Coin Purse
This is my first post here, I recently just got back into embroidery and I decided to challenge myself and make a coin purse. There are flaws as it’s my first time making something like this but I wondered if anyone sells something similar to what I made? I was thinking about selling them once I practice a bit more but I’m not sure what to price them at. It took a while to make because it’s hand sewn obviously so does that factor into the price? I’ve included photos, any tips on how to make it better would be great too. Thank you.
I made my 1st leather thimble!
It was easier than expected and it fits me perfectly ! I seem to be allergic to most of the metal ones so this is perfect for me.
The process was easier than my sashiko thimble and I'm happy with the result :D
I hate machine sewing with passion
Machine sewing is fast but it doesn’t spark Joy for me. 😩 I love handsewing for many reasons.
Can I use a non-spandex 2 way stretch knit with a woven intended pattern?
Hi guys!
I'm trying a new pattern, and it's my first intended for woven fabrics. I like to try new patterns with fabric I don't really care about and that I got for free, and so I cut this thin polyester someone gave me for the pattern, but the fabric is so old it is litterally falling apart. I loose a milimeter off the cut sections every time the fabric moves or is articulated. I've thought about stabilizing it with a lighter (thoughts?) but the fabric is super old and may just be expired.
If this fabric doesn't work out, the only other free fabric I have is a non-spandex minimal stretch woven fabric that is a touch on the thicker side (I could use it for a dress, t-shirt, or joggers kind of weight).
I know woven fabrics won't work for a patter that assumes stretch, is the opposite also true? I kinda think it could work, but I'm at the point in my sewing journey that I know enough to be dangerous but not so much that I don't make mistakes....
Any and all advice with either issue is greatly appreciated! Thank you all for being my community and answering my questions, no one else in my life sews, so I'm all alone out here.
My beloved son Eggbert and I are gonna take over the world
I’ve been wanting to make one for months. I bought an Alaskan king size bedsheet at a thrift store for $2.5
So happy with how it turned out.
I am wondering if the work done on my suit was done by hand or machine. Thank you!
I told my husband and kids that a couple of you recognized the fabric(target bedsheet) so I’m super nervous to wear this outside of the house-hubby said I look stunning and that I’m talented. I guess with that boost in confidence I shall be wearing this set for our anniversary dinner in 2 weeks🤪
Honestly it’s my first time altering clothing at all. These jeans were perfect other than the waist so I skipped through one website and decided to go for it. I think it’s pretty neat and Invisible considering, and I’m excited to finally wear these without needing a belt.
Was also my first time using an iron, surprised at how well the denim flattened.
Irish Chain Quilt Hand Piecing Journey
Update #2: I have poked my fingers countless times now. It’s a slow process to hand stitch each piece but it’s a bit faster than I originally expected. I’m finding my points are more accurate than when I chain piece on the machine. It’s an incredibly enjoyable process. Lots of seam marking and pinning but they’re necessary steps. I have almost 14 of 98-something blocks sewn so far.
Here are a bunch of progress photos.
I still need to get better at it, but I'm also happy I could make it.
Stepdad gave me these since they ripped at the back pocket and he didn’t want them repaired. Made a bag liner with the ‘torso’ portion of them. Probably going to use the ‘legs’ to add to another pair of jeans I have.
Hi everyone! I'm doing a lot of sewing (about one garment per month hand stiched) and I don't have any scissors except my fabric shears. I only have space for one smaller pair of scissors and I'm wondering which are more versitile: 4 inch embroidery scissors or thread snips.
I've heard you can use thread snips in leu of a seam ripper, is that true? Can you do the same with embroidery scissors? If you had to choose one, which would you choose and why?
If it helps any, hubby has offered one or the other from Ernest Write as a mother's day gift (and a bifl pair of scissors would be great).
Thank you in advance for all your thoughts and suggestions!
Im trying to sew a doll, I've been practicing sewing the head but it always comes out like this. I assumed it was due to uneven stitches or stitches being too tight so I've trying to be mindful of that but it still comes out like that. What am I doing wrong? Im using cotton fabric and 3 strand embroidery thread. Is there a way to avoid it? I've sewn the head 3 times and they all look like that so I know im doing something wrong.
1st Update: I have decided to torture myself or indulge myself (I’ll decide at the end which one I’ve accomplished) and hand sew an Irish chain quilt for our bed. The plan is it will end up being 78”x90” with 6”x6” finished units. I am only going to use 100% cotton materials. The fabric I am using is thrifted from Ollie’s (both quilting weight cotton and a 100% cotton flannel queen bed sheet set for the backing) and a daily-deal from MSQC of 108” 3yd cut. The batting is from one of the three giant rolls I bought from Joann’s over a year and a half ago when they were on sale for $80-something. I have cut a few strips and pinned one pair out so far. Planning to start with a backstitch for a reinforced seam and this could very well be the last update if I end up absolutely miserable. I’ll try and stay optimistic. Wish me luck and I’ll provide an update when I’ve made some progress!
Hi! I know the 'interlock' term technically doesn't exist, but I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how to do the stitch shown in this video for raw edges. I'm a complete beginner, and I know there are probably better stitches for raw edges, but I found this embroidery-looking one and I just can't get it out of my head.
The video only shows one side of the stitch, so if anyone could explain how the edge side is done and maybe how it's started, I'd really appreciate the help! Thank you.
I have finally reached the point of my skirt where I can offer an update on my chosen technique for sewing the waistband on. I tried my first concept of an embroidery hoop and could not get enough tension to accomplish the task. I then tried fitting the skirt (that had the elastic waist pinned evenly around it) around a lap cushion that happened to be the right size to comfortably stretch the waistband to the skirt's measurements. I pinned it to the cushion and it provided more than enough tension to easily stitch with the skirt in my lap! I managed to do a full back stitch around a 50" waist band in a few hours. There are some fit issues (waist still to loose to fit) and I am needing the proper thread color, but I will be able to post the completed project soon!
I inherited this very large bedspread-blanket-coverlet and hope someone can tell me where it might be from. My friend, who owned it, was Filipino but also traveled a lot to Asia—Thailand, Japan—and lived in Hawaii. It’s hand stitched.
