Thanks to the helpful people of this sub, I landed my first Marshall😁
An old studio I used to reherse at was closing down, so I went to go grab the old amp I use to use. Someone had already nabbed it the day before :(
However, they had a few other options to let go, and I had a play of this and a JCM900. I will admit the 900 was a little easier to tame but something drew me to the beast of the 800 instead.
Only paid a deposit today, so still need to wait a few days before its home, but the hour test run before was glorious!
After some research/thought, I’m looking to pick up the origin 20h and more than likely the 2x12 slant cabinet.
Doesn’t matter if it is a combo or a head, lmk your thoughts on the line (short and sweet, pro/con, whatever works)

Hey everyone. I twas once a wrestler in my high school days, wasn’t anything crazy but thoroughly enjoyed it. Then joined the marines and did MCMAP when I could, did enjoy that a little more as it I had realized I could be a little more “brute force” and it helped more often than not. I have done some Jiu Jitsu (like 2-3 months) no gi, I do enjoy no gi because it reminds me of wrestling which is cool. I guess my question here really is what should I learn as a beginner, in wrestling I was told to pick 2-3 moves in each position and really master them which was great and I think helped me in the sport. For Jiu jitsu there is so many moves I don’t think that will necessarily help me. I do think the same mindset on moves can help but I’m wondering as a beginner which moves would be classified as the first ones to really learn? At the moment I’d say I understand how to do an arm bar and rear naked choke but I feel as though it is insanely hard to hit this on people. I have been focusing on a lot of guard passing as I am very weak there. Any insight is appreciated and even just some sage wisdom on how you would re learn if you could I guess. Thanks everyone :)
I’m so excited! Lots of firsts - first tube amp, first Marshall. This feels like my first true amp! I’m 30 and have been playing guitar since I was 15. I’ve been using my line 6 120w amp all this time lol. Say what you want but it’s done the job! lol. Over the years I’ve invested my money into guitars and pedals over the amps. So this year I decided I really want to play guitar more and I wanted a solid amp.
I’ve had my eyes on a the DSL40CR for I couple years now and never pulled the trigger. At the end of last year I noticed they had a guitar center exclusive color, the stealth black and I instantly fell in love. I needed it. I know it’s not for everyone. I see comments like “I like the look but it would be hard to see the controls” or “I like the classic marshall look better” but man I love this blacked out look. And I don’t gig so I wouldn’t be playing in low light areas.
It was actually a journey to get this thing. I had one on back order but Guitar Center let me know they would be cancelling my order because they thought they were getting more in but turns out they wouldn’t be and the amp would be discontinued. So I was bummed. I searched and searched for one new (I’m OCD about my gear.) I wanted a new or mint one. Finally come across this one at a guitar center in Kansas. I called them up and they were FANTASTIC! They looked it over and said it was in mint condition. I said I’ll take it! They asked what guitar cables I used and I said mogami and they said “we’re gonna give you one for free” I was shocked! that’s a $70 guitar cable lol. They packed it up insanely good and it came in a Marshall DSL40 box! All tags, paperwork, and footswitch included! I paid $650!
So I had an excellent experience with the guitar center store I got this from and so glad I finally got one in mint condition!
Excited to see what this thing can do! I hear so many great things about these amps!
Any tips or tricks with these amps or tube amps in general since I’m new to this?
I want to record floods solo.I've tried multiple community presets on my.marshall.com but they doesn't sound accurate enough.
Throughout the last few days my Marshall dsl40cr that I’ve owned since Christmas of last year has been sounding super fizzy with the habit of having inconsistant volume and making loud popping & crackling as well as almost “gunshot-y” sounds that’ve literally made me jump multiple times. Does it just need new tubes or do I need to somehow find a tech and drop it off? I feel like I’ve treated the amp well and kept it clean though I have made multiple speaker swaps in an attempt to cut out its natural fizz and excessive high end (the current speaker it has is an eminence swamp thang) . I just don’t really know what to do and ive been stuck using my orange crush 35rt while I try to figure out a solution
Bought a used Marshall DSL40CR it came with this power cable, this is the correct cable correct? It’s a IEC C13 10A / 125V?
But my main question is, is this the brand that actually comes from the factory from marshall? Volex?
Hello everyone. So i had this marshall dsl 40 (i believe cr) for a couple months now. And about a month or 2 ago sometimes the 20 watt mode would just act up but the next day start working completely normal. It would do this pretty rarely (maybe one evrey 2 werks) but it still happened. Today it started not working and even the 40 watt one was glitching out too. Its pretty clear to me that there's something wierd going on but I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this. It just stops working but then comes completely back to life the next day? I just really have no money to fix it if the repair costs more than like 100 dollars😭😭
So I noticed that recently there have been some issues with my 2525H:
Can this be caused by the power tubes being tired?
The amp has 3/4 years and it has always been used at Master 6 with an attenuator (before was the HB PA 100, recently the Torpedo Captor X)
