Comparing Ned Stark to Viserys Is Actually Making Viserys Look Worse

Someone tried to Compare this two to prove he was a good father,

Providing the actual book evidence we have

Viserys, causes his son to loose a eye

And two he married his son to his daughter.

And the only ‘positive’ thing we have of Him and his sons is Jaecerys and Daeron sharing a wet niece and even that had to including Jaecerys, rhaenyra son.

Apparently Because Westeros fathers are ‘cold’ they don’t ever have an interaction with their sons like Visarys did.

I know it’s hard for some people to use context clues, but if the only thing shown is negative and the only ‘positive’ interaction involved his favorite daughters child, then it’s not unreasonable to say viserys didn’t give a shit about them.

Is this is how all Westeros fathers treat second sons?because at-least regular second sons get married already, Aemond did not not.

I mean can somone provide me with some Quotes from fire and blood where viserys sits down and gives his sons advice, Because I can provide a bunch of those even to Arya.

"Let me tell you something about wolves, child. When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives**.** Summer is the time for squabbles. In winter, we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths. So if you must hate, Arya, hate those who would truly do us harm. Septa Mordane is a good woman, and Sansa … Sansa is your sister. You may be as different as the sun and the moon, but the same blood flows through both your hearts. You need her, as she needs you … and I need both of you, gods help me

“So deep in thought was he that he never heard the rest of the party until his father moved up to ride beside him. "Are you well, Bran?" he asked, not unkindly.

"Yes, Father," Bran told him. He looked up. Wrapped in his furs and leathers, mounted on his great warhorse, his lord father loomed over him like a giant. "Robb says the man died bravely, but Jon says he was afraid."

"What do you think?" his father asked.

Bran thought about it. "Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?"

"That is the only time a man can be brave," his father told him

Now Ned was being ruefu and sarcastic. When Ned says, “You are not my son, you’re a squirrel,” it’s not a comparison to anything it’s a joke. He’s teasing Bran because Bran can’t stop climbing. Squirrels climb. That’s the whole point. It’s light, affectionate, and shows Ned actually knows his kid.

And that’s the difference Ned consistently acts like a father. He gives Bran advice, teaches him responsibility, and takes the time to guide him.

You can’t really say the same for Viserys He might claim to care, but there’s barely any real guidance or effort shown, especially with his kids by Alicent. Ned shows his love through action. Viserys mostly just… doesn’t.

“Aerea should’ve ruled, not Jaehaerys, Rhaenys should’ve been the heir, not Baelon, Daena should’ve ruled, not Viserys II” Why? Why do ppl want a child/young girl to take over, when there's a more experienced, adult option whose reign wouldn't cause division? Why isn't the realm the priority?

I can excuse Rhaenys, but it’s impossible to understand how anyone could think it’s a better option to put a mentally unwell child like Aerea on the throne over Jaehaerys right after a catastrophe like Maegor or Daena who just got out of tower imprisonment, has zero experience, and has a huge bastard issue to rule instead of Viserys II, who had already been running the kingdom for years during the reigns of Aegon III, Daeron I, and Baelor I?

Imo there is an interesting difference between the majorities of the teams: While TG often approaches the conflict through a lens of situational logic/politics, TB's loyalty is heavily emotional rooted and passionate. TB’s are usually “fans” while TG’s are usually “analysts”

Naturally, there are exceptions, but I’m speaking in general terms.

The posts in TB sub, you’ll see posts about headcanons, the dynamics between characters, reflecting a deep personal attachment and admiration, way more often. On the other hand, TG discussions usually tend to be more about focusing on the events, the plot, strategic “what if” scenarios, and long-form debates.

Who here really thinks they would have killed Rhaenyra’s siblings if she ascended peacefully?

I see this debate constantly pop up. I dont know why anyone thinks there is evidence they would have killed Rhaenyra’s siblings. People seem to forget that the most common way to pacify another family is to take hostages. I personally think Jaehaerys would become a ward and end up as Daemons squire or Rhaenyra’s cupbearer, much like Otto suggested for Rhaenyras sons once the opportunity to kill them had passed.

Rhaenyra was watered down and made much softer than the books and Daemon for all his faults wouldnt want to be thought of as a kinslayer without there being any provocation. He had a long time to kill Alicents children if he really intended to, and never did. Personally I dont think he viewed any of them as a threat aside from Aemond, and thats only because he had Vhagar.

