First time travel as a young adult

Hello, I'll be travelling to London for the first time with a friend in August for 4 days. The itinerary isn't fully completed, but I'm a museum freak so the National History Museum and British Museum are a must visit.

I'm looking for relatively cheap and unique things to visit/eat since we're both students. I'd like some recommendations for a nice pub where you can chat with young peope and have a nice time. (+restaurants/cafes)

Also we're both women so I'd appreciate some safety tips or areas to avoid. +Any idea of what budget should one have? like for transport and food and a little souvenir here and there. I know London is expensive but it would be useful to have an idea of how much a minimum budget should be at least.
