Hertz cancelled my reservation twice in 24 hours, then hung up on me 6 times when I called back

I reserved a car through Hertz a few days ago. The day before pickup, the original location called and said they were overbooked and couldn't honor it.

I called Hertz customer service. They apologized and rebooked me at a different location (Kennesaw, GA) for 9 AM the next morning. Confirmation in hand, everything looked fine.

This morning at 9:15, while I was literally on the road to pick up the car (35 min drive because they booked different location), the Kennesaw location called me. Same story — "we can't honor your reservation, we don't have a car for you." I told the agent I needed a car today, which is why I reserved one in the first place. His response: "We don't have a car for you" — and he hung up on me.

I called back. Hung up on. Called again. Hung up on. Six times in a row. Every single call ended with them hanging up the moment they realized it was me.

So now I have no car, no help, and a Hertz location that apparently thinks hanging up on customers is acceptable.

Had to scramble to find a car, luckily competitor had a car, but has anyone dealt with this and actually gotten Hertz corporate to do something?

And Oh by the way...

Its for maintenance.

This email came to me LAST NIGHT.

NO WARNING.

AT ALL.

All of Hertz emails are so hostile worded.

Some other poster on reddit on another thread said renting from Hertz is like walking on egg shells.

And I am living in a hotel. I use the vehicle to make my daily room fee.

Just wow!

Of course today is Sunday. There's no one to speak to.

AAA Hertz Discount Question

Hi everyone, I'm a Singaporean uni student (22 y/o) that's looking to travel to the US.

I recently signed up with the Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS) because I found out that members get discounted car rental rates from companies like Hertz, which allows me to book a car in the US. However, I later found out that AAA members get the same discount from Hertz plus a waiver of the young driver fee, which makes a big difference for me.

Technically speaking, I should have access to this American Hertz discount because AAS and AAA have a reciprocal deal. But when I tried to give Hertz a call, they didn't allow me to make a car reservation, because they said I did not have an AAA member number. I tried to give them my AAS member number and explain we have a reciprocal deal, but it was not accepted.

Is there any way to solve this? Will I have to physically walk into the rental shop when I'm in the US and show them my card that has the AAA Discounts and Rewards logo on it? I would prefer to reserve the car in advance if possible.

Thank you for your help

Is AAA Worth It Just for One Hertz Rental?

Would anyone be willing to add me under their AAA membership?😅

I only need it for one Hertz rental to waive the young driver fee. I’d obviously pay my part if needed. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this before or knows if it works.

Beware: Hertz at MCO will accuse you of damaging the car

Just dropped off a car at the Orlando airport Hertz operation after several uneventful days of using the car on a work trip in a quiet area of Orlando.

Imagine my surprise when I got this email titled. “Vehicle incident report” that said “you damaged the license plate, the odometer, the front and the back of the car”.

I had to read it a couple of times because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I have been a customer of Hertz for 15 years with all of my work travel (a “Gold member, as they call it) and have never had a problem.

The most bizarre part is that… the photos they provided don’t show ANY damage to the car. The front of the car shows a tiny area where a piece of the plastic is coming off the the front bumper and someone added some arrows to the photos to highlight this.

Is this a joke. hertz?

Absolutely nothing happened to the car when I was using it and absolutely nothing was wrong with it when I turned it in at the airport. The person that checked me out confirmed the fuel, the total and sent me on my way.

Are you kidding me?

Now they are threatening to “charge” me for the so-called “damage”.

In addition to numerous reports of similar false accusations against other customers, I read Hertz is using some kind of “AI tool” to “detect damage”.

You mean the AI tool is being used to “detect damage” or - “manufacture damage” that IS NOT THERE.

Scam scam scam!

Hertz you should be ashamed. Others need to be aware - especially at the Orlando airport.

Vegas rental - how to make it go smoothly

I've read some negative experiences about Hertz in Vegas. I'm a Gold+ member but I don't really know anything about the membership. Anyway, my rental is for 10 days in June. We are picking up at Vegas airport and dropping off in Phoenix. I rented a Jeep. It says 4 or 2 door, does Hertz really rent 2 doors? That won't work for my family so if we get there and it's a 2 door I'll have to switch vehicles.

Is there anything else I should do to make this rental go smoothly? I prepaid for fuel, signed up for Gold+.

I could switch companies, but not sure if it's worth it. We really want the Jeep rental and are paying premium for it. Could switch companies and get an SUV, but we really want the Jeep.

I didn't prepay for the car.

These days, I get a scolding by Hertz every time I refuse their insurance, and it seems like they’re now fine with full-on insulting me as well, i.e. telling me I don't understand anything about insurance or the policies I purchased outside of Hertz. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have a reservation through Hertz for a Small SUV at JFK for one week, and the total came out to about $190.

I didn’t book it myself — a friend used my account and just said “trust me,” but wouldn’t explain what he did.

At first I thought this might be a mistake or pricing glitch because it’s way cheaper than anything I’ve seen. But I actually went to the airport, picked up the car, and everything went through with no issues — no questions, no price change.

Now I’m even more curious what could cause a price like this.

For people familiar with Hertz pricing:

  • Could this be some kind of regional pricing or VPN trick?
  • Certain discount/corporate codes?
  • Or do glitches like this actually happen and get honored?