I think people forget Theon Greyjoy and how common it was to subdue your rivals through marriage, taking hostages, etc. The jump to “Daemon kill everyone” is kind of wild to me honestly. Im not for either faction but this debate always puzzles me when it pops up because there are so many options aside from “kill everyone”.

Idk do you think Rhaenyra and Daemon take hostages or do you really think they gank everyone even if she ascended peacefully, even though they would truly be looked at as worse than Maegor?

Are the TWOW and ADOS books really out there

I am genuinely concerned now that the books (winds of winter and a dream of spring) will be released in my lifetime

Anyone here had read Fire and Blood BEFORE House of the Dragon came out? If so, what was your view on the story?

Some people in TB complain that the show's main problem is that it made the Greens "too sympathetic" and the Blacks "not sympathetic enough", tried to "both sides" everything, and that if not for that, everyone would be Team Black. (I won't even go into detail about the typical "TG is a bunch of incels and MAGAs" bullshit)

Needless to say, I don't agree at all, the show's problems run deeper than that and the Greens's adaptational sympathy was mostly at the expense of OTHER Greens (although I agree the Blacks aren't exactly favoured either).

But leaving that aside, I'd like to know how many of you here were book readers from before the show first aired. I had only read the main 5 ASOIAF books and the Dunk and Egg stories before I watched HOTD, and I only read F&B after watching S1, so I'd like you to tell me how did you personally view the story and how did you notice people saw the story in general.

Does anyone else find this funny in a really sad way?

With the decay/greying of Alicent's storyline/arc/personality by C&H, there's also a clear (albeit slow) gradual decrease in the quality of how she dresses/presents herself in regards to her closet and her hair and makeup.

Season 2 literally looks like Olivia did her own hair and make-up- not having to spend hours, or even any time, in the hair/make-up department to get into character like everyone else did.

Either that or they saw how fabulous Olivia was looking from episodes 6-10 and didn't want her outshining Emma on the aesthetic side of things/wanted Emma to look/dress better than her in season 2.

I wish Aegon would say this to her face

One of the most powerful scenes from Euphoria, and I wish they could make a similar scene in the show with Aegon yelling at Alicent for all her hypocrisy and for betraying them and "parlaying her freedom with her son's head".

It’s unbelievable that the person who decided to fuck anatomy so dirty spent years working on House MD. The irony.

I still can’t get over this. Complete destruction of the genitals without immediate vessel ligation equals massive blood loss and near-instant infection. Even if by some miracle he didn’t bleed out on the spot, a day without treatment is practically guaranteed sepsis. The distance between RR and KL is around ~300 miles. Based on that, and their leisurely pace, this bro spent 9-12 days in a closed box in burnt armor, with his severe burns, many broken bones, an unreduced bone sticking out of his leg, and "more injuries within". And as if that wasn’t enough, you’re adding BURST COCK on top of it? You don’t need to be a medic to understand that surviving this is impossible, how do you not get that after working for years on a medical show? And for what? I genuinely don’t understand what’s driving these writing decisions of hers - incompetence or she knows it’s absurd, but her misandry and the urge to humiliate the characters she hates just override all.

And Idk why it never occurred to them to even include the first aid scene at RR if it was even necessary so any of this would make a shred of sense. Apparently nothing in Westeros is capable of healing anything except Orwyle’s miracle salad.

The show runners treatment of Alicent is genuinely horrendous. They don’t even consider her a victim of something they invented for HOTD.

They aged Alicent down to fifteen years old and had her forcibly marry a forty year old ROTTING Viserys. By the time she’s seventeen, she already has two babies and is probably pregnant with the third.

In episode five they show an explicit scene of her getting repeatedly humped by his decaying body while looking dead in the eyes. After this scene, she’s shown to be self harming by picking at her cuticles until they bleed. And yet, for some reason, this doesn’t count as sexual abuse on screen? Seriously, this is a whole rape scene and yet the showrunners completely ignore it.

What makes it even worse is that they only consider Dyanna to be the only rape victim in the show. They genuinely don’t consider Alicent to be a victim.

>And yet Hess made things clear: **”I'd like to clarify that we do not depict sexual violence in the show,"** she told Vanity Fair. **”We handle one instance off-screen, and instead show the aftermath and impact on the victim and the mother of the perpetrator."**
