Asheville as the downhill skateboarding Mecca
There’s many reasons that led to North Carolina being established as a downhill hotspot. We can look back to the 1989 North Carolina Highway Trust Fund paving program that was a massive push to pave remaining dirt and gravel secondary roads. The 2008 housing market crash gave way to a swath of undeveloped and abandoned neighborhoods.
For us, a simple but clear example is how you can leave your front door and be at the top of a world class downhill descent in a matter of fifteen to twenty minutes.
If you look back through the North Carolina Downhill Skateboarding (NCDH) archive, you will find that one of our favorite things to capture is our local crew ripping through beautiful Appalachia.

*We had spotters and walkie talkie systems for these descents. Eyes and ears all over the road with communication and safety protocols.