Would love to understand what might have happened here. Thanks!

I had a car rented through my work for a travel assignment with full coverage insurance. It was invoked in a minor fender bender and they are basically giving me a charge for the days the car wasn’t in service and for repairing the minor bump.

The phone number associated with this was 844-969-8951. This is a number I have seen associated with a similar post on Reddit about fraud.

What’s the point of getting full coverage insurance when I didn’t hit the other car ? Is this even legitimate ? My employer doesn’t know what to do about this case because normally they rent through enterprise but their entire compact car fleet was out of service and I had to go over to hertz.

How is this possible ?

Can me as a foreigner combine Costco Travel and AAA for a Hertz rental under 25?

Hi everyone , I’m 22 years old from Taiwan and trying to rent a car in LA as cheaply as possible for 30 days road trip without messing anything up.

I’m thinking about booking through Costco Travel because the price is better and it looks like I can avoid the additional driver fee.

At the same time, I’m also wondering if I can use AAA to waive the young renter fee with Hertz.

My situation is a little specific:

•My friend in the U.S. has a Costco membership and can help make the booking.

•I have a Taiwan Costco membership card.

I’m planning to rent from an off-airport Hertz location, not at LAX.

•I may only have a digital AAA card at pickup.

So I wanted to ask:

•Will there be any issue if the booking was made using my friend’s U.S. Costco account but I show my Taiwan Costco card at pickup?

•Will they accept a digital AAA card?

•Can Costco Travel and AAA benefits be combined on the same Hertz reservation?

•Will Hertz still waive the under-25 fee if the booking was made through Costco instead of directly through AAA/Hertz?

If anyone has done this before, I’d really appreciate the help😁

I scrapped the back right wheel on the curb and some of the rim got damaged. How do I handle this? I didn’t buy hertz loss damage waiver and have my own car insurance. And I paid with a credit card that has secondary insurance.

LAX Minivan

I will landing at LAX and renting a 7 seat minivan later this month, already reserved. I saw a video on the new rental terminal, looks painless.

How is the recall on minivans effecting availability. Do they have hybrid 7 passenger minivans?

What type of Jeep Wranglers are available at DEN?

The posts I’ve seen here are about a year old so looking to get fresh intel. This will be the first time I am renting a “guaranteed vehicle” so curious. I usually book manager’s special or cheapest for my other solo trips and pick a Corolla or Camry (though once I was assigned a Ford Explorer when I chose Small SUV).

I booked through my credit card portal. and need to change the drop-off date. I can see the reservation on Hertz portal too. Do I need to cancel and rebook? I called my credit card travel service and they said they can cancel but can't modify and told me to call Hertz.

Hertz wont let me talk to an actual human being. It's AI agent will not route me to a human (very frustrating!)

Canceling is an option - but the per day price went up since I booked and I'd be paying the same $ in total even though i'd be using for fewer days (5 instead of 7).

Would they charge for the full 7 days if I don't do anything and just drop off after 5 days? Whats the best approach? TIA.

I’ll share my experience, I’m not sure that I would call it a “bad” one by any means, but I believe this page would appreciate a decent experience with hertz due to the many complaints that there are.

I rented a jeep for 3 weeks out of Vegas. We landed early and I said what the hell, lets see if i get the car early too. So we went upstairs to the Gold area, and I asked if I could check the car out early. It was about 12 hours early. She did some button pushing on the computer and I received my exact car I rented 12 hours early with no extra fees.

The car ran great for all 3 weeks, but was low on oil by the end. No worries, I just figured they would’ve made sure I had enough for 3 weeks.

We return the car with a full tank of gas, no damage, we vacuumed and washed the car aswell. I get an email stating I owe 23 dollars for fuel. Small charge, but I’m not paying it. I fueled the tank with 5 dollar a gallon gas, I’m not paying you even more money. I disputed the charge and was immediately refunded. They stated it was a clerical error on their part and apologized. They couldn’t explain why or how it happened.

That was my experience with Hertz in Las Vegas, and compared to some of these other posts and reviews I’d say it was a good one. Is this uncommon, or are people just really dramatic about their experiences?

I booked a Hertz rental in the UK using Chase to get the eight points.

When I checked my invoice I found I had been charged 171 pounds ($230) for the second driver. When I queried it I was told because I booked through a travel agent. I did not get the Gold+ benefits like free second driver and upgrades.

I'm going to cancel my future rentals and rebook them directly with Hertz.

So not too long ago I rented a car and managed to get a noticeable scuff scrape near the headlight. I was renting from an airport with the scanners so I figured I’d get an email detailing the charges. Now an important note to add to the story is that I rented the car for a week because I had to travel to see my dying grandfather. Well, he passed and so I was expected to come back the next week, requiring me to rent once again. Instead of extending my rental, I opted to just close that contract and open another for a much lower cost. The airport was pretty sold out so I asked if I could just keep my same car and they said that was fine. After I closed the first contract, I got an email saying no new damage was found on the car. I’ve now received another email for the second contract say that once again, no new damage was found on the car.

On one hand, I would love to have gotten away with this. However, I’ve read enough horror stories on here to know that they will track you down months/years later for damage and by then credit card companies won’t cover it.

Would it be in my best interest to come out and say something?
