I PASSED!!!

Second try in Buxton with only 3 minors.

I felt really confident throughout and I am so pleased with the result.

I am 4 months off turning 18, and have been learning since August.

In total I spent around £1,300 to get to this point, including £150 for this test as I failed first time round and wanted to get back in quickly. Happy to give any advice if anyone wants!

I was so close to :(

What’s worse then being a point of, is that a know I had 43

There was this question where I had the correct answer but when going through my own answers a second time I changed it doubting myself,

When is it unsafe to overtake

After a bend

30 mph road

One direction road

Dip in road

I originally put dip in road then changed it to the one direction one, not sure why tbh, pain

This is my second test my original one I got like 36 so I should hopefully get it next time

I finally passed omg

For context I had a car before in last year October but was hit from behind at a high speed while stationary behind a bus due to the third party being distracted by taking a drink so it kind of gave me a little PTSD with cars stopping super close behind me. Fast forward my test last year in December and it was terminated just 2 minutes away from the test centre due to the car literally dying after a turn. Had to have the instructor and my partner push the car to the side. After that point I felt I should just give up as the examiner said I was on route to passing with no minors. After going on holiday and finishing my exams, I decided why not book my test again as everyone (family and close friends) questioned why I haven’t passed as I’m a great driver. Forgot my L plates in london, inside mirror, no banana just vibes lmao super happy but now it’s time to buy a new car and deal with the prices of insurance smh.

P.S I am from london but booked a test Nuneaton as it was a nice area to drive in and easier to get cancellations dates.

I passed 😭

First time pass only three minors!

Move off faults were due to stalling and progress was right at the start as the exit from the test centre is on a hill and I was nervous about stalling so ended up missing a load of gaps 😂😂

Genuinely in shock. I’m 28 and put this off for so long I can’t believe it!

I can't believe I actually passed!

I was so nervous this morning, but I ate a banana and managed to pass on my second time. I feel, personally, that I drove a lot worse on this test than I did on my first one. As I failed my first test with only one major and 0 driving faults, and that was because I parked too far from the curb on a parallel park. On this test I had lots of driving faults and felt a lot worse about it. In fact, I thought I had failed in the first 5 minutes and that might be what ultimately calmed me down in the end.

However, I really must say that the worst part is the anxiety going into it. I know that I can drive, but proving it is very stressful. Also, the wait for test times can prolong that anxiety a lot.

When my examiner told me that I had passed, I was shaking and crying and I honestly could have hugged her!!

Please everybody, keep it up! We are all in the same place until our test day, and 40 minutes is definitely doable. I wish everyone else the best! 🩷

Where do I stop when turning left?

Hi all, If I want to turn left and the traffic light is red before I reach the left turn, where should I stop? The left turn lane’s giveaway line is after the traffic light. There’s no solid line before i approach on the left. Many thanks

I made it Finally!!!

Passed manual on my 4th attempt. First 2 was disaster. Failed again on 3rd attempt last minute. I was thinking about switch to automatic. But my instructer said I will do fine on manual. Learned a lot from here. Thanks to everyone.

Gifts for a driving instructor

Hi all!

I passed nearly two weeks ago and I’d really like to get something for my driving instructor. He also teaches my brother so I see him every now and then anyway. He’s had two lesson with my brother since my pass and I still haven’t gotten anything so i’m really slacking 😹

I know it’s not the norm to get gifts for your instructor but this guy is a godsend. I had a really crappy one before him who was basically just taking my money but this guy helped me go from being the crappest driver ever to passing in less than three months. I also had severe driving anxiety and he worked really hard to help me get over that too.

I was gonna just go for a box of chocolates but hes a diabetic lmfao. Any suggestions? thanks

3rd times the charm!

i genuinely thought id failed because i almost went into a bus lane and then immediately corrected it, but it was only a minor! the slight speeding happened at the same time as the bus lane (35 in a 30 for a few seconds) because i was focused on getting away from the bus lane lol. SO HAPPY!!!!

After 3 (badly) failed mock tests, passed first time

https://preview.redd.it/7czkrcx4cqtg1.png?width=588&format=png&auto=webp&s=ff8c049410c44ea810170e6cb6456194a4afb6fd

1st mock test 27/03- 5 majors and 13 minors. Instructor had to intervene multiple times.
2nd mock test 03/04- 2 majors, 15 minors.
3rd mock test 05/04 -2 majors, 13 minors.

I had no idea I passed, I really didn't expect it. I certainly didn't expect so few minors. There was an element of luck, since there was no school run in the morning the roads were quieter, and the weather was nice.

If you're in a position like me, where mock tests seemed like you're nowhere close, just know it's not hopeless!

