The Snakes Are Out Already, Be Mindful

Saw this beauty of a specimen this morning at the site. Crawled out of a piece of heavy equipment that he must’ve taken shelter in overnight to keep warm. I’ve been living in N.C., off and on, since 1985-86ish. This is my first time seeing a snake in early April. Is this normal or have I just been living under a rock?

Noticed flags will be at half-staff in NC tomorrow

Noticed flags will be at half-staff in NC tomorrow

I noticed the flags in North Carolina are going to half-staff tomorrow and figured I’d share why, because I always end up Googling it myself.

It’s in honor of Mike Clampitt, who died on Wednesday, March 18, after a long battle with cancer.

Honestly, I never really know the reason when I see the flag lowered, you usually have to dig around to find out. So I ended up making a simple app that sends you a quick notification and explains what’s going on (both national and state level).

Not trying to push anything on anyone, just thought some of you might find it useful if you’ve wondered the same thing.

tim moore's latest legislative nightmare

just looked into hr 7114 that moore from district 14 pushed through and wow, this thing is genuinely disturbing. for those who dont know, thats the area that used to be represented by someone way more reasonable before redistricting happened

this bill basically creates a framework for people to report on each other like were living in some authoritarian state. the parallels to historical surveillance regimes are pretty clear and terrifying

really hoping folks will reach out to their reps and tell them this kind of neighbor-snitching legislation has no place here. we shouldnt be encouraging people to spy on each other through official government channels

The I77 Toll Project will probably lock in before NCDOT releases data backing up the justification and impacts. Communities won't have time to respond or stop the project no matter what the data says. Contact NCDOT and tell them to release the numbers!

From communications with a top project planner. The project vests before summer.

Thinking about ditching my NC place for a complete change of scenery

So I own this little house here and lately I've been getting restless thinking about what it would be like to just pack up and try somewhere totally different. Maybe somewhere with actual seasons up north or out west with those crazy mountain views or even just a completely different energy altogether

Don't get me wrong NC has its perks and I'd definitely miss some stuff but I can't shake this feeling that maybe I should cash out while the market is decent and do a full life restart somewhere else instead of staying put forever

Anyone else ever get that itch to just go somewhere completely new? Where did you end up or where are you dreaming about going

Swain County?

What's going on in Swain County? My friend is a data scientist and is tracking life expectancy and mental health in North Carolina. Swain County has the highest mentally unhealthy days and the lowest life expectancy compared to the rest of the state (average in physical activity). A quick Google also showed they have one of the highest crime rates compared to the rest of the state and high suicide rate(despite their low population????). So, what's going on? Why is Swain County sad? What's going on in Swain County?

For those interested: Raleigh, Durham, Orange, and Mecklenburg counties all have some of the highest or are on the higher end of life expectancy and mental health.

NC Governor's School Questions

Hey everyone, I got accepted into NC Governor's School for natural sciences, and I was wondering if the program is really prestigious or not. Like, I know that it's really good, but I don't know just how good. I was kind of excited about it, but my friends have made it sound subpar, so I don't know. My top colleges that I really want to go to are Duke and Cornell, and since Duke is in-state, does Gov School help a lot in that case? If so, how much? Top schools are just getting super competitive these days so I don't know... I just want this summer to be useful and beneficial. Thanks in advance!

EVP Commercial Sales & Strategy of Group has destroyed livelihoods and careers. BE AWARE!

To start off I am writing this to warn people about applying to this company especially in today’s job market. This woman, EVP Commercial Sales & Strategy has destroyed the reputation and profit of Group. She came in and within 3 months fired hundreds of people in corporate without any warning while promising that no one was going to get fired. I know this because I was in those multiple meetings with our teams, she ALWAYS reassured our jobs will be secure. She’s a horrible person and a liar , sadly she advocates on “standing out” an “paving a way for yourself” while she is the complete opposite and builds her career off of cutting corners. Her ultimate goal is to get on multiple boards of different organizations, which she told me personally. I think people should know about her in Charlotte and conduct should conduct investigations on her because of the way she runs this company. There are multiple articles about her success and even a Ted Talk; but she is the most ingenuous person I have worked with. She is a snake and will lie and say she’ll promote u then ghost u about the topic, then fire you without warning. It’s sad bc I know a lot of current employees hate working there now when tbh the previous years employees were happy and satisfied. I want to uncover her true colors and need the public to know she’s built on lies and ruining reputations of that company. Idk what EVP comes in and within 3 months she had more say then the CGO. Also I was told privately she got this job through a simple “dm” on LinkedIn, and started a week after. I think she blackmails people on executive teams, the only reason I’m saying this now is to warn people and let u know that corporate is a scam and you should NOT work for someone who’s a pathetic, greedy, lowlife, and sad excuse of a woman who supposedly “encourages” other women.
