August Jakarta Travel Plan Help

Hello fellow SEA. I'm a Vietnamese and will travel to Jakarta for 3 days for the Chelsea-AC Milan match in August. And i need some of your help to plan the trip.

Could u guys recommend me places to visit? And food to try?

It would be amazing if u guys can also give me the name and the price. Preferrably no restaurant and more of local places for authentic experience.

For the attraction, is there any place to visit apart from the Old town, Merdeka square, Istiqlal and Jakarta cathedral? Sightseeing places maybe

As a Vietnamese, my driving permit is also valid in Indonesia so i will rent a motorbike to navigate around the city. Traffic jam is also a common in VN so i think i can get used to JKT traffic quick. Distances is also not a problem for me.

Thank you guys so much for helping me. 🇮🇩❤️🇻🇳

what is going on with the price of burgers in jakarta

i love burgers and yes taste is subjective, but what is going on with cipete burgers' pricing, yikes

i've tried a lot, i always try to give a new establishment a chance, but recent ones really give me the ick

look at mogul burger in scbd, that's some daylight robbery with their extremely mid burger

on another note, byurger is a sad case, owner got too greedy with expansion and ended up being a 'consultant' for burger joints

i also have a theory, bobby's burgers and pattypals are basically patty & son's burger

Kid-friendly attractions

So my friends (a couple) are visiting from abroad and they will be bringing their 7-year old kid with them to visit me here. They will be staying in Jakarta for a solid week and will be spending another week elsewhere. Wondering if any of you have suggestions for family-friendly places in town that would be great to entertain a grade-school kid. So far on my list I have:

  1. TMII - especially the bird park and the Komodo park.
  2. Jakarta Aquarium at Central Park - I thought about going to Sea World instead but the aquarium seems to be better?
  3. Museum Layang-layang in Pondok Labu
  4. Ragunan Zoo maybe? Is it worth it?
  5. Kebun Raya Bogor - for a day trip.

Any other recs would be much appreciated! Thanks!

A genuine question about Indo women

Hello Guys. So I’ve been talking for a while to a Muslim Indonesian woman who lives in Jakarta, and today I found out that she is not a virgin. I’m also Muslim, and this situation surprised me quite a lot. When I asked her how she could both be Muslim and have had premarital sex, she gave me some very strange answers. The message she sent is below:

“Why you call me not Muslim? Why you tell me not Muslim? How you know I'm not Muslim??! I did mistake make sex with that foreigner guy. But after every time, I cry. I also pray everyday. I believe Allah. I pray 5 times a day. You can't decide if me Muslim or not! I'm Muslim!!”

I’m wondering whether this situation is considered normal in Indonesia. As Muslim men, would you marry a girl if you knew she had premarital sex?

In Bangkok where I have been living for the last few years that money gets you a nice condo near downtown. Are there any nice places I could rent in Jakarta for this price for 1 month? Thank you.

Looking to fly into Jakarta as I couldn’t secure tickets for my country. I was wondering what the atmosphere is like in concerts in Jakarta? Is it looked down upon for people to stand (when seated) and yell in concerts, as I’ve read that this is something that happens in neighbouring countries. I would really like to attend a concert with an electrifying energy from the crowd. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Intensive Bahasa Indonesian course.

Hi all,

I have been living in SEA for the last year and spent a few months in Jakarta.

When living in Thailand, I studied very intensely and I not only thoroughly enjoyed it, but made me connect much more to the culture and people.

Most of my friends in Indonesia are either Bule or proficient in English, so my Bahasa Indonesian is not very good - < 100 word vocabulary.

I'm coming back to Indonesia in the next month or so I'm looking for an intensive course / school that I can learn quickly. I'm not so concerned about being fluent, or business formal but more focused on clear pronunciation, casual conversation.

Preference would be in person or due to the traffic difficulties, online. I'm quite ADD, so self learning through apps etc, I'm not consistent / motivated enough.

I've read about Atma Yaya University having an intensive course - is there any other suggestions?

I normally stay in central area.

Terima kasih

Best area for me to stay in jakarta?

Hi, staying for 3 nights in jakarta, arriving and leaving from CGK airport and im not sure where to stay? Friends have recommended Blok M area. I like walking around to explore, decent food (not fine dining, more good food at a good price kinda stuff) and just want to get the vibe, drink some coffee and work a bit on my laptop. Would also like to hit a gym so if there are any with day passes that would be ideal. Would be great to hear some recommendations. Thank you!

Hi, by any chance, would anyone be local that uses the DANA app in Jakarta here? I have $75 of Indian rupees in it and I need to purchase a $75 iTunes gift card, but it won’t let me because I’m no longer in Indonesia.

I've just started re-watching Tokyo Vice (a fave of mine as tv shows go)... It got me thinking about Jakarta where I'm currently based. Not exactly on organised crime (the show focuses on Yakuza) as Jakarta has its own dynamics. But I'm quite curious about how this megacity's underbelly operates.

Does anyone have any insight? Like the nature of illicit/dodgy/grey businesses or trades happening behind the scenes? Or maybe the main players involved over the years to now, and any links to key figures in power or 'formal' big business?

Don't mind if they're geographical or historical accounts that even are a bit gossipy/speculative.

Personally, I've read the book Politik Jatah Preman. Very much an academic take that provided a decent illustration on structures of informal power and how they've changed over time, but the book's over 10 years old now.

Maybe if I was younger I would be more game to try and find out firsthand, but I'm much past it to be say hanging around sketchy night spots.

Budget is not a constraint.

If you are in central Jakarta. Then let's hangout.

I speak English and a bit of Spanish and German as well.

Looking for friends both male wnd female.

I’m planning to skip my Bandung tour and opt for Bogor due to logistics. I learned that Bogor is just 1.5-2 hours from CGK via car. However, I want to try the public transpo. What time does Jakarta Kota station open? (Asking here because answers on google varies)? Does it really open at 4 AM? If my plane lands at 1 AM + another hour or two for immigration and breakfast, can I just take the gojek to Jakarta Kota and book a train, or is private car much better? Note that I think I’d be too early if I book a car instead (also more expensive) and I also want to have the “local experience”

Any advice will be very appreciated. Thank you!

Coming to Jakarta for remote work and looking for a short-term rental for one month, from mid-May to mid-June.

  • Type: Studio or one-bedroom apartment in a good-quality building with a decent gym
  • Location: Within walking distance of a good gym, street food, restaurants, coffee shops and good quality mall
  • Optional: I would love to join casual badminton games, so having a badminton court within walking distance would be great
  • Budget: IDR 10–25 million (flexible)

Suggested options from Claude/ChatGPT include:

  • Citadines Sudirman Jakarta
  • The Mansion at Kemang
  • District 8 Jakarta
  • The Capital Residence
  • Kemang Village

I would highly appreciate any recommendations or advice
