Where do people who season their food go out?

My husband(Puerto Rican Man) and I (African-American Man) are visiting this summer. We looked at all the tourism advertisements and thought something missing…people who look like us. Historically, Black and Brown people have to exist in Manchester. So where are they? Where do they have events? Where do folks get their hair cut? Are there any events celebrating Black community and culture this summer? We would love to be in these spaces but also feel safe as we are a queer couple.

Afternoon tea in Richmond?

Hi, I'm going to London for four days in mid May. It isn't my first time but I'm going with a friend that hasn't visited before and she'd like to have an afternoon tea. We're looking for places in Richmond that are around £30 per person and are open on Mondays, since we planned to visit Kew Gardens and it's the only time we can squeeze it in. I know it's difficult with such short notice but I want to at least try for her. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Best vegetarian indian restaurant in Southall?

Anyone got any good recommendations for indian vegetarian sit down restaurants in Southall? I keep defaulting to Saravanan Bhavan and want to try something new that isn't at Indian level spicy, clean and has a good ambience.

First time travel as a young adult

Hello, I'll be travelling to London for the first time with a friend in August for 4 days. The itinerary isn't fully completed, but I'm a museum freak so the National History Museum and British Museum are a must visit.

I'm looking for relatively cheap and unique things to visit/eat since we're both students. I'd like some recommendations for a nice pub where you can chat with young peope and have a nice time. (+restaurants/cafes)

Also we're both women so I'd appreciate some safety tips or areas to avoid. +Any idea of what budget should one have? like for transport and food and a little souvenir here and there. I know London is expensive but it would be useful to have an idea of how much a minimum budget should be at least.

Is the ballet schedule set for the year?

My dream is to watch a ballet at the Royal Ballet. I booked my first time to London for sep 23 to sep 30 and there is not one ballet going on when I’m there. I’m devastated. I will 100% go back to London in the future but it was something I was looking forward to.

Family-friendly hotel recommendations in London for 5-day trip with toddler (mid-July)

Hi everyone,

We’re planning a five-day family trip to London in mid-July with our 2-year-old and are currently looking for hotel recommendations.

We already have a few things planned, including the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and some time exploring around Soho, so ideally we’re after somewhere well located and easy to get around from with a little one in tow.

Our main priorities are a hotel that’s clean, comfortable and genuinely family-friendly.

We’re hoping to hear from people who’ve stayed somewhere in London with young children and had a genuinely positive experience. We’re fairly flexible on budget if it’s somewhere that’s truly worth it.

Thanks so much for any recommendations.

Best Place to Run in London

I'm staying at Wombat City and the Hilton on Bankside. I typically do an early morning run and sometimes at night. Is there a place near me I can run? I presume through city isn't a good idea?

my long awaited visit to london

my dear london redditors

my old me (m/50) just booked a 6 day visit in your beautiful city (arrival 12th of may late morning, departure 18th of may late afternoon)

because my long time favourite musician paul simon plays a concert at the royal albert hall at 14th of may i decided to plunder my bank account and take the oppurtinity

as a nerd, I also booked a tour of the harry potter exhibition at the Warner Bros. Studios on 15th of may

my hotel is near notting hill (yes, i love this movie)

away from all the tourist attractions: what can you recommend?

my interests are primarily medieval to 19th century history (especially how a city is founded and grows), films (filming locations), british comedy (monty python, benny hill, blackadder, little britain,...) and above all: music

i'm also interested in jack the ripper / whitechapel, there are some tours, any worth it?

and I would be very happy to invite someone for a beer in a pub for a conversation with a local

and if someone could tell me where to get some sixpence coins, I would appreciate that (yes, I'm an huge brian may fan, own a red special and need some plecks in reserve)

english is not my native language, I hope I haven't made too many mistakes

all the best from austria

College student shopping in London

Hello!

My little sister (18 year old) will be studying abroad in London starting in September.

For a high school graduation gift, I’d like to give her some gift cards that she can use to shop for fun things over there - clothes, knickknacks for her dorm, novelty groceries - things that are useful for a student on a budget but still more fun than only giving cash.

What are some stores relevant to a young student, who have e-gift cards available that I could purchase online from the USA using dollars?

TIA!

Best UK exclusive brands for shoes or UK exclusive styles?

My family and I are traveling to London and Bath for two weeks from the States and my teenage boys are kind of sneakerheads and have a mild interest in fashion as well. I've tried to research unique UK brands as well as UK exclusive colorways for shoes but I'm pretty lost.

Maybe in the age of the internet there's no point of regional brands but I'd love to take them to a store that sells shoes not typically available in the United States. While I will entertain luxury brands there's still a budget so I'd like to stay in 200-300 dollar range for items. We will all over London throughout the week so many places may work (Soho,Westminster,Kensington, Mayfair, Marlylebone, with a bit of time over in Spitalfield and Bricklane. Not making it over to Chelsea, Notting Hill, or Shoreditch if that helps.

Thanks in advance to any education someone can provide on cool shops that may need to go on the itinerary.

Best museums or places in London to learn about British history and culture?

Hi! I’m visiting the UK from Japan for about 10 days, and I’ll be staying in London for around 2 of those days.

I’d love to know your recommendations for museums or places in London where I can really learn about British history and culture.

I’m aware of major places like the British Museum, but since I’m actually going to the UK, I’m especially interested in places that focus more specifically on Britain itself (London is totally fine too) rather than global collections.

I’m also curious — where do people in the UK usually go (or learn from) to understand their own history?

Any scale, theme, or format is fine

Any historical period is fine, as long as it involves human history

Some specific things I’m already interested in:

Henry VIII / Tudor period

The London Blitz (WWII)

Canals and their role in British life

But I’d also love to discover things I don’t know at all.

What would you recommend, and why?

20 hour Layover at LHR

Hi! Family of 4 (mom, dad, and girls ages 7 and 11) will be landing at LHR for a 20 hour layover. We land at 6:00 PM on a Thursday and fly out of LHR at 2:00 PM on Friday. Do we have time for a quick tour of the city? If so how would you suggest going about doing it? I wanted to book an easy hotel as well, close to the airport. I plan to check our bags all the way through to the US, so we would only have our carry on bags to make things simpler.

Which hotel for a flight out of Heathrow?

I am coming to London in September & my flight leaves at 8:30AM on a Tuesday. I am staying in central London for my trip, but figured I’d save some time & money by staying at an airport hotel on my last night, since I’ll have to head straight to the airport anyway.

Which of these hotels would be most convenient for getting to T2 for a united flight? I’d prefer to take only 1 train if possible, rather than transferring trains/busses etc.

- premier inn Heathrow airport T4
- ibis budget London Heathrow central
- holiday inn express t4

Booking Westminster Abbey tickets

Is anyone else having trouble booking tickets for Westminster Abbey? I’ve been getting this error message for last couple of hours.

u/miss_cee_gee — 22 hours ago

Going to be at Heathrow early, and need suggestions to pass the time.

I've had a lovely time in London with my wife and our 4 year-old, and am sad to be leaving tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I've kinda messed up and now have a LOT of extra time at Heathrow tomorrow. My flight is at 5:30pm and the checkout time from my AirBnb is 11am. I can't checkout late as they have someone else coming and need to clean the property.

So I will likely be at Heathrow around 12-12:30pm (Terminal 2). My thought was to have lunch before check-in, then check-in around 1:30-2pm and just hope my flight is on time. After security, are there any play areas or similar for children? Any lounges I can pay to access? Just trying to make this easier for my family.

Thank you!
