2 years misdiagnosed, awful foot pain. Doctors now suspect rare neuropathy, not plantar fasciitis as they did

Hi! I’m a high-level inline hockey player and I’ve had severe sole, toe, and heel pain for almost 2 years. It started only while skating, but progressed to daily burning pain, numbness, tingling, and pain even at rest.

For 2 years I was treated for plantar fasciitis with no improvement. A new orthopedist recently said it likely isn’t plantar fasciitis and suspected neuropathy, so I was referred to neurology. I had an MRI with contrast and ultrasound for this neurologist and was prescribed Pregabalin 150 mg/day, amitriptyline (Anapsique 12.5 mg), and Thioctaid 1 a day.

I haven’t been able to train or skate for 3–5 months because of the pain. The MRI showed no obvious nerve compression or major nerve branch damage, but also no clear cause for the neuropathic pain, just a slight irritation in the tibial nerve region.

My neurologist now suspects a possible rare genetic neuropathic disease (can’t tell which one and don’t have information bout my family, I’m adopted), and mentioned that if medications help, I may return to training, but a biopsy could also be needed to identify the cause.

Today Sunday 10th may I’ve reached 1 week on this medications doses, feeling a little improvement but still not feeling ready to skate and play.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Especially skaters/hockey players with neuropathy-like foot pain? Did medications help enough to return to sport?

What axels will these require?

Hi!

Just bought these, some Labeda Gripper wheels and some laces. I think its just axles left? I'm pretty confused by the axle sizes.

I've tried googling for Proto VI axles but I'm a bit lost in the sauce. Do I need Hi-Lo ones?

Once I saw that pure hockey had these stock, It was a no brainer then have heard nothing but good things on the Konixx chassis and finding wheels to match was the icing on top.

Getting back into it

I used to play over 15 years ago and now I’m getting back into some men’s league but obviously I need all new gear. Anyone have any recommendations for stuff that won’t break the bank?

Anybody Try The Chirp Street Twig Yet?

https://chirpsticks.com/products/best-street-hockey-stick-street-twig

Their website has fooled the google algorithm to pop up as the #1 Street Hockey Stick, by making their own list and ranking themselves as #1 (obviously).

There is little to no available reviews on these things but the specs are intriguing to say the least --->

- Only weights 400 grams (most street sticks are 550g-600g+

-Once the ABS blade is worn down, you can replace the blade like a 2-piece

- You get one free stick if you add that package on

What do we think?

Jmacks_skates on IG absolutely killed this ice to roller conversion. The powder coated white chassis looks sick and the flake in it is unreal🔥

Best Wheels in the business Right now?

Looking to get some new wheels, have been consistent with using Rink Rat Tricksters but open to trying new wheels. What’s the go to wheels now? I am using 72 and 76 size and in the tricksters I was using XXX grip.

So to be fair, my old business partner and I first created prototypes for these almost 15 years ago. They needed some adjustments and I finally got some samples produced. Better late than never!

What are those bearings? Anyone knows?

Hey I bought the Mission Inhaler FS1 (the gold ones) and they came with bearings. This ice hockey off season I play on different surfaces and need to switch wheels. I don't want to switch bearings from one wheel to the other. What is the name of the bearings? I can only read HI-LO and Swiss but what mode,l version, ABEC?

Can anyone help me

I’m extremely new to being a goalie and hockey in genera. I play foward on ice but for inline I’d been enjoying being a goalie even tho I suck. But I notice in a lot of videos I’ve watched that goalies are missing 2nd to rear wheel. As seen as in photo. What’s up with that? My goalie skates have 5 and I want to do whatever I can to improve. Is there some kinda advantage and disadvantage to it?

And I know realistically I should get good at being a regular player before I hop into goalie stuff however my friend had extra gear and let me use his stuff during our pickups. Now I have my own gear and am hooked.

Hey guys,

I need a new hobbie.

So I've signed up to a Saturday roller hockey club. I need some inlines but since I'm a beginner I wanted to know what some semi-decent skates would be for under 100.

I can't commit to expensive skates for a taster session, but want to not be hampered and thought you guys would know best.

I'm considering these ones?

https://alkalihockey.com/products/alkali-cele-iii-senior-inline-hockey-skates?variant=42370499903665
But would love to hear other ideas.

Sorry for generic question. Thanks!

Edit: I want to INB4 people saying that this price range I will not get anything good. I am well aware. I just want something useable because I'm not about to drop £150 on something I haven't even tried yet.

How many holes are too many holes?

Considering swapping a different chassis onto an existing pair of boots. My concern is they were originally ice boots that has Marsblade R1 installed and now I'd want to install a Rink Rat chassis so that'd be 3 sets of holes. I've had countless chassis and holders swapped onto roller/ice boots without issue but have only ever had to drill 1 set of new holes, not 2.

Boots can't be found anymore so simply buying another pair for the conversion isn't an option. How much of a concern is there for drilling another set of holes? If filling existing holes is a recommendation, what would you use to do that and would there still be durability concerns to the outsole?

Alkali Cele Air…. They fit for finger length, but they seem huge around my wrist. Is this the way they’re supposed to fit?

New Wheels

Just wanted to show these off - After 2 longs months and a garbage conversion job at my local shop, I finally got a pair converted well. If you need a conversion and don't have a trusted shop, Steve at The Sharp Shack is your guy.

I currently wear a ccm cup compression short as of now with no hip/ass protection. And lets just say the few times ive fallen during games ive felt it the next day. What is everyone running these days. I prefer protection but nothing stupidly bulky. Also dont wanna look dusty out there either lmao.

I'm 45 getting back into skating after 30ish years away. I was extremely surprised to see how much the industry had changed, and not for the better. There was very little in the way of choices and to make things worse, apparently there's only a couple companies actually manufacturing, the rest are just renames/rebranding? I didn't see much of anything designed for "freestyle" like we used to use on half pipes. I did see that 5 wheel speed skates have been replaced by 3 wheel? Extremely counterintuitive! A friend used to play semi-pro ice hockey and talked me into hockey skates (Mission Inhaler) instead.

I was mostly looking for the exercise aspect (I'm too old for half pipes and grinding rails, lol) so I was open to the idea of casual roller hockey (a close by public park has a ring), vs cruising around on speed skates. But summer is too hot for outdoor and there's only a wood floor indoor skating rink and ice rinks in my area.

Would i be better served changing my stock Mission wheels/bearings, for indoor wood floors or buying something in the 3 wheel speed skate territory?

Secondly, these hockey skates lace bite me really bad, I'm a size 13-14 shoe usually, but I have really skinny feet, so I have to pull the laces really tight or my feet just "float" badly with no support. I really struggle to find anything that fits well like the old school rachet buckles of my childhood.
