions too.

  2. Old San Juan dinner - Right now I have Cayo Caribe as the choice, but is there anything else in Old SJ that is more of a must visit restaurant?

  3. Bars - La Placita area and La Factoria

  4. Cigar Lounge - I hear Don Collins and Casa de Montecristo are both good. Any suggestion on which is better?

Appreciate any feedback!

Single female traveler

Hi all,

I am thinking of coming to Puerto Rico for a short trip of 5-7 days…. I am mainly looking to relax on the beach, eat yummy food and have some adult beverages…. I wouldn’t mind an adventurous day trip here or there but kinda looking to just warm up after a long wisco winter. I have o my been to Vieques before but it is so spread out… are the beaches in the San Juan area decent? Don’t plan to rent a car so would like things walk- or Lyft/Uber-able.

Would love info/recs from anyone that has been✨🙏✨ I do also speak Spanish, if that matters….

Need help with Puerto Rico itinerary, please!

I was supposed to go to Thailand for my 30th bday in May, but that got canceled due to the Middle East escalations. I’ve now decided to go to Puerto Rico, but I have to start planning asap!

My family is Puerto Rican and I’d go there every 2-3 years growing up, but we mainly would stay with family and would hit the local spots. I’ve never gone without family and haven’t been back since before covid. It’ll be me and my bf. I’m excited to show him around but stressed about where to stay and where to go. I would love to stay in a nicer hotel, but nothing too expensive (less than $250/night). I want to have walkability, beaches and/or a good pool, delicious restaurants around. I really want to do a day trip to el yunque/luquillo beach.

This is what I’m thinking so far: Day 1: Arrive by 12pm. Stay somewhere near old San Juan / Condado area etc

Days 1-5: -Be in San Juan areas. El Morro, old San Juan, beaches, restaurants. Take 1 day to do the tour to el yunque/luquillo beach

Day 6-7: -Travel to Vieques OR Culebra and stay 1 night

Day 7-8: -head back to San Juan for 1 night and fly home 8AM

Is this doable? If you have any recommendations on where to stay, that would be super helpful. Or, if I should skip Culebra/Vieques and go elsewhere for a night or two, I’m open to suggestions!!

Handicap Accessible Snorkeling, BioBay and Sight Seeing in Puerto Rico for my 78 year old Mom

Hi All! I'm taking my mom and her friend on a trip to Puerto Rico. My mom is a great swimmer, but has never snorkeled. She'll do great with the snorkeling and that's what she wants to do the most. The challenge is she has a neuromuscular disease that has impacted her feet badly, she has horrible balance and muscle atrophy (arms and legs). She can walk, but uses a walker and walking is very hard or nearly impossible for her on uneven ground, rocks, etc. I'm going to rent one of those beach wheel chairs... my questions are:

  1. where can I take her snorkeling accessible by the beach wheel chair?

  2. I want to take her to La Parguera for the Biobay tour, but which tour operator will help her the most with getting in and out of the boat?

  3. Any other wheel chair accessible locations you recommend for high impact sight seeing?

Small boutique hotels in San Juan?

My family is going to Puerto Rico in June for my wife’s 40th birthday. We are taking our 5 year old son. We are thinking about staying in the Isla Verde area mostly because we don’t get into town until 1030pm and prefer to not rent a car.

Does anyone know of a nice, small boutique hotel in Isla Verde or the general area that is on the beach?

Would prefer a hotel to VRBO apartment to have a restaurant inside.

Thanks!

Simple Living and Housing Opportunity in Puerto Rico

I’ve spent over 20 years in tech and I’m ready for a simple reset. I’m from Rhode Island and have been to all four sides of Puerto Rico including Vieques.

I’m a photographer and would like to build that into my primary source of income. I’ll also be seeking local work while I get established, open to all possibilities.

I’m looking for very basic low cost housing anywhere in Puerto Rico a private room or small studio with shared space is fine. Nothing fancy at all. I live simply and need very little.

Access to nature is the priority beach or mountains is enough. I’m also willing to help take care of a property if that’s useful.

If you have a place available or know of one I would appreciate hearing from you.

Affordable Housing and Local Work

Looking to start fresh in Puerto Rico and live a simple life close to nature. The goal is to step away from the material and vanity world and focus on living simply. I am also a photographer and hope to pursue it if opportunities arise.

Looking for information on small, basic rentals or even a private room, anywhere affordable, and communities where this kind of life is realistic. Also interested in any local work opportunities that cover basic needs, willing to start at the bottom if necessary.

Seeking real, practical advice from people who know the island. Where is it actually possible to live humbly, simply, affordably, near nature and beaches, and have access to local work? Any guidance on towns, neighborhoods, rentals, or jobs would be appreciated.
