I found aphids on a drosera about 2 weeks ago, but didn't notice that they got into my pingrock until yesterday when I cleaned the container. No noticable damage on my pings yet, except for the slightly odd new growth on the P. cyclosecta. I'm giving the rock a bath, hopefully this will be enough to eliminate them.
Should I divide the ones that are multiplying and growing in a clump?
I’ve had this thing for awhile now, but I’ve noticed the pings drying out more and more, as well as them going back into succulent mode instead of flowering, should I go with an alternative route? I also don’t keep the water fountain constantly on, I turn it off every other day or so, and I realize the water needs to be changed, but I don’t want them all dieing on me…..
A couple of weeks ago I got these P. rectifolia, many dying leaves in the first few days. Now, one of them looks like that, what should I expect?
Sorry if this is common sense but Is there a reason why I see zero mexican tropical butterworts outside in bowls or terrariums. I only see temperate bogs but why not these guys? I want to make bowl to leave on my balcony since I have no space for grow lights and location for them. Is there a way I can have them outside so they can get the colors? Without sun they stay green and I want to put it onto my balcony where they would get morning sun otherwise I’d have to get a temperate one
I'm ready right now, and I am about to build my ping rock first to make it ready before I purchase and thrift a nice bowl for it. Perfect size, it looks good and is heavy duty, so the rock will not break it under as easily, just to get home and fill it up barely with water for the bottom to fall out in a perfect circle. Literally fell out and it cut my hand. Unrefundable 20 dollars, and the dragon stones I picked up. Do not wick at all. I can only imagine I would have to now drill holes, which seems impossible to do if it won't even wick up 3 inches. Atleast Im going to the airport so I can do more shopping on my way back.
Its supposed to be Pinguicula weser, but honestly it doesn't look to good rn... I'll fix it with time but how do i care for it? Is it like drosera with a need for water 24/7 or more Nepenthesee with a once every week or so typa schedule? I've got the dormancy phase down so no questions there but i did repot it into this fancy little pot (it has drainage holes) but i found out that it doesnt have a lot of roots, just some short white threads at the base ? Is that normal? Like i am genuinely concerned on how little there was, maybe like 5 different ones coming from the base and while i was repoting one if the leaves literally just fell off?? I got the light thing down too so no questions there.... Last thing, isnt it supposed to be pink?is it a sun thing? Any help is appreciated
Got some pinguiculas over the weekend. First time getting these types of carnivorous plants and would love any tips you might have on helping them thrive.
I’m based in Melbourne Australia so it’s a pretty cold autumn at the moment.
Simply walking on the rocks of Lake Superior's north shore with my family when I spotted these pinguicula in a very difficult environment some years ago.
Sorry, I'll guess you get this question a lot, but is it a Mexican species, do I have to let the dish dry out in between watering?
Soil looks a bit thick, should I repot and go far a Sphagnum/ perlite mix?
Thanks in advance
It appears that my little bitty Lilac Lollipop is beginning to flower. It’s adorable. Had to share 💜
Hi everyone !
I ordered form giardino carnivoro and my package has been in the mail for 17 days as of today. I have no news from my mail delivery service it was supposed to be delivered on the 24th of april but it was not. Do you think mh plants are still alive ? Should i keep my hopes up or just accept that they are dead ? I already contacted the seller on thursday the 30th but they haven't responded yet. Here's what i ordered :
nepenthes ampullaria lime twist, Dionaea muscipula Bohemian garnet, Pinguicula gracilis x emarginata, Pinguicula moranensis var. alba, Pinguicula CV 'BCP Crystal', Pinguicula esseriana "Black leaf" x potosiensis "Red leaves" and a Drosera collinsiae
English isn't my first language so let me know if i need to clarify anything
pardon my succulents. i got some new pings from rainbow carnivorous plants :) everyone is doing well after shipping and i fed them yesterday. my p. agnata ‘red leaf’ is putting out his fifth flower!
first picture, LTR: p. agnata ‘red leaf’; p. martinezii; p. cyclosecta (all from curiousplant + potted in their mix)
second picture, LTR: p. ‘ysi’; p. ‘razzberry blonde’; p. ‘weser’ x agnata ‘el lobo’ (all from rainbow carnivorous plants + potted in their mix)
New to the group and to Pinguicula (butterwort) ownership! Original name, I know 😅😅
Have had this little one for about 2 months now and it's one of my favorite plants (next to the Maranta leuconeura (Prayer plant)). I've found myself catching fruit flys and gnats for it and placing them on the leaves. Audrey III has started flowering recently and she looks great! Love the bright purple bloom.
Just wanted to share with like minded folks... Thanks for looking!
I’m pretty new to carnivorous plants. I got my first one back in October, and I’ve been having good luck with pings so far.
This one was sold to me as Pinguicula ‘Johanna’. It seems healthy and I’m excited because it looks like it’s about to flower, but I’m mostly curious about the leaf color.
When I look up other photos of ‘Johanna’, a lot of them are extremely bright candy-pink across the whole rosette. Mine has some pink, but it’s more salmon/peach/bronze and not nearly as saturated-looking.
My lights are not running at 100% because I’m trying not to cook/melt the plants, so I’m wondering: is this just normal variation / camera saturation / ideal seller photo conditions, or does my plant actually look like it wants more light?
I’m not trying to force it to match edited photos, but I also don’t want to under-light it if ‘Johanna’ should be coloring up more than this. Appreciate any advice from people who grow this one.