I feel so hopeless

My test is on Thursday and I was feeling quite hopeful but I had a lesson today and my instructor was nit picking over a lot of things and at one point I stopped to let a car past and was watching what a van was doing and was feeling quite overwhelmed due to the nit picking and she said to me how close were you to that car? I didn't respond as I was trying to keep a calm mind and focus on the road infront, she said it again and I again didn't respond then she went 'I'll ask you again, how close were you to that car?' we then went it the test center and she said I was too close to the barrier and I just burst into tears as she was just overwhelming me so much with all the nitpicking. It's been hours since I've done my lesson and I still feel awful and want to cry. it will be my forth test but my first automatic and nit picking 2 days before my test just panicks me and makes me nervous. I don't know what to do. She told me that she's confident I will pass during this lesson but I feel so hopeless now. I felt so confident that I'd pass my second test and didn't which then resulted in me feeling really hopeless about my third and it went terrible and I cried for a while after.

I just don't know how to feel confident again.

Parent of a learner

So title says it all really my son is 17 His driving test is in may. Luckily for us my sister is a driving instructor so lesson prices are literally non existent and we only pay for fuel. My son is ADHD combined type and on the whole is a brilliant little driver. But he can not take any sort of criticism from his dad when he's driving with him.

My nephew and niece my sisters kids both passed first time with 0/1 fault. And I'm certain he thinks he is going the same way. Which is great he's so confident but I know if it doesn't happen he will be crushed.

Now I know my sister wouldn't tell him to get a test if she thought he wasn't ready but me as his mum well I'm pooping my pants and I've got all the anxiety for him 🤣 I've had to take a step back and let his dad deal with it all because the anxiety takes over my life.

I just so desperately want this for him because I myself can't pass my test because of my anxiety around the test. And I don't want him to follow in my footsteps.

I'd like to know from a driving instructors pov how you deal with kids that don't do well with criticism so we can have some tips.

My reaction speed is too good for the hazard perception test

Ok I really don’t get how this works, every time I make mock hazard perception test there is always a few scenario where I press the screen “too early” of a few milliseconds and get scored 0.

In this scenario, you can see the white car approaching in between the parked car one second before you could score 5 points, and on the motorcycle approaching you can see them way earlier as well.

And I can’t keep pressing because then I get marked 0 as I am cheating.

Any help? I really don’t get how I’m supposed to “time” when it’s a good reaction or not…

Driving exam cancellation 11/04 Barnet test centre

Due to several last minute issues I can no longer take my driving exam on Sat 11th April 2026 in Barnet test centre. I missed the 10 day rescheduling period by 1 day so it will now be wasted. I’m not sure if it’s too late now, but I’d be grateful if I could swap with someone with a later test date in Barnet if it’s possible!

I am losing confidence because I keep repeating left turns every lesson.

I am very disheartened. I have done 6 lessons. 1 hour 30 minute lesson once a week. During the lesson I feel I did well but when next week rolls around, my skill level drops so much. It took an hour and ten minutes doing it today to get back to scratch. I predict this is going to happen next week too.

I know everyone goes at their own pace but the lessons are expensive as it is, and I feel pressured to do well. I feel like personally 1 hour per week is so low for practice. At this point I might as well get a steering wheel and do hours of a driving simulator on my computer. I am also aware doing 1-2 hours per week applies to everyone and that it is normal.

In my opinion, the instructor is ok. My nitpick is that he forgets what we did last week a lot. Today he went "your left turns were better last week" but in my mind, I couldn't even keep the car straight last week as I'm turning. I don't know, I feel like he misremebers. He acts like I'm supposed to do it fine. I did 10 minutes of right turns and he got lowkey upset I didn't do it right.... Like I'm supposed to do it perfectly with 10 minutes of practice?

Random question

Apologies if this type of post isn’t allowed, it’s just something that’s been nagging me for a while now!

I had this boyfriend years ago who owned a car and claimed he’d passed his driving test - but he only had a green provisional license in his wallet. I can’t remember exactly what excuse he gave, something like he never sent it off after passing.

Anyway, a couple of years into us dating, he got pulled over one night and the police took his car because he was driving on a provisional. He told me it was a total screw-up on their part and that he’d passed his test ages ago. He was told he would need to take a driving test to get his pink license, which he did a few months later and passed.

I was admittedly a naive 19 year old at this point and never questioned what he was telling me. I just assumed it was some admin cock up from him never sending off for his pink license. But in recent years I’ve started to wonder if he was chatting absolute shit and had never actually passed in the first place.

This was about 15 years ago now… does his story sound even remotely plausible?

Planning ahead

Im doing my test in tottenham and just can’t get over planning ahead. I don’t understand how even in regular driving how your meant to know that for example a lane turns into a bus lane and so you have to move over. Or who a pair of traffic lights are for. Or which lanes merge , which lanes are for turing said left or right or straight. Tottenham is very difficult and it often feels like the roads are incomplete, Some roads are 30 but most are 20 when it should be other way round. If I didn’t do the routes how could I possibly know what to do in certain areas. It’s so annoying. pls help
